00:00Thailand has a problem with its water. And no, we're not talking about droughts or floods this
00:04time. Researchers recently found dangerous levels of arsenic and other heavy metals in rivers across
00:10northern Thailand. Some people living near these rivers are already showing symptoms consistent
00:15with long-term heavy metal exposure. And the scary part is that a lot of this pollution
00:20may not even be coming from Thailand. Evidence points to unregulated gold and rare earth mining
00:26in Myanmar, upstream of where these rivers flow into Thailand. But because Myanmar is in the middle
00:31of a civil war, shutting down these operations is not exactly straightforward. And even if the
00:37pollution across the border stops tomorrow, Thailand still has its own history of struggling with
00:42industrial water contamination. And this raises a bigger question. When another country's problems
00:48can end up in your own backyard, your drinking water, your food supply, and potentially your own
00:53body? Is this still just an environmental issue? Or is this a threat to national security?
00:59Tune into The Signal across the nation's official accounts as we dive deep into this investigation.
