00:03So we got a call for a Jeep that's having a bad day out here on the north side of
00:07Little Creek
00:08Mesa. So we're gonna head out here see if we can get them out. We have the ever lovely Jamie
00:12with
00:12the weather. It's like 90 something degrees. It's a warm one today. We have the customer Marty here.
00:18What's your story? I overestimated my abilities and the ability of the vehicle. Well you couldn't
00:24have picked a better place to do it.
00:47Yep there it is. There it is. Wow. Yeah. I tried wrapping my winch around that culvert down
00:56there but that ended up snapping my winch line. Okay Jamie they're gonna want to know did you bring
01:00the appropriate footwear today? I didn't bring the appropriate anything. I might have thought
01:06we were going on a date tonight so I kind of dressed up a little. Tomorrow is Mother's Day.
01:13All right let's see what we got here.
01:17Oh that is deep.
01:27One wheel in the air.
01:33This might be what stopped you from rolling all the way. Your spare tire and your pedal hitch.
01:46And the rear lockers are engaged. Yeah there's not much left of this road.
01:55And it's cut under there too. Yeah the big old piece of dirt back there that was there until my
02:01rear tire hit it. How are you gonna get your wrecker? Are you thinking of bringing it across? I can
02:05drive it through there.
02:07I do need to get on this side. That's what I figured. We do need to come this way.
02:14That's gonna be it's gonna be a deal but I think that's the way we're going. It's pretty narrow too.
02:18I'm
02:18wondering if you're gonna hit front and back at the same time. I think that is your widest spot though
02:23right there. Yeah. And flattest. Oh my goodness. There we go. That's pretty steep right there at the bottom. I
02:32know.
02:33I'm looking at it. Jamie, one thing that's really important to me is that sticks don't poke into my radiator.
02:43Well you've got a whole tree right here so. I understand that. You just watch to make sure
02:48that doesn't happen. Holy cow. I think you're gonna belly before you
02:53you can touch the bottom. That surprised me.
03:17You okay? Yeah. I wasn't watching. I was
03:21filming. I fell in the hole.
03:28Okay I just was watching that instead of that.
03:50That went way smoother than I thought it was gonna be. So all I thought about was getting over here.
03:55I didn't think about where I need to be once I get over here. So that's what we're gonna look
04:00at next.
04:00How do we hook up to this to get it out of its situation without rolling it.
04:06Alright. So the muffler is hanging a little bit low there. Yeah. Yeah I got pulled off by the hanger.
04:13Okay. Picking it up by the pendle hitch is probably one of the places we need to hook it. But
04:23that's not gonna stop it from...
04:27Going front end. From the front end going over. I just think I need to get... I'm gonna be nosed
04:34pretty close into that saltwood right there. We call it tamarack. I don't know if it's a true
04:41tamarack. I don't even know if saying it's a true tamarack is the right way to say any of it.
04:47But I don't want to call it tamarack. Some people in the comments correct me and call it salt.
04:52Salt brush or salt. What did I say the first time? I don't know. I've never heard it called that.
04:58Salt brush. I've heard it called tamarack. Alright.
05:05I'm thinking. I don't know if it's easy to see but it wouldn't take too much to roll this
05:12to finish rolling it would it? No it wouldn't. The thing is is there's nothing it's in the air.
05:18Like it's just gonna be in the air. I would love to get the back end. If we got the
05:24whole thing back
05:25and got both back wheels right here then we could get in front and pick it up and back it
05:30off of here.
05:32I think I'm gonna line up straight behind it and I'm gonna get onto both of those
05:39bow shackles and stabilize it from the back. Let's try that. Let's see what that looks like.
05:47Okay so I want the center of my boom about right here. Okay.
06:03You got to go that way more.
06:12Whoa. If I go that way more I'll be in the wash.
06:17Okay. Well it's not right where you wanted it but it's close. It will be in a second. As soon
06:22as I start picking up on this side it will be where I want it.
