00:00And we're back with PHX Radio. I'm Denny Murphy.
00:02I'm Evan Ria.
00:02I'm Lizzo.
00:04Who's here? Lizzo!
00:05We didn't even have to introduce her.
00:07Lizzo, thank you so much for doing the show.
00:10We are obsessed with you.
00:11We are so happy for you in this new era in your career.
00:14Bitch is officially out.
00:15Bitch!
00:16Bitch!
00:16How do you feel about it?
00:17I feel like I've been in labor for like, for three years.
00:22And I finally pushed her out.
00:24No epidural.
00:25Oh, okay.
00:27But she's a beautiful baby girl.
00:29She really is.
00:30We were just telling you about our favorite songs on the album.
00:33I love that girl.
00:34Danny loves She Stole My Man.
00:35Do you have a favorite song?
00:37It changes every day.
00:38Right now, I'm loving sexy ladies.
00:42But I think it's because everyone loves sexy ladies.
00:44And it's so easy to love when it's summer.
00:46Yes.
00:46Well, also, it was just being performed at the Sports Illustrated Chilo Runway.
00:50I was like, that was incredible.
00:51And then also, the bitch bathing suit.
00:53Yes, it was Yiddy.
00:55It was incredible.
00:56That was our Yiddy plunge, like, shaping one piece.
00:59And I felt so sucked in.
01:02And the girls were, the Yiddies were Yiddies.
01:04And I was like, we have to put bitch on this suit.
01:07And we just did it.
01:08Was it so much fun performing there?
01:10Oh, my God.
01:11It was so fun.
01:11It was so crazy because it was raining out of nowhere.
01:14And the runways were slippery as f**k.
01:18And people were slipping and eating sh** all night.
01:21It was so intense.
01:23But we all, everyone was such a good sport.
01:25And everybody just, like, kept pushing through.
01:27I didn't slip.
01:28All the girlies were there.
01:30Was there anyone fun you bumped into, met for the first time that you had never met before?
01:34Oh, my gosh.
01:36I never met Alex Earle.
01:37Is she a vibe?
01:38She's, like, stunning.
01:40A Barbie.
01:41She's so pretty.
01:41Like, I actually couldn't believe what I was looking at.
01:45I was like, damn, b**ch.
01:47I get it.
01:48And, like, to look good in the rain, too.
01:49Right.
01:50I don't have that ability.
01:51Right.
01:52I love, too, because on the insert of the vinyl, too, it says, like, the makings of a b**ch.
01:57And it's mess, queen, sinner, lover, boss.
02:01Today, which one are we the most?
02:02Today, I'm the boss, baby.
02:04That's right.
02:04When I say I'm going off of two hours of sleep, some coffee, and a dream, like, I feel like
02:11I'm super back in my element.
02:13This is where I'm the best version of myself, where I'm just going, going, going.
02:17Have you seen my schedule?
02:18It's at literally 15-minute increments at a time.
02:20Oh, my God, thank you for fitting us in.
02:21I feel like the f**king president.
02:23Not this one, but the one, the other one.
02:25The other one.
02:26Well, especially because you were partying with the gays last night.
02:29Yes.
02:29Oh, hardware.
02:30Just like the president.
02:32That's why I was like, that's how we know you guys are a little different.
02:35How was that?
02:36So fun to be releasing an album during Pride Month, the gays go nuts for you, and you go nuts
02:40for the gays.
02:40It really synergized so perfectly.
02:44Like, this album could not have dropped at a more perfect time.
02:47I cannot wait to go to Pride and, like, play my music and just, like, celebrate.
02:52Like, because that's what this album is all about.
02:54Yeah.
02:55Oh, my God.
02:55And the title track, Bitch, you sample Meredith Brooks, which is, I mean, just so genius.
03:01I was telling Danny earlier, I feel like we, as a society, don't show enough love to that song.
03:05Did you always know that you wanted to kind of, like, do your own version of that song?
03:09Like, have you loved that song forever?
03:10Like, how did this come to be?
03:11I sing that song randomly, you know, because it's so iconic.
03:15Like, I'm a bitch.
03:17I'm a, like, it just comes out of me.
03:19But I never, you know, I'm a big, like, snob when it comes to writing music because I'm such a
03:24songwriter, songwriter.
03:25So everything has to be original.
03:27I don't like to overly sample.
03:29I don't like to do obvious samples, obvious interpolations.
03:32But when we were working on this, we had the Missy Elliott, she's a bitch sample.
03:37And so we were going through it.
03:38And I wrote the song.
03:40I wrote everything.
03:41I wrote the hook.
03:42The hook was the bridge originally.
