00:12Tiwah is one of the traditional rituals of the Dayak Ngaju tribe in Central Kalimantan.
00:17Tiwah is a death ceremony held for someone who has died and is placed in a runi or coffin.
00:24Generally, the Ngaju Dayak people adhere to local beliefs, namely keharingan.
00:29For them, death is the initial stage for humans to reach the eternal world, namely the spirit world.
00:35They believe that people who have died will change form into spirits, which are called liau.
00:41This Liau must be delivered to the lewutatau or spirit world in the tiwah process.
00:47Apart from ensuring that the bereaved family can rest in peace, the aim of this process is also to protect the family from illness and misfortune.
00:54Tiwah is one of the biggest rituals of the Ngaju Dayak people,
