00:00This was a horrific, violent, brutal knife attack that occurred just behind me in the
00:06early hours of this morning, last night. I condemn it outright. I think everybody is
00:10right to come out and condemn this in the strongest possible terms. My concern is with
00:14the victim. He has suffered brutal and devastating injuries. He's in hospital. He's receiving
00:20good attention and care. But my thoughts are obviously with him, with his family and friends
00:24who would have woken up to the news that their loved one was attacked so viciously and now
00:28so publicly. I also just want to take a moment to talk to the people who intervened last night,
00:34to those members of the public who put their own lives at risk to, I think, save a man's life.
00:39I want to thank them. I want to thank them on behalf of everybody of North Belfast and I think
00:43that sentiment is shared right across the board. Their actions were heroic and were exceptionally
00:49courageous. And I also want to take a moment to acknowledge those who witnessed this from this
00:53community last night. Also those police officers and ambulance service members who responded to
00:58the scene. But we now have a man in custody. Police are not looking at anybody else in relation to
01:03this attack. I want to see the police having the best and most thorough investigation possible.
