00:14It's a time to wake up and it's time to wake up.
00:16It's time to wake up and cry.
00:20It's time to wake up and cry.
00:42This is it, 9 athletes, 1 gold, Shikari Richardson will be in lane 9, the 7th fastest woman
00:52in history, this is her first global final, will her nerves hold, and will being on the
00:59outside actually help her, she needs a better start than the one she got in the semis, 1084
01:05she made it through as a non-automatic qualifier, so too did Eva Svoboda, no longer the 60 meter
01:14specialist who can't finish these races, she's not used to sub 11 this year, by a thousandth
01:19of a second she just tied Dina Rasher's spin, for a non-automatic spot, biggest race of
01:25her life, she's on the other side of the track in one, what a race, for Tamari Rich, Tamari
01:37Davis, she's only 20, and she's walking out here, for a world championship final, of the
01:44very highest, highest quality, she's in lane 8, alongside her teammate, Shikari Richardson.
01:55So often, this young woman produces her best exactly when she needs it, the world champion
02:01over 200 meters, 4 years ago, she got a silver, over the 100 meters, could she deliver, another
02:14magnificent performance, does history beckon, for Cote Divoire and Mani Jose Tarlou, silvers,
02:22silver medalist, 6 years ago, over the 1 and 200 meters, she's unbeaten, over the 100
02:28this year, she's in the form of her life, at the age of 34, can she deliver once again?
02:37In lane 3, silver medalist last year, over the 200 meters, now Brittany Brown, goes for the
02:44shortest sprint, and the highest pressure of all, the third American to make it into this
02:52final, there were hints that she would be disqualified again, for a second successive
03:01year in the semis, Julie and Alfred represents St Lucia, they've never finished higher than
03:08seventh, in any event, Alfred's got aspirations for medals, she's been a revelation, on the American
03:14collegiate circuit this year, the fastest living woman on earth, over 200 meters, is the quickest
03:26woman in the world this year, over 100, can she conquer all, and step out of the shadow,
03:32of her hugely decorated compatriot, Shellyann Fraser-Price, is bidding for a sixth world title,
03:41remember this has been an injury-disrupted season, if she does it, surely, surely would be the
03:48greatest achievement of a career, that has taken her to the top of the world, for a decade
03:54and a half, what a moment, and what a sense of anticipation here, Swoboda, Poland, in one, Asher Smith,
04:05Great Britain, two, Brittany Brown, USA, in three, Sharika Jackson, Jamaica, in four, Shellyann Fraser-Price, in five,
04:19the iconic figure, Julianne Alfred, the biggest moment of her career, Murray Jose Talu, desperate
04:26to make history for the Africans, Tamari Davis, and Shikari Richardson, USA, who is the fastest
04:36woman in the world, this without question, is one of the highest quality sprint lineups the
04:40sport of athletics has ever witnessed, this field of nine includes four of the fastest women
04:45ever to have lived, and here on a balmy night in Budapest, their paths converge once more
04:50as they prepare to try and seize this opportunity for global glory and sporting immortality, it's
04:56time for the women's 100 meter world championship final
05:00and here on a balmy night in Budapest, their way first time, Cam Shelly out, Fraser-Price
05:26Deliver, she's got a good start, but what's her, Michael Jackson?
05:29And here on a balmy night in Budapest, their way first time, Cam Shelly out, Fraser-Price
05:30Jackson, is she just going to do it? Oh, on the near side, right at the end, and we're getting
05:38ready to write the script for Fraser-Price, but from nowhere in lane nine, it's an incredible
05:46performance from Shikari Richardson, it looked as though Jackson was going to finish it ahead
05:52of Fraser-Price, and she did, but the Jamaicans are stunned, because Richardson came through like a rocket in the
06:00lane nine, her first global final, and she tastes gold, she has smashed Jackson, she has smashed
06:09Fraser-Price, the iconic five times champion was stunned, Richardson needed a better start than she got in the
06:18semis, and she came through in fine style, and maybe, just maybe, being in lane nine was the best thing
06:28that
06:28could have happened to her for that final, Richardson can hardly believe it, ten, sixty-five, that is
06:35outstanding, and this time, the script was not meant to finish with a fairytale for the
06:41Jamaicans.
06:44Lane nine, definitely a good thing for Shikari Richardson, that start, we couldn't have been better, couldn't have been
06:51more different than the one she got in the semi-final, and I wonder, conversely, for Shariqa
06:56Jackson to not be alongside Shikari Richardson, I think that Costa, Shariqa Jackson was battling
07:02with Shelly and Fraser-Price, they were quite rightly looking at each other, and they wouldn't have known
07:07that Shikari Richardson was having an absolute fly-up out in lane nine, I think it was a really, really,
07:14dramatic, the way it was set up with the different lane draws.
