00:00I think reporting is getting harder and harder to do.
00:02First off, one more thing about reporting,
00:05AI can't do what I'm talking about.
00:08Even though I think AI is going to be an important part of our future,
00:11AI cannot go out into the streets and actually talk to people.
00:16That's the one thing we really have to hold on to.
00:19My biggest concern about AI is an economic concern.
00:23All that information I just described that we work so hard to get,
00:26covering wars, writing important stories, doing investigative stories,
00:30banging on doors, that AI companies will just collect all that stuff up
00:36without any benefit to us,
00:39which I don't think is fair when we're spending tens of millions of dollars to cover that.
00:43That's my biggest concern.
00:45All that said, I think in terms of AI in journalism,
00:51I think we should find ways to embrace it.
00:53The North Star for journalism should be to keep
00:57as many reporters on the ground as possible.
01:01And if you have a small newsroom,
01:04and AI can do some things for you,
01:07even some editing,
01:09so that you can keep people on the ground,
01:12I think you've got to consider that.
01:14So my view is we have got to say,
01:18okay, this thing is coming.
01:19We have two choices.
01:22We can do what we did last time,
01:25which is like hide our faces.
01:28Or we can say,
01:29okay, let's see if there's a way for this to help us.
01:32And we'll resist the things that will hurt us,
01:35but we're going to acknowledge that some of it will help us.
01:37And we'll talk to you next time.
