Imagine staging a protest at your high school, only to accidentally uncover a lost piece of the ancient Roman Empire hidden right beneath your feet. In this mini-documentary, we explore the mind-blowing true story of Roman teenagers who uncovered a 2,000-year-old secret. In January 2021, students protesting remote learning occupied their high school right across the street from the Colosseum. But while exploring the dark, forgotten corners of the building, they stumbled upon a locked door in the basement. What lay beyond was a massive, incredibly well-preserved ancient Roman villa (or domus) dating back to the second century C.E.—the era of Emperors Hadrian and Marcus Aurelius. Complete with stunning frescoes, mosaic floors, and 48 crates worth of ancient artifacts, this forgotten palace had been hidden right under the school for over a century.
