00:00Being that this is an adaptation of a super popular book, Carly Fortunes, Every Summer After, did you feel any
00:07pressure to live up to certain expectations for your characters?
00:11You want to do right by the book. Obviously, there's a built in fan base and, you know, they're all
00:16expecting a certain thing, you know, and I feel like, you know, as an actor, yes, you're making something for
00:22yourself because this is the craft that we chose and we love it so much.
00:26And when there's a book attached, it's like, you're also, you're making it for them. You're making it for the
00:29people that are invested in this. And yeah, just hoping that they, that they love it.
00:35Yeah. And I think there's a, you know, it's a responsibility to the, to the fan base, you know, because
00:41we wouldn't be here without this fan base that, you know, has essentially brought us to this point at being
00:49able to, you know, bring it to life.
00:53Of course there's pressure. I mean, we're human, you know, you want to, you don't want to have bad reviews
00:58and then be like, that's not who I thought.
01:01But, you know, there's a sense of when you, you do your research, you do as much as you can.
01:06And then like, for me personally, I just, I leave it on the day, you know, and, and at the
01:12end of the day, it is an adaptation.
01:14And it kind of gives us that, that freedom to kind of bring our idea of who this character is
01:22to life, because that's also how everyone else feels too. I feel like like whenever you read a book, everyone
01:28feels differently about the characters and pictures them differently.
01:31So I think that's like a beauty of an adaptation, but yes, of course there's, there's pressure, but it's also
01:36good pressure. It's a challenge and it's also a, a good responsibility. Like you feel, I feel honored to, you
01:44know, be trusted to hopefully bring it to life.
01:50Are there certain scenes that came directly from the book that you feel like fans are going to be the
01:55most excited to see or what scene was your favorite to kind of bring to life from the book?
01:59Yeah. I mean, I wasn't in this scene, obviously, but the anatomy scene is something that everyone is talking about.
02:05And I think people are really going to love, you know, what they did.
02:08I think just the childhood friendship with Delilah and Percy, I think that just in general was a really fun
02:16thing to, to dive into because you get to kind of see who they were when they were kids, you
02:24know, and, and why they are where they are now.
02:27How many conversations did you have with Carly Fortune to kind of form your characters for this series?
02:33Yeah. I mean, Carly really trusted Amy with her baby. And so I think, you know, Carly and Amy had,
02:41you know, discussions at length and, and, and then Amy in turn had discussions with us.
02:46Um, so in a way we heard from Carly, but really it was, you know, Amy and her adaptation of
02:53the book.
02:54And you saying, you know, she trusted Amy with her baby is such a, it's a beautiful way to put
02:59it because also what a, what an amazing human in general to be like, all right, here, take the reins.
03:08Yeah. It's scary. It must be right. Like I would be like, like, so controlling over it.
03:16She wasn't a helicopter mom.
03:17No, but she was so, and so sweet and so supportive.
03:20And, and I mean, I really appreciate that about her.
03:26I had a lot of conversations with Amy because I was, I was petrified going in because Delilah is such
03:33a complex character.
03:36She's kind of the villain in a way, but then you also start to find out that she's, why she
03:42is the way she is.
03:43And eventually, hopefully she is a little bit likable.
03:48Um, so I, I, I discussed with Amy a lot of like how we could kind of navigate that and
03:54hopefully get that across.
03:57I know that there's, um, the follow-up book, One Golden Summer, but do you see any potential, you know,
04:04brewing storylines for your characters?
04:06It's interesting because I, I mean, towards the end, Delilah is finally kind of finding herself and finally kind of
04:18putting herself first and like allowing herself to be vulnerable.
04:24Um, I would love to see that journey.
04:26I mean, whatever that means, you know, because like whenever people are finally accepting themselves and dealing with their past
04:34traumas, anything can happen.
04:36So I don't know.
04:37I don't have anything specific, but I really am excited to see kind of like her journey and where that
04:43would take her.
04:44What about you?
04:44I'm excited for Charlie to build that tree house.
04:48Hey, hey, hey, definitely.
04:51I love that.
04:52Charlie.
04:53Charlie's tree house.
04:54Charlie gets good with tools.
04:56And Michael, um, I also saw an interview with, um, Carly Fortune talking about the chemistry reads that took place,
05:04um, in the midst of casting and that you had one with Matt, um, to, for your characters of Charlie
05:11and Sam.
05:12Can you take me through what was that?
05:13That was like.
05:14Yeah, everything happened really quickly from the, you know, that, that first audition to then, you know, you move on
05:20to doing it with the, the casting director.
05:22And then you move on to the chemistry with Matt, uh, Matt had already been cast as Sam and they
05:28were looking for their Charlie.
05:29And so, you know, I hop on and, and Amy and the other producers like, okay, you guys are going
05:33to do a 10 minute kind of, you know, meet and greet, just, you know, get to know each other,
05:37get acquainted.
05:38We're going to turn our cameras off, not listen.
05:40And, you know, they probably were obviously cause it's their job and, and, um, and so then, yeah, we, you
05:47know, we didn't talk about the script at all.
05:48We didn't talk about our characters at all.
05:50We really just connected as friends and we became best friends in that chemistry.
05:53We were talking about golf and sports.
05:55And, you know, I said to him, you know, no matter what happens, if I get Charlie or not, like,
05:59I'll see you on the golf course.