06:38So the rig needs to be like four inches farther forward. But I'm gonna back up first. Okay. So you're
06:48gonna hate it and then you're gonna like it. Okay.
07:03What now? You're good.
07:22How strong is this for a tire mount? Probably not very strong.
07:27No, no it's not. It's only the two bolts on it now.
07:31Two bolts on it, you said.
07:33Okay.
07:40Okay.
07:50They're putting some pressure against it but not all the pressure.
08:01Okay, I'm gonna try some other stuff here.
08:06Now we're gonna use a side wrench.
08:08Yeah. Hopefully. I don't think anything over there is strong enough to hold it.
08:16Do you need a snatch or anything?
08:18Well, there's nothing over there strong enough.
08:21I don't think.
08:26Ah, that's okay. I've got a, I've always got a solution.
08:43Yeah, I'm worried about the front end.
08:45Front end.
08:46Are you?
08:47Yes.
08:48So am I.
09:09We need a tree right there.
09:19What are we gonna try?
09:22Oh, there's a good bar right here.
09:26How strong is that bar?
09:28I say that's part of the whole roll cave.
09:32Yeah, it is.
09:37It's covered with little plastic trim pieces.
09:44That's way better.
09:47Okay.
09:48That's the wind's right there.
09:51What is this?
09:52How does, how does this back open?
09:56Yeah, it's just gonna.
09:58Okay.
09:59Hang on there.
10:00All right, that's fine.
10:01That's all we need.
10:02That's all we need.
10:03Now I've got some options here.
10:06I think right around there.
10:14All right.
10:15That's better icing later than that.
10:17You like that?
10:18Yes.
10:19By the time you climb up and down that, you're gonna be tired.
10:21I'm gonna be in shape.
10:23Okay, look out, Peanut.
10:24I'm gonna be doing that.
10:25Yeah.
10:51Oh, my God.
10:56As soon as the front wheel gets on that culvert, are you in four-wheel drive right now?
11:01Yes.
11:02Can you take it out?
11:03Yeah, let's.
11:05Woo.
11:05Yeah, let me see the keys.
11:07Oh, you did something there.
11:10All right.
11:11Okay.
11:13Please just stay stable.
11:15I want that front wheel to roll up on that culvert.
11:19So before it gets to the top, I want you to tell me.
11:23When it's on top, I'm going to straighten the steering wheel back out, but not until then.
11:27Okay.
11:28So you're just going to stop me.
11:30Okay, Jamie.
11:31Yeah.
11:32I've got to drive forward.
11:33The wrecker?
11:34Yeah.
11:35I don't expect the Jeep's going to move.
11:38The reason I don't think the Jeep's going to move is because this back tire is in the bank
11:43and that front tire has to climb up over that.
11:46I'm going to pull forward.
11:47See how I'm in my boom?
11:48I can't pull it any further into me.
11:50I've got to get away from it.
11:52Right.
11:52So I'm going to get away from it by pulling forward like a foot.
11:57But see this?
11:58This is your guide.
11:59When this rope is touching this, that's it.
12:03I can't go any further forward and you'll stop me.
12:05Okay.
12:07Okay.
12:31You're good.
12:32Stop.
12:34You did it.
12:35We are exactly where I said.
12:37Okay.
12:37I want it to be.
12:38And I'm very proud of you for doing that for me.
12:41All right.
12:42I'm going to go look at this tire.
12:44Okay.
12:45We're not quite ready to steer the front wheel yet.
12:47I'm going to pull back another couple of feet.
12:51And then we'll do it.
12:52This is quite delicate work in case you don't fall.
13:01The tire is squishing.
13:13Okay.
13:16Okay.
13:16Well, you're in the air.
13:17I don't know if you're going to hit...
13:19You're going to have to come back further to even hit the culvert.
13:22Because you're in the air.
13:23The tire is in the air?
13:24Yeah.
