00:00A headless torso in a suitcase at railway station, a severed head dumped in a lake,
00:05and a barcode on a pair of trousers that helped crack the case.
00:09This isn't a crime thriller, it's the real-life murder mystery of Amir Ali from Assam.
00:15The mystery began on June 5th, when an abandoned suitcase at Chennai's Perambur railway station
00:20was found containing a decomposed torso.
00:23There was no head, no identity, almost no clues.
00:27Except one, a pair of trousers still on the body.
00:30Police scanned the barcode stitched onto the garment.
00:34That tiny strip of black lines led them to a shop in Tienagar,
00:38and from there, to the mobile number of the purchaser.
00:41The phone's location history revealed frequent trips between Tienagar and Tenampet.
00:45Why Tenampet?
00:47Investigators discovered that the phone user regularly visited a cancer hospital there.
00:51When police showed photographs of the suitcase to hospital staff,
00:54they identified a woman caregiver, known for bringing patients for treatment.
00:59Then came another clue.
01:00Near the crime scene, officers recovered red and yellow plastic bags.
01:04These were traced to a hospital in Taramani.
01:07The net was tightened.
01:09CCTV footage then captured a suspicious Rapido auto rickshaw.
01:13Investigators tracked its route, matched it with booking records,
01:16and finally arrived at a residence in Tienampet.
01:19One clue led to another.
01:21A barcode, a phone number, hospital visits, plastic bags, CCTV footage, Rapido data.
01:27Together, they led police to two suspects,
01:30Amir's wife Rahima Khatun and her friend Asraf Ali.
01:33According to police, Rahima alleged that Amir was involved with other women and frequently assaulted her.
01:39She had shared these allegations with Asraf,
01:41after which the two allegedly conspired to kill him.
01:44Police say the duo mixed sleeping pills into Amir's milk, slit his throat after he lost consciousness,
01:50dismembered the body and scattered the remains across Chennai.
01:53The torso was abandoned at Pirambur station.
01:56The arms and legs were dumped in the Buckingham Canal.
01:59And days later, the missing head was recovered from Kolawai Lake in Chengalpat.
