00:00Andy Robertson has paid tribute to his former teammate, Diogo Jota, ahead of the World Cup.
00:07Previously, the Liverpool left-back has talked about Diogo Jota and Andy Robertson's dream of playing in the same World
00:15Cup,
00:15obviously for different nations, Portugal and Scotland.
00:19Robertson received a message from Diogo Jota's family. Here is him receiving that letter.
00:27Andy, I'm writing to you with a heart full of longing, gratitude and above all pride.
00:32Diogo often spoke of you, of the friendship you built, the battles you fought together, the challenges, the laughter, the
00:38conversations about football and about dreams.
00:40The World Cup was one of those dreams, a dream that two of you nurtured side by side with the
00:45same passion with which you took to the pitch.
00:48When I heard your words and learnt what you felt on that day when Scotland qualified for the World Cup
00:52after so many years of waiting,
00:54realised that Diogo never truly left the pitch.
00:57By achieving that moment and securing your place at the World Cup, you won't be going alone.
01:01You'll be taking his dream with you too.
01:02And when you step onto the pitch, I know it won't just be you walking out.
01:06Diogo will be with you in your thoughts, in your steps, in your heart.
01:09So today I want to thank you.
01:11Thank you for not forgetting him.
01:12Thank you for taking him with you.
01:14Thank you for turning the pain of loss into strength and into something so beautiful.
01:17That's how we do it here at home too, every day.
01:20He would be and is incredibly proud of you.
01:23Cherish that dream, Andy.
01:25Live it for yourself and for him.
01:27With love, gratitude and all my support.
01:30Root Cardoso.
01:31You know, it's obviously, you know, amazing of Root to, you know, even take the time of, you know,
01:38for what she's going through to write, you know, me a letter.
01:40But it just sums up the person that she is.
01:45Thankfully, I got to know her in the amazing times that they had, you know, obviously been
01:49to their wedding, celebrated trophies with her and Jots.
01:54But yeah, and then obviously I've seen how heartbroken we all were, but in particular
01:58her when, you know, obviously Jots left and so.
02:02Just thank you.
02:04That letter will, you know, stay with me for a very long time.
02:08We've just got to carry him with us.
02:10We will always make sure that his name will never be forgotten, that his memories will
02:14always be cherished.
02:15And like Root says in there, the dreams that we'd shared of trying to be at the World Cup.
02:20Obviously, I think 2022 World Cup was when me and Jots really became close.
02:24He missed out because of injury.
02:25Obviously, Scotland never qualified.
02:27And I think we just spoke so much about what it would mean to us both to be at the
02:31next
02:31World Cup.
02:31And that was the aim for both of us to get to America.
02:34And yeah, obviously, I'm just gutted that, you know, that was taken away from him.
02:39But I think, you know, obviously I'll carry him in my heart and I know he'll be with me
02:43come the first game, come the second game, come the third game and, you know, hopefully
02:47beyond that.
02:47And yeah, he's always, he's always there.
02:50He's always something that we think about.
02:52He's always, the memories are always something that we bring up and sometimes laugh, sometimes
02:57cry.
02:57And, you know, I think that would be no different.