03:44And we had no bridge.
03:46And I was like, I was like, all right, boy, sit back, watch this.
03:49I was like, roll that bridge.
03:50It came in.
03:50I was like, I'm a bitch.
03:52I'm a lover.
03:53And the whole room fell out.
03:55And I was like, we got to make this the chorus, don't we?
03:58I'm like, we paying for this.
03:59We pay for this sample, baby.
04:00We milk it.
04:02It was so obvious.
04:03And this was like, it was a big deal to me.
04:06It was a big deal for me to do that.
04:08And I'm just so happy and so honored that she cleared it.
04:12And Missy cleared it.
04:13And now it's just three bad bitches on a bad bitch song.
04:17I love it, yes.
04:17And you were talking about the songwriting.
04:19And I mean, because so many of the songs are so fun.
04:21Like, we were dancing while listening to them.
04:22But some of the lyrics, I'm like, you open up.
04:24And you're talking about how it was like, checks on me, but no one checks on me.
04:28And you're opening kind of being more vulnerable about how you are, from the outside, it's
04:32like you are such a boss bitch.
04:34But like that, you're like, okay, so I'm even a boss bitch like someone to ask, how are you
04:37doing?
04:38Hello.
04:39Yeah.
04:39I didn't give myself a happy ending on some of these songs.
04:42And you know, some people might think that that means I'm less empowering, but I think
04:46that means I'm even more empowered, you know, because to be empowered means that you assert
04:52yourself and to be, and you're honest and you're raw and you're real.
04:55And I think after all these years of empowering bitches, I deserve to be empowered.
04:59Hello.
05:00So let me, let me make some songs where I don't have a happy ending and y'all lift me
05:04up.
05:05I love that because you really do have so many mantras for so many people.
05:08Like my friend, she was a little drunk when she did this, but she still loves it.
05:12She literally got a hundred percent that bitch tattooed on her on Easter.
05:15She FaceTimed me.
05:16She's like, is that a good idea?
05:17I was like, I know you love that song.
05:18Maybe sleep on it.
05:19Oh my God.
05:20But she hasn't said, you're a hater.
05:22You're a hundred percent that hater.
05:24And I love her.
05:25I need to see a picture of this.
05:26It is an honor to be somebody's drunken tattoo.
05:29Like my heart is racing right now.
05:31I mean, you are, you are such an inspiration to so many people, lots of girls and gays.
05:35How does it feel to kind of be the face of, you know, body positivity and self-confidence
05:40and all of that?
05:40Is it, is it still a responsibility?
05:42Does it ever feel like a burden or do you just like love it so much?
05:45I had to release myself of a lot of things.
05:48Like I, there was a lot of things that I represented that I felt like, oh my gosh, if
05:52I change, how will this make people feel?
05:55And I realized I wasn't living my life and I was doing a lot of things and I was like,
06:00man,
06:00like, I don't, I want to be this.
06:02I want to change.
06:02I want to evolve.
06:03I want to grow.
06:04And I think that that is what body positivity is, is allowing yourself to evolve and change
06:08and grow, loving yourself at every stage.
06:11Like, you know, when you, when your body gets older and it changes and you know, you drink
06:15too much in the next day, you a little swollen, a little pudgy, you know, like loving yourself
06:20and still feeling good in that body is what it's about.
06:23We're just dealing with feeling what you feel in that body.
06:26So I think that just by existing, I'm still always wanting to be body positive, but now
06:31I'm not taking on the responsibility or the burden of, of not changing and not evolving
06:37to make other people feel comfortable.
06:39Also because like, it's your body.
06:40So you could do whatever the hell you want to do with it too.
06:42Hello.
06:43So I feel it's kind of, and you're like the real fans and people who love you will understand
06:47and change because everyone changes and evolves every day too.
06:50So they'll be able to change with you and see like, oh my God, Liz was living so many
06:53different lives, which is exciting.
06:54You know, today I met a lot of my fans and I heard so many different stories.
06:58There were people who showed me pictures of them when they met me and they were in a bigger
07:02body and I was in a bigger body and we both lost weight.
07:05And it was like, we both lost weight.
07:07And I was like, I'm so proud of you, you know?
07:09And then there was other people who were in a bigger body and they were like, thank you.
07:12I'm wearing a crop top today because of you.
07:14So it's like my real fans don't give a f*** about all of that.
07:18Oh, I love that.
07:18They love me.
07:19Right.
07:20Of course.
07:20And how has your relationship with public feedback, how has that evolved when the haters
07:25do come out of the woodwork and they got something to say?
07:27I am a liberated woman.