07:19Lyles took the men's title, Richardson has stormed, stormed to the women's title, she breaks
07:30Shelly and Fraser-Price's championship record from last year, she's a huge figure in our sport,
07:37Richardson, but there have been question marks, and whether her nerve would hold.
07:42Watch Fraser-Price in the middle, she put Jackson under pressure, then Jackson begins to pull
07:48away from her compatriot, Maddie Jose Tarlou was run out of it at this stage, Richardson came
07:54wide on the outside, still accelerating towards the finish line, and she's denied the Jamaicans
08:02a golden finish to the third night here, lovely high knee lift, driving for the line, no sign
08:09of nerves, remember she's never been in a global final before, but she knew as she thrust her
08:15arms into the air, she knew she was about to taste gold, and deny two of the best sprinters
08:23we've ever seen in Jackson and Fraser-Price, the golden ticket to the Budapest night sky.
08:36Brilliant, brilliant running, what a way to finish day three, I said at the start of this
08:40session, I can hardly believe it's only been three days of this world championships, it's
08:44been wonderful so far.
08:47Sha'Carri Richardson, quite rightly you said it Rob, there's been question marks about how
08:51she performs under pressure, when there's adversity it's been hard for her to deal with, she's a
08:57young athlete and she is incredibly talented, and it's just wonderful to see her rise to
09:02the top in a big pressure situation like this, and what could this do for her career at her
09:07age and stage, we know she's quick, but now she's got that gold medal, that could be a
09:12real stepping stone and a platform to launch what could be a phenomenal few years for Sha'Carri Richardson.
09:18That was one of the great line-ups for any sprint final, you have four of the eight fastest who
09:26have ever, ever lived, and she blasted Jackson away in the last ten metres, where acceleration
09:34towards the end was extraordinary.
09:37When Jackson, as we talk about her speed endurance, she's a great 200 metre runner, she'd go in
09:42the 200 later in the week and that's her super strength, and Sha'Carri Richardson just made
09:47that look ordinary, the way she could pull away in the latest stages of the race there, and
09:53I can't wait for the 200 as well, it's going to be another wonderful competition on the women's
09:57short sprints, but this 100 has been absolutely phenomenal the whole way through, and the men's
10:03side as well was incredibly entertaining last night, but that for me, for Sha'Carri Richardson,
10:07has been fantastic.
10:10Fraser Price is on the podium again, despite only racing twice on the circuit before coming
10:15here, her whole season disrupted with a knee injury, a five-time champion taking the bronze,
10:22Sharika Jackson with a silver, as she had last year, those are our three medalists.
10:31Tyloon was fourth in 1081 after a great season, Swimoda and Brittany Brown, sixth and seventh,
10:37and we had seven women running inside 11 seconds, that's how high quality the race was.
10:43What a great race, we have seen that this track's fast here in Budapest, and it's wonderful to see a
10:49championship record from Sha'Carri Richardson, that's very exciting as we look towards the other
10:52events that we're going to have coming up over the next six days, but it's great to see these women
10:57smiling as well, it's all tension, when you look at that core and when you look at the golf buggy,
11:01it naturally, this is what they want to do, they want to be friends with each other,
11:05there's so much shared camaraderie, so much shared experience out there, and here they are just
11:10relaxing on a lap of honour, I wonder, wonder whether Shelley-Anne Fraser-Price would have had
11:15her doubts over the last few months about whether she could get back on this podium.
11:18She's got the gold number of the defending champion, Sha'Carri Richardson has got the green
11:24bib of the world lead, Sha'Carri Richardson has now matched that mark with a 10.65 o'clock
11:29and she'll join Sha'Carri Jackson at top of the times in 2023, but she will be on top of
11:35the podium with a gold medal.
11:38We've never seen a quicker time in a women's world championship 100m final.
11:45That's how good the performance was from Sha'Carri Richardson.
11:51From lane 9, she was destined to shine. Sha'Carri Richardson is the world champion in a championship record.
11:59Sharika Jackson, the silver, Shelley-Anne Fraser-Price, the defending champion, has to settle for bronze this time.
12:05Seven women inside 11 seconds, one of the great finals and one of the all-time standout individual performances in
12:15world championship sprint history.
12:17Richardson is the toast of the United States tonight.
12:25Wow, what a finish. What a night this is turning out to be for the Americans.
12:32Grant Holloway going three in a row in the men's 110m hurdles.
12:39And here, watch lane 9, she's down at this stage.
12:43Shelley-Anne Fraser-Price, now Sharika Jackson's leading.
12:46And just in the last 10m,
12:49Richardson's acceleration takes her to a moment that will never be forgotten.
12:55Year 1065,
12:58August 13.
