00:00Since I was asked to come on this programme, we've actually had some breaking news, and that is that an
00:05anonymous Trump administration source has said that this individual, this referee, who I remind people was Africa's referee of the
00:14year last year, so a significant figure.
00:16This individual was seeking admission to the United States, and upon further inspection by custom and border protection, derogatory information,
00:24we've heard those words already, including association, this is the key bit, with suspected members of terror organisations, was discovered,
00:33making the traveller ineligible for admission to the US under the Immigration and Nationality Act.
00:39Now, that clearly changes the terms of our conversation, the terms of our debate. However, I would still, nonetheless, offer
00:48you some wider context, and that is this, that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, has, around about
00:56six months ago, I think described Somali immigrants, and this referee, of course, is a Somali man, described Somali immigrants
01:06as garbage.
01:07And I think more recently than that, if I've got my timeline correct, he described Somalis as low IQ people.
01:16Now, this strikes me as pretty close to the language of white supremacy. And therefore, I think people around the
01:23world, many people around the world, will view even this information that is part of this breaking news that I've
01:29just revealed to you, even this information with a degree of suspicion.
