Every year, lakhs of people travel to Hyderabad for Fish Prasadam, a nearly 180-year-old tradition believed to provide relief from asthma and respiratory ailments.

00:08food festival, it's Hyderabad's famous fish prasadam, a newly 180 year old
00:12tradition that many believe helps cure asthma and respiratory ailments. Every
00:16year, laks travel from across India to the Naampali exhibition grounds where
00:20members of the Bathini family administer a small maral fish carrying a secret
00:25herbal paste.
00:26They get a fish, they carry a fish in a packet here, as you can see a live fish is
00:30brought in water here and the medicine is stuffed into this particular fish and
00:35then the medicine is given to the person or the child who is receiving the
00:43medication here. Vegetarians received the same formulation mixed with jaggery. This
00:47year too the crowd was massive. People came from Odisha, Bihar, Telangana and beyond,
00:52some traveling overnight, others waiting hours in line.
01:19For devotees, it's not just about medicine. It's about faith, family tradition and hope.

01:51But there's also a debate. While laks were by the practice, medical experts say there is no conclusive scientific evidence
01:57that fish prasadam cures asthma. Yet year after year, the crowd keep growing. Because for many here, faith is reason
