Rare pygmy hippo born in Berlin Zoo named Bread Roll

Berlin Zoo has revealed the name of the female pygmy hippopotamus born in May. Broetchen, German for Bread Roll, is the name of the rare mammal, native to West Africa. The calf, born to mother Debbie and father Tobi, weighed 5.9 kg (13 pounds) at birth and has gained weight to now weighing 20 kilograms (44 lbs). Zookeepers are now trying to get the animal used to water. Pygmy hippos are solitary animals, and its mother will raise the calf on her own. In nature only around 2.500 adult pygmy hippopotamus remain, with their habitat threatened by forest clearance.
