A miracle at sea! Against all odds, a 32-year-old Nicaraguan fisherman, Johnny Rodríguez Oporta, has been found alive after his boat capsized due to strong waves off the coast of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. He was discovered clinging to his overturned vessel, the "Quila," a staggering 33 hours after the incident.
Rescued by fellow fishermen near Playa Lagarto, Rodríguez was found approximately two nautical miles offshore. Despite enduring prolonged exposure to the elements and no food or water, initial medical assessments by the Red Cross indicate he is in stable condition, suffering only from dehydration and minor sun burns and bruises.
This incredible survival story highlights the resilience of the human spirit and the bravery of the local fishing community. Rodríguez has been transported to the Santa Cruz health center for further medical evaluation, a testament to the successful collaborative search efforts by the National Coast Guard, Red Cross, and local fishermen.
