00:01Giants behind Robbie Ray trying to pick up a win today to salvage a game in this three game series.
00:07Ray's not been getting deep at all. He went five innings his last start.
00:11The previous four starts he had gone less than five innings.
00:14And so right now the Giants might like to push him deeper than that four to five inning mark.
00:19Two down and nobody on. Strike three, called a fastball right down the middle.
00:23Three up, three down. And Foster Griffin on the mound has meant win day.
00:27The Nationals have won his last four starts and they're ten and three when he takes the ball.
00:32So that means good things with Foster Griffin getting the start.
00:34Fourteenth start of the year. He's really been their best starter. Seven and two with a three six three ERA.
00:40Lined over to third and Curtis Meade right there.
00:43Not hit all that sharply. Back to Griffin. Good fielding pitcher.
00:47Knocks it down. Fires a strike to Chaparro and there's two away.
00:51Here's Chapman with two outs. Chapman is going to hit him hard. It's knocked on. He's got a hit.
00:56That was a scald. You want to watch a defensive player decide to play it off to the side? Watch
01:03this.
01:04I'm going to play it off to the side. Yeah, I predict it. I want to have kids.
01:08His line toward left center field chasing over with the play is Young and he makes the grab in the
01:13left center gap.
01:14So Griffin survives the hit from Chapman and a runner left at first.
01:19So one out four straight retired for Ray as the Nationals are in the midst of the heart of their
01:23lineup.
01:23So in a line drive shallow left racing in his left fielder Barracotto and he has to play out of
01:28the bounce.
01:28Knock it down with his chest. So the Nationals first hit is a blooper for Lyle.
01:33You can run on Robbie Ray. He has allowed thirteen stolen bases but he does have three pick offs.
01:38Lyle takes off and he's going to rip second base with ease into scoring position with just one out here
01:44in the second.
01:45And Dale and Lyle picking up his sixth stolen base of the season.
01:48Now a swing and a high fly ball shallow center Cox is in very shallow center.
01:54He's under it and he's got it.
01:56Lyle has to hold at second base.
01:59Strike three ball in the inside corner.
02:02And I don't think he challenged the ball and he thought about it.
02:05But it was right on the inside edge.
02:07Got him looking.
02:09Here's Jung Ho Lee.
02:10He's had twenty nine hits in the last twelve games.
02:13And he's still rolling.
02:14Seventeen game hit streak intact going into today.
02:17And he fights off a curveball.
02:19That hit him on the back foot.
02:21And he kind of walked out of the box and he had a little bit of a limp.
02:25Kind of on top of the foot.
02:27And Griffin finally got him.
02:29Strike out of Lee for the first out in the second.
02:31So Dave Greshner going to take him down there and run him through a few tests.
02:35So that tells me he's really feeling it.
02:38And I do think that he tells you a lot about the hitter.
02:40Obviously his ability to hit but how mentally tough he is.
02:43I think that needs to be pointed out.
02:45Swing and a miss.
02:45That one bounced in front of the plate.
02:47Ruiz knocks it down.
02:48He'll tag Barracotto on the back side.
02:49He swung at a fifty five foot curveball.
02:51So Griffin with a couple of strikeouts and a scoreless second.
02:54And here we go into the third inning.
02:56Robbie Ray back to work.
02:57Flip shot out to left.
02:58Charging in.
02:59And making a diving catch.
03:01Barracotto.
03:02You can understand why he got a late break on that one.
03:05It was a weird awkward looking swing.
03:08And the ball came off the bat without much oomph at all.
03:12Barracotto was a little late to get his jump but timed his dive.
03:16And a swing and a line drive to left.
03:18Barracotto on the move again.
03:19He backs up and plays it on a hop.
03:21And so Ruiz has himself a base hit.
03:24Top of the order now.
03:25And James Wood the designated hitter.
03:27And the second to start the game.
03:29With the major league leader in runs scored this season with sixty.
03:31Sends one out to left center.
03:33That'll chase Jonah Cox into the gap.
03:35Near the wall.
03:36A leap.
03:37And it's out of here.
03:38James Wood leaves the yard.
03:40And the Nationals have another early lead on this road trip.
03:43Two nothing here in the third on Wood's 18th bomb of the season.
03:46Robbie Ray surrendering his first home run to a left handed hitter all year.
03:51It's Washington two and San Francisco nothing.
