Keke Palmer on not being in an employee mindset and emphasizing collaboration: "I’m always trying to work from a point of being an entrepreneur and a creator. You know, collaborating with the brand, or collaborating with the company, or collaborating with the studio… I don’t want to make it sound like it’s just about I’m free…I just believe in this world where we are not constantly put in an employee mindset, but we’re able to actually work side by side and make sure the things we are working with are also going along with the goals that we have set for ourselves."

00:00It's also the way that I think that I still work in this industry is I'm always trying to work
00:05from a point of being an entrepreneur and a creator and, you know, collaborating with the brand or collaborating with
00:11the company or collaborating with the studio.
00:13Because it allows me to it's not just just I don't want to make it sound like it's just about
00:18I'm free, but it's it's also about like, how do I put it into words?
00:23It's kind of one of these things where it's like, I just believe in this world where we are not
00:29constantly putting an employee mindset, but we're able to actually work side by side and make sure that the things
00:36that we are working with are also going along with the goals that we have set for ourselves.
00:40And I think for a young at a young age, my mom made me look at it that way.
00:44Even if I was looking at a big brand like a Disney or Nickelodeon, she said, this is is this
00:48company serving you, too.
00:50And if they can only service you in this one category, then work with them in this category and then
00:54work with them in this other category.
00:56And that's still how I believe in how I work. I think it's fair because it's like, yeah, I want
01:01to work and collaborate with anybody.
01:02But it's a give and a take. And I think a lot of times we're put in a position, especially
01:05as talent or especially if we're working with a major company or something that we don't have a voice in
01:10that regard.
01:10And I think you've got to be clear about what you have leverage on and how you can do things.
01:14But you should always be able to say, well, this isn't I don't know if it's all the way this,
01:18but I can get down with this.
01:20And that's what my relationship was with Nickelodeon and Disney Channel for years.
01:24You know, I never was with a TV show with any of them.
01:26You know, it can be different when you start getting into a TV show.
01:28Right. Once I did my TV show, True Jackson, VP, it was like I was with Nickelodeon.
01:32I kind of made my choice of who I was getting married to.
01:35But before then, it's like if you want to do a movie, then we just doing a movie.
01:38If you want to do a soundtrack, we just doing a soundtrack.
01:41You know what I mean? Until something steps up to what I feel is is comparable.