13:24That's what we want.
13:25Okay.
13:27Okay.
13:27Okay.
13:29Woo.
13:30Here's the problem.
13:31I don't want this.
13:32Because, see, we've got a lot of tension.
13:34We're lifting up on the Jeep with that line right there.
13:36But we're also pulling this way.
13:39About equal.
13:40It's about a 45 degree angle.
13:41That means when this tire comes up over the top of this, this whole thing could just rock
13:46into the back of the truck.
13:48At least it doesn't have a back window to break.
13:50If I had Lizzie, Caitlin, or Colin here, I'd put them in the Jeep right now.
13:56I just have to wrap my head around what the next thing this is going to do.
14:00Weird.
14:01And I think...
14:03I don't think it's going to be too weird in a second.
14:07Because once we get the weight of this tire on the ground, then we don't have that pulling
14:12anymore.
14:13I'm just going to turn the wheel right now and hope for the best.
14:17That's all I can do.
14:31All right.
14:32Now, we don't want this wheel turning.
14:38All right.
14:39That got us what we want right there.
14:41Okay.
14:41I've got to go out for a second.
14:50Is there a key to take this Rotopax off?
14:54Yes.
14:55This Rotopax is...
14:57If we take it off, we'll get a little bit more room to run the boom.
15:01Things are looking good, though.
15:02This is definitely going much better now that we're hooked up higher on that.
15:07I'm afraid if we'd have stayed where we were, we'd be first putting it on its wheels again
15:13before we pulled it out.
15:15That should be it.
15:17Okay.
15:26All right.
15:26What's that front tire doing?
15:29Okay.
15:30It is on the culvert.
15:33Okay.
15:33I don't think anything's going to happen unless we drive the truck forward.
15:37The way the wheels are turned, it's going to climb for quite a bit.
15:39So, the next event that I do not want to happen is I don't want that front wheel to fall
15:45in
15:45that hole.
15:46Okay.
15:47You understand what I'm saying?
15:49You understand what I'm saying?
15:49That hole right there by the big mud thing right there.
15:53The hole the Jeep is in.
15:55What's going to happen as we go forward is that it's going to climb uphill for a second and
16:01then, but it's not going to be far enough to miss this hole.
16:05See, this wheel didn't even miss the hole.
16:08You know what I mean?
16:10That wheel is not going to end up where this wheel is.
16:12And this wheel is not even good enough.
16:16So.
16:17Why are you hooking your Rory rope up?
16:20Just to give a little pressure so we're not doing weird loading on the winch lines that
16:30can't be reconciled.
16:34Okay.
16:35I don't think that's going to help much, but it could help some.
16:49I don't like this.
16:51I don't like this next move, but we got to do it.
16:55So I'm really looking at, I want an update every inch.
17:00I hate being in charge of this.
17:02You're not.
17:03You're just a sensor.
17:13Right there.
17:17Okay.
17:19So let's roll.
17:23We're going to roll a little further so that I can set the brake, put it in gear, completely
17:28disconnect from it, and reconnect.
17:31And I need a wrecker on this side of it now.
17:34Maybe.
17:35I don't know.
17:36Maybe not.
17:36So here's what I'm going to do now.
17:38I'm going to pull forward nice and slow.
17:43We're going to see if that front wheel unloads like it did.
17:46Remember how it unloaded?
17:47Mm-hmm.
17:49Over the culvert.
17:50We want to see if it unloads over this and we can just roll.
17:55Yeah.
17:55So just watch that real close and real careful.
18:05Mm-hmm.
18:08I don't think it's going to unload.
18:09I think it's going to fall.
18:17Stop.
18:22Is that going to unload?
18:23What does it look like over there?
18:24Or is it just going to fall?
18:28How much weight do you think is on that tire right now?
18:33There's some squish on it.
18:38There's not a lot of weight on it.
18:40I'm just going to keep rolling.
18:41Okay.
18:42See what happens.
