Iran declares victory and Israel holds its ground as US framework deal faces first test

Tehran declared the US "was forced to sign" a surrender while Iran's military said enemies had "no option but to accept defeat," as Israel said IDF forces would remain in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza "for an unlimited period".

00:00After 108 days of war with Iran, President Donald Trump has declared that a peace deal has been reached.
00:07Clearly in a happy mood, following his 80th birthday celebrations over the weekend,
00:12he took to his Truth Social site and he wrote,
00:16The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all.
00:21I hereby fully authorise the tour-free opening of the Strait of Ormuz.
00:27Ships of the world, start your engines, let the oil flow.
00:32Now, Tehran has since responded.
00:34They've confirmed that the text of the Memorandum of Understanding, that's what it is still for now, an MOU,
00:41they've said that it will be agreed upon and signed in Switzerland on Friday.
00:47And that, of course, leaves the door open for 60 days of negotiations.
00:51They've said that is pending the verification of U.S. commitments and the removal.
00:56and lifting of that U.S. blockade in the Strait of Ormuz.
01:01Now, Pakistan and Qatar were heavily involved in these negotiations,
01:06and it's hoped that this does leave a lasting framework for peace right across the Middle East.