03:54Bottom of the third inning.
03:55And Foster Griffin takes the bound with a two nothing lead.
03:59After James Wood two run homer in the top of the inning.
04:02Swing and a miss.
04:03At a fastball he's out on strikes.
04:06He grounds one a rise.
04:07Fair ball down the third base line.
04:09Into left field.
04:10Hustling over toward the line to scoop it up Lyle.
04:13And that will keep the rise at first.
04:15Two out base runner.
04:16Swing and a bouncing ball toward short.
04:18Nunez has it.
04:19Almost stumbles.
04:20But makes the underhanded flip.
04:21To Bebos at second for the forced play that retires the side.
04:25Cruz is retired for the first out.
04:27Here at the top of inning number four.
04:29Swing and a shot up the middle.
04:31Picked by Schmidt after it hit the mound.
04:33Casey throws high to first.
04:35And Devers reaches up.
04:37Takes the throw.
04:37And gets his foot down on the bag.
04:40There was a lot going on there.
04:41It was a low liner that hit the mound.
04:44Bounced behind second.
04:45Devers did a really nice job to jump up.
04:48Lift off the bag to make sure he made the catch and then land.
04:52And make sure his right foot actually make sure he touched the base.
04:55Is swung on a miss.
04:56He used the change up.
04:58Strikes out Jacob Young.
04:59That was beautifully thrown.
05:01Third strikeout for Ray.
05:02Foster Griffin back to work.
05:04Last of the fourth inning.
05:05At the knees with the heater.
05:07Strikeout for Foster Griffin.
05:08Swing and a dribbler at the third base line will spin.
05:11Barehanded pick up by Griffin.
05:13The throw to a stretching.
05:14Chaparro is a good play for the out to retire the side.
05:17And a 1-2-3 inning for Foster Griffin.
05:20Foster Griffin has four of them through four scoreless innings.
05:22Has not walked the batter.
05:24We are going to have a clock violation.
05:26Daniel Susak did not get out of the dugout.
05:28He was in the dugout.
05:29The clock was down at 10-9-8 as we got back from the ID.
05:31And so Susak is down a strike.
05:34I don't know where he was.
05:36Grounded up the middle.
05:38Bibas is there.
05:39And there's one out.
05:41Grounded out to short.
05:42Nunez is there.
05:44A couple of steps and a fire.
05:46Andres Chaparro had to go up to get it.
05:48Slapped the tag on Barry Goto.
05:49Called safe by first base umpire Dennis Ayasona.
05:53And Nassim Nunez had time there.
05:55Tried to show off the arm and missed the mark.
05:58The Nationals look like they're going to challenge this.
06:01After a year the runner was tagged before the base.
06:04The ball in the field is overturned.
06:06Washington retains their challenge.
06:07Swing a line drive.
06:08Shallow center.
06:09Jacob Young is there now moving back a step.
06:11Makes the catch.
06:11That ball hung up a little more than I thought initially.
06:14But right to the center fielder for out number three.
06:16So Foster Griffin.
06:17Five scoreless frames so far.
06:19We're on to the sixth.
06:20Robbie Ray has completed five innings for the first time in his last six starts.
06:24Tell you the hard work that Robbie Ray has done mechanically.
06:26To work on the mechanics and correct his mechanics that he's been doing on the side.
06:31Between starts is paying off today.
06:32It's the best command he's had in about seven starts.
06:36The lines went toward right center field.
06:38Coming on.
06:38Jungle Lee.
06:39And he tries to decoy.
06:41Cruz who's heading toward first.
06:43It drops in for a base.
06:45Cruz with one steal in one try.
06:47Stole seven out of nine this year.
06:49The Triple-A Rochester.
06:50We'll see if the Nationals trying to make something happen.
06:53Now the batter.
06:54Left-handed hitting Dale and Lyle.
06:56Lyle takes it up and in.
06:58Throw down.
06:58Not nearly in time.
07:00And Cruz in the second.
07:01With ease.
07:02He has his second major league stolen base this season.
07:05So a little bloop.
07:06A stolen base.
07:07And now a chance for Dale and Lyle to have the lead.
07:09And Lyle swings and loops.
07:10One shallow left.
07:11This may fall.
07:12It's going to drop in for a base hit.
07:14Cruz around third.
07:15He will score.