18:43It can't tip over.
18:45We know that.
18:56Okay.
18:57It's coming off there.
19:13It's starting to come up.
19:22You're out.
19:24Whoa.
19:30Did that do it?
19:32Yeah.
19:48I feel better.
19:55All right.
19:56I'm going to get out of the way.
19:59Okay.
20:02Okay.
20:05All right.
20:07What's that smile for?
20:09That was a tough one.
20:10That was a head scratcher.
20:12There you go, sir.
20:14Thank you very much.
20:16I appreciate it.
20:16Thanks for giving us a call.
20:17Like you don't know.
20:18I'm glad we got you out today.
20:20I am too.
20:21See, I check out tomorrow morning.
20:24I'm headed straight back.
20:25All right.
20:26You had enough?
20:27I think I've about had enough fun.
20:28He's going to go out the way that he came in.
20:30We're going to go out the way that we came in and Jamie's going to show us how she navigates
20:35this particular ditch.
20:38Oh, I don't really, I can't see anything.
20:41So I'm just going by what Matt tells me, but this is a big, that way.
20:52So I'm just going by Matt's directions because I can't see anything.
20:57So I'm just trying to go a little slow.
21:12Wow.
21:14Okay.
21:14We just hit the other side.
21:21Stop.
21:22You're going to have to hit it at an angle.
21:24So back up.
21:25Okay.
21:26Pull forward.
21:31Okay.
21:32Now turn into it as you come up.
21:34Turn into it.
21:36Sharp, fast.
21:44Good job.
21:47You didn't turn very fast, but you did turn.
21:50So that put you quite a bit higher than-
21:52Yeah, I'm really high.
21:54That's okay.
21:55Steer all your wheels this way and crawl.
22:01Rear steer that way.
22:03Stop.
22:04You made this look too easy.
22:06Back it up.
22:07I want you to roll through it as soon as your back wheels start to climb, let go of the
22:15rear
22:15steer steer and just drive out of the rear steer and just drive out of there.
22:17One smooth motion, a little bit of throttle.
22:20Go.
22:23Stop.
22:25Stop.
22:26Stop.
22:26Okay.
22:26Back it up.
22:27The gas is going to go.
22:28The gas is going to be high in the beginning and then slowly less and less.
22:31If it starts to climb, if it starts to climb, give it the right amount to keep climbing.
22:36Okay.
22:36Don't break anything.
22:37I'm trying not to.
22:41Go.
22:43Go.
22:44Hold it like that.
22:46Hold it like that.
22:47Now, Jamie, do what you did last time.
22:49Only do it twice as much.
22:54Gotta be in drive.
22:56Dang it.
22:57Okay.
22:58One fault.
22:59One fluid motion.
23:01Go.
23:03Stop.
23:07I'm going to trade your places.
23:08Okay.
23:10Sorry.
23:11You don't fight.
23:12This is a hard fight.
23:21You know what?
23:32I love this solo one.
23:33See.
23:34I'm fine.
23:34I love streetwise.
23:34Yeah.
23:34All right.
23:48I'm sorry but...
23:49I'm afraid I'm gonna break something so I don't dare give it as much gas as I
23:53should I guess. What do you think of that? Rub it in broski. Alright that was a
23:59pretty tricky climb and it required steering at both ends of the truck while
24:04you're climbing and really exact and precise throttle inputs. I would say
24:09Jamie did really really well and she learned a lot. I just don't want to break
24:13anything and I'm afraid if I give it too much which is probably what I would do
24:18I would break something. That was fun. That was a crazy climb. It's huge. Alright we
24:24got that job done just in time to make our date so we can go to dinner now. Just a
24:30little bit more dirty than I was before. Thanks for watching. And I know all this
24:34stuff it's just in the moment hard for me to react to it I guess I don't know I'm
24:40just not as good a driver as you are. It's nothing about that it's all about
24:44muscle memory. I don't do it enough.