07:29I got roasted by Kevin Hart and some of the most craziest comedians of all time.
07:37And I feel like now there's nothing I haven't heard and you can't hurt my feelings by a comment
07:42on the internet, bitch.
07:43She's bulletproof.
07:44Because when I saw you were doing the roast, I was like, oh my, because I, those roasts
07:47are fun to watch at times, but I'm like, I would crumble.
07:51How was, was there ever, were you going to say no or were you like, I'm just going to
07:54do this, it's going to be fun?
07:55No, I always said I was just going to do it.
07:57I don't take myself serious.
07:58And I think the public thinks I do take like, that I get so hurt and up because I've cried
08:04all live a couple of times, but people don't know why I really be crying all live.
08:08It don't be from a, hey, you're fat comment.
08:10Like, I don't care about that.
08:12Like, obvious things are not like hurtful.
08:17It's like, oh, you have a blonde wig on.
08:20Okay.
08:21Like, okay, bitch.
08:22Like, you're like, oh my God, I do?
08:24So now it's like, I feel so empowered by it because to be able to laugh, you know, at
08:29yourself with everyone in front of the world, it's like, man, you're bulletproof.
08:33I love that.
08:34I am kind of curious.
08:35You mentioned astrology a few times in several songs on this album.
08:38I think you're Venus is in Gemini.
08:39It is.
08:40Okay.
08:40So I'm kind of, so you guys, wow, that is, I love that for you.
08:44I know.
08:45Oh, yes, I will let him know you said that.
08:47But I'm kind of wondering how important is astrology to you and your relationships, you
08:52know, both friendships and romantic relationships, because I was just thinking about that recent
08:55interview that Billie Eilish did, and she was like, I didn't believe in astrology until
08:59I dated a Gemini.
09:00So what is your relationship with astrology?
09:02I'm with a Gemini.
09:04You are?
09:04Me too.
09:04I'm married to a Gemini.
09:05Good for us.
09:06I like it.
09:07What's your sign?
09:07I'm into it.
09:07I'm an Aquarius.
09:08Oh, great.
09:09Wait, what are you?
09:10Fun.
09:11Taurus.
09:11Taurus.
09:12Oh, two Tauruses.
09:13Oh, Taurus would mean a Gemini.
09:14Taurus would mean a Gemini.
09:15We're never wrong.
09:16Oh, no, literally never.
09:18You can try.
09:20You can try, but then you're just an idiot.
09:21Okay.
09:22You know, like, wait, what was the question?
09:27How important is astrology to you, Lizzo?
09:29It's really important.
09:30It really is.
09:32But, you know, I feel like historically, two signs that weren't spot, like Taurus and Gemini
09:38are not really supposed to be together, but we have, like, so much synergy.
09:43Like, he has a Taurus Venus.
09:45I have a Gemini Venus.
09:47Oh, there you go.
09:47So, we have these, like, strange parallels that connect us on a cosmic level.
09:51And I do think that, like, with astrology, I always know how our relationship is going
09:55to go.
09:56Friendship, work ship, anything.
09:58Once I know what your sign is, I'm like, I know how this is going to pan out.
10:01Is there one sign you don't love?
10:03I would say Aries.
10:04Okay.
10:05They can be a lot.
10:06I know where that's going to go.
10:08Aries and Sagittarius, it's not that I don't love y'all.
10:11It's just that I know where this is headed.
10:13Like, y'all are going to bully me.
10:17So, you know the challenges ahead.
10:18What is the most Taurus quality about you?
10:20I love to lay down.
10:22Yes.
10:23My man will be like, you know two things about you.
10:25You love to eat and you love to lay down.
10:28I say, yeah, honey.
10:29And being right.
10:30Hello.
10:31Exactly.
10:33I'm a queen.
10:34That's right.
10:35Unfortunately for you, but fortunately for all of your fans, there is no time really to
10:38lay down because you are going to be very, very busy because bitch is out now.
10:43Bitch.
10:44Also, the middle finger as the cover is the best thing I've ever seen.
10:46Thank you so much.
10:47Can I please get some love for this cover?
10:49Oh, my God.
10:50Everyone's talking about my ashy cuticles.
10:51Fuck you.
10:53Leave your ashy cuticles alone.
10:55Oh, my God, guys.
10:56Bitch is out now.
10:57Lizzo, thank you so much for taking time to talk to us.
10:59This was a dream.
11:00We're going to take a quick break.
11:01Back with more Page Six Radio.
11:02Don't go anywhere.
11:02You're going to take a quick break.
11:02Bye.
11:03Bye.
11:03Bye.
11:03Bye.
11:04Bye.
11:04Bye.
