00:00Hello everybody, this is Maurice and I'm back for another beer review. Today we're back to mainstream lagers, American lagers.
00:08Today is Coors Light, a light beer that Coors released in 1978 to compete with Miller Light.
00:20They did have a Coors Light in 1941, a lower alcohol Coors, but they abandoned it a year later because
00:31of material shortages in World War II and just concentrated on Coors Banquet beer.
00:36This is a 24-ounce can and it's 4.2% alcohol. So it's pretty cold as they want you
00:50to serve it. Coors is currently the fourth best-selling beer in the United States.
00:58In the mid-90s it moved up to the third highest, but other beers have overtaken it and right now
01:07it's number four behind Modelo Especial, Bud Light, and Michelob Ultra.
01:13So let's open this thing up.
01:23The t-shirt I'm wearing is from a beer from Griffin Claw Brewing in Birmingham, Michigan.
01:34It's a security and finance and it's a New England style hazy IPA.
01:42So we'll start off looking at this beer.
01:46Thick foam head, but really light-colored, highly carbonated.
01:52You can see the bubbles.
01:58Really malty aroma.
02:05And not much in hops at all.
02:12It smells fairly sweet.
02:18All right.
02:28Really thin, as you would expect from a light beer.
02:36Not a lot of flavor.
02:37Kind of dry though in the finish.
02:50Yeah, it's, um, really there's not a lot to this beer.
03:03I mean, it does taste like beer, but, um, once again, they use, use corn syrup.
03:12I wonder if that's something that, uh, Molson Coors is using in their American lagers now,
03:17since, um, Miller High Life has the same, uh, ingredient, which is disappointing.
03:25Corn, like I mentioned in the Miller review, corn syrup doesn't really leave much of a flavor.
03:31It just ferments into alcohol.
03:34It's really disappointing.
03:38But they try to squeeze every penny they can.
03:50Yeah, very thin, thin beer.
03:53Not a lot of flavor.
03:56They're not even that sweet.
03:59Like the aroma had some sweetness to it.
04:08It smelled a little like, um,
04:13like cotton candy-ish almost.
04:26But a definite, uh, thin malt flavor.
04:30Not many hops at all.
04:32Just like the other two with Pabst and Miller High Life.
04:36The, um, just enough hops to keep it from being cloying sweet.
04:44I'll be honest, I, this might be the second time I ever had a Coors Light.
04:49And the first time was probably like 35, 40 years ago.
04:53I have never really drank this beer.
04:56And I was, been never really a light beer drinker, as you can probably assume.
05:02But, um, yeah, it's really, um, they sell a lot of it.
05:09So people like it.
05:12But I can't imagine that much enjoyment from drinking it.
05:19I know Michelob Ultra even sells more than this.
05:22And I'm sure it's even lighter than this beer.
05:33Yeah, one, one weird thing about Coors.
05:37Whereas before they worked out their deal with Molson,
05:41which is kind of funny, considering how light their beers are,
05:45is that, um, when S.A.B. Miller was buying up a bunch of, um,
05:50British brewing companies,
05:53they bought a bunch of different international companies that owned British breweries.
05:58Uh, the U.K. government made them, uh, sell some because they had too much market share.
06:04And Coors ended up buying them.
06:06And so, at one point, Coors was the largest, or the owner of the most brewing in the United Kingdom.
06:14They had the biggest market share.
06:17You would never have thought that Coors would be, uh, big in the U.K.
06:21The beer itself probably isn't, but their brands they owned were.
06:29Well, comes time for the decision.
06:32How low should I rate this?
06:35Um, I'm gonna give it a 5 out of 10.
06:38It's just, there's really nothing here.
06:41It's just a beer-flavored beverage.
06:48I don't want to not, not, uh, knock it.
06:53People love it.
06:54But, um, I don't.
06:57So, I still think PBR is the best, uh, American lager I've had so far.
07:04So, 5 out of 10 for Coors Light.
07:07And don't forget to, uh, like this video.
