Bill Gates said Wednesday that he made a “grave error in judgment” by meeting with Jeffrey Epstein but denied any wrongdoing as the Microsoft co-founder faced hours of questioning from lawmakers about his relationship with the disgraced financier.

The tech billionaire became the latest powerful figure linked to Epstein to testify before the House Oversight Committee in a closed-door deposition.

00:07Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates appeared before the House Oversight Committee today
00:12in relation to their probe of Jeffrey Epstein.
00:15The hearing was closed session, but in remarks obtained by the Associated Press,
00:20Gates expressed regret and said that it was a grave error to meet with Epstein.
00:26Gates said that he communicated with Epstein in connection to his philanthropic work
00:30and that Epstein had connections to donors that he was interested in.
00:36Gates was the 15th person to appear before the Republican-led panel as they look into Epstein and his ties.
00:44Lawmakers came from the meeting and said that Gates was largely cooperative.
00:49Lawmakers said that Gates acknowledged that he communicated with Epstein,
00:53but cut off all ties after December 2014.
00:57Some lawmakers said that they pressed Gates on why he still communicated with Epstein
01:01after he pled guilty in 2008.
01:15Both Republican and Democratic lawmakers said that Gates also provided other names
01:20of people in Epstein's world.
01:23The committee and its investigation is ongoing,
01:26and other people are still expected to be called to appear before them.
01:31On Wednesday, Chair James Comer said that he hopes that Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche
01:36will appear before the committee to also answer questions.
01:39There's no known timetable for when it will wrap up.