07:16So Dale and Lyle bloops one over the infield.
07:20Dropping in.
07:21And shallow left.
07:22Toward the line for the base hit.
07:23And his 34th run bounty of the year.
07:25The Nationals able to add a run.
07:27With two out and nobody on.
07:29And it's now the Nationals three.
07:30And the Giants nothing.
07:31Young a line drive up the middle.
07:33That's a base hit.
07:34Lyle can cruise to third.
07:35Throw comes to second from Jonah Cox.
07:38And the Nationals with some two out damage here.
07:41Three straight singles.
07:41They've already pushed across a run.
07:44To a board with two out for Nassim Nunez.
07:46And that's going to be the day for Robbie Ray.
07:49And the Giants go to their bullpen.
07:52Carson Seymour is your new pitcher.
07:54And they are already trailing three nothing.
07:56And the Nationals are threatening to get more here.
07:58As Nunez takes ball two.
08:00Jacob Young will take second base without a throw.
08:02The Nationals now with seven stolen bases in this series.
08:05The most they've had in a series this season.
08:08Three today.
08:09And there's two in scoring position.
08:11Swing to ground ball left side.
08:12Going to sneak through a base hit left field.
08:14Lyle will score.
08:15Young around third.
08:16He's coming home.
08:18He will score.
08:19Two runs single.
08:21Three runs are home for the Nationals here in the top of the sixth inning.
08:24And it is now the Nationals five and the Giants nothing.
08:29Bebas takes it high.
08:30Throw down by Susak.
08:31And the Nationals are running all over the joint here at Oracle Park.
08:34The Nationals have stolen three bases in the inning and four in the game.
08:40They are running wild on the Giants here in the sixth inning.
08:43Ground ball right side and through.
08:45Nunez will head to the plate.
08:47Thrill coming from Jung-Hoo Lee is off the line.
08:49The second easily is Bebas.
08:52The Nationals are pouring it on.
08:54And they lead six nothing now.
08:55Wow.
08:56I mean stay hot with runners in scoring position for Jorby Bebas.
09:00One down in the bottom half of the sixth inning.
09:03They'll bring up Matt Chapman the third baseman.
09:05Right handed hitter.
09:06Swing and there's a high drive into deep left center field.
09:09Way back there still going.
09:11Adios!
09:12Pelonta!
09:14There's one.
09:15The Giants hit their first home run of the game.
09:17And it was Matt Chapman.
09:19Six to one.
09:21Washington.
09:22Lines one.
09:22Base hit in the right field.
09:24And that extends his hitting streak.
09:26He's now hit in 18 games in a row.
09:29That's his 35th hit during this hitting streak.
09:33Swing and a miss.
09:34He struck him out with a cutter.
09:35So that will end the inning.
09:37He completes six innings here this afternoon.
09:40It's a pop fly base hit for Meade.
09:43Dropping in between Cox, Lee and Arise.
09:46The Nationals have runners on first and second.
09:48It's going to be Luis Garcia Jr.
09:50The lefty to pinch hit for Andres Chaparro.
09:52Garcia elevates one to left.
09:54That'll back up Gilbert.
09:56Near the wall.
09:57It goes off the wall.
09:59Wood held up.
09:59Now he's around third trying to score.
10:01And he will standing.
10:03Over to third is Meade.
10:05And into second is Garcia with a pinch hit.
10:08Double off the left field wall.
10:09And the Nationals add one here in the seventh.
10:11The runner is on second and third.
10:13Still nobody out.
10:14Swing and a ground ball to the short.
10:16It's booted by Schmidt.
10:16He can't pick it up.
10:17Now he does throw to first.
10:19It's in time for the outs.
10:21But on the play, Meade scores from third.
10:24Over to third is Garcia.
10:25And the Nationals add one more.
10:27Two home in the inning.
10:28It's now the Nats eight and the Giants one.
10:30And a swing and a hard line drive in a right field.
10:33That's a base hit.
10:34Garcia will trot home from third as the right fielder Lee is up with it.
10:38Taylor Lyle has his third hit of the game.
10:40His second run batted in his 35th of the year.
10:43And it's now the Nationals nine and the Giants one.
10:46We play on bottom eight.
10:48Chapman hits another high drive.
10:50Left field at the one.
10:54It is out of here.
10:56So that's the second home run in a row for Chapman who went deep in the sixth inning with one
11:03out.
11:04Now leads off in the eighth inning and hits another one.
11:07So now nine to two Washington.
11:09And here is Devers.
11:11Now Devers hits a high drive in the center on the warning track at the wall.
11:20And it is nine to three Washington.
11:26So Chapman and then Devers one right after the other.
11:30Back to back walks after the two homers.
11:32And it'll bring in Daniel Susack catcher and number seven hitter.
11:36Swing wide drive down the left field line.
11:38Fair ball.
11:39Headed into the left field corner and hits the side wall.
11:43Lee scores.
11:45Eldridge the third.
11:46Susack a double.
11:48Could be interesting.
11:49So Schultz faces five batters in the eighth.
11:52And doesn't retire a single one.
11:54And a base hit.
11:55And all of a sudden you're one guy away from getting the tying run to home plate.
11:59Which seemed kind of impossible.
12:01Ball to the right side.
12:02Prado is right.
12:03Garcia the first baseman underhands it through Revolta covering for the out.
12:07But that does bring Eldridge home.
12:09And also moves Susack over to third.
12:12And it's nine to five.
12:13Way outside and it bounces off the catcher up to third base line.
12:16And scoring on the play is Susack from third.
12:21That's what you call rally kill and wild pitch.
12:23Clears the bases.
12:24And you had the perfect scenario.
12:27A lopsided game so you didn't have to worry about maybe using your A bullpen.
12:32But not lopsided anymore.
12:34No it's a three run game.
12:35Same situation.
12:36Whoever comes in next.
12:38We've reached the ninth inning here at Oracle Park.
12:41The Nationals nine.
12:42The Giants six.
12:43Raver San Martin faces Curtis Meade.
12:46Meade sends a fly ball to deep left.
12:49Back on it is Haas.
12:50Watches it fly out of here.
12:52The Nationals with an insurance run here at the top of the ninth on the home run by Meade.
12:5610-6 in the ninth.
12:58Well here we go.
12:59Last chance for the Giants.
13:01Bottom nine.
13:01It's 10-6.
13:03Nationals a rise leads off against.
13:05Gus Varland out of the bullpen.
13:06Driven out to triple's alley.
13:08Is anybody going to get there?
13:09No.
13:10Heading for second and stopping there is a rise.
13:13And the Giants get their lead off that are on.
13:15Now here's Chapman.
13:16He's homered his last two at bats in a row.
13:19Now he swings it.
13:20It's a high drive.
13:21Deep right field.
13:22Way back there.
13:23Still going.
13:24And it's off the 365 marker in the archway.
13:28Coming around third to score is a rise.
13:30And into second with a double is Chapman.
13:33And the belief just stiffened in that Giants dugout.
13:37And everybody's coming up on the railing.
13:39Wouldn't it be something?
13:41Very high again.
13:42High and outside.
13:44So that brings Jung-Hoo Lee to the plate.
13:47And Jung-Hoo Lee is the possible tying run.
13:50Blake Beterra is going to come out and make a pitching change.
13:53That's going to do it for Gus Varland.
13:55Faces three batters.
13:56Doesn't retire any of them.
13:58It'll be Mitchell Parker now to try and close it out here at Oracle Park.
14:02There's a live drive base hit to left field.
14:04To third comes Chapman and he'll be held up there by Gary Pettis.
14:08And the bases are loaded with nobody out.
14:12And here comes Eldridge.
14:13The Giants are 0-30 in games.
14:17We're not talking about trailing after eight innings or even after seven innings.
14:21When they've trailed at the end of six innings, the Giants have not won a single game all year.
14:260-30.
14:27I mean today they were down 6-1 at the end of six.
14:32Not very likely, but here we are in the bottom of the ninth.
14:36Wouldn't it be something?
14:37Swing and there's a high drive down the right field line.
14:41Deep into the corner.
14:43It's a grand slam!
14:44I can't believe it!
14:48The 21-year-old Eldridge has electrified Oracle Park!
14:54It's a game-ending grand slam!
14:57A walk-off grand slam for the lifetime Nationals fan.
15:02He absolutely kicks them in the stomach with a dagger.
15:06The Giants were down 9-1 into the eighth inning.
15:09And somehow they have turned it all around with one of the great turnaround victories in the history of this
15:17ballpark.
15:18Then there were all sorts of games in the early days.
