00:03Amigos de Diario de las Américas, me encuentro con Joe Tasslin, uno de los protagonistas de The Furious.
00:08Your daughter, she might still be alive.
00:16Joe, what a ride this movie is.
00:19The action is absolutely out of this world.
00:22When you first read the screenplay, what made you fall in love with this project?
00:26What made me fall in love with this project is the character they offered me, Naveen, has great balance with
00:36drama performance and action performance.
00:40And then as a father of three kids, I feel I have responsibility to convey the message of this movie.
00:49And then knowing that human trafficking and trafficking is still happening all over the world.
00:55Working with the best people that know what they're doing.
00:58All these action legends, Bill Kong, Kenji, Kensuke.
01:02And I believe we can have, you know, we could.
01:06We could and we can deliver an action movie that also has a strong message.
01:12And then for people to be aware of this issue.
01:17So am I.
01:18My wife won't miss it.
01:24In the same spirit, when you read it on page, which sequence scares you the most?
01:31I think the final fight, the five-way fight is always something like, not just me.
01:38I think all of us on the same page that the final fight, when we were reading it, we were
01:43kind of like, is it possible?
01:45You know, but this is like how I think people probably going to get confused because the storytelling inside the
01:51fight is like,
01:53where are people going to like, you know, follow, you know, who's they going to follow?
01:57And then the thing is, Kenji managed to make all those characters so important equally.
02:06And then are they going to like siding on Wang Wei and Naveen or going to siding on Joey and
02:15Yayan?
02:16And then not just that, after that, another character joined the fight, ruined all the dynamic,
02:22made it more complex, but at the same time, so beautiful and artistic.
02:28So, I mean, the ambition to tell that story inside the fight and the fight itself, it was so hard.
02:36It was so hard to do, trying to have the synergy of five people and the cameraman inside the fight
02:45as well,
02:45trying to capture all those motions.
02:48So, it was something that I thought, like, either we nailed this one or we don't.
02:55It's not going to be in between.
02:57And thank God that we did it.
03:03You have a lot of one-on-one fights, but all the movie, it's like a very complex choreography with
03:09a large, a lot of people.
03:11How much was, how long was the training and the rehearsal process to do this, like, beautiful choreography that every
03:19sequence is?
03:20I was there for three months, more or less.
03:24And then the preps itself, more technicals.
03:28I think Kenji told each one of us to train ourselves before we flew to Bangkok.
03:34And I did my training, I, you know, I just, I got to make sure I'm ready for it.
03:41So, I trained my stamina, my endurance.
03:44So, by the time I got there, we were just focusing on technicalities and storytelling inside the fight and building
03:50chemistry with everybody before the five-way fight.
03:53And the five-way fight, luckily, the five-way fight happened at the end of the movie.
03:58So, before we wrapped, that's still the last scene that we had to shoot.
04:03So, by the time it got there, we were already built strong chemistry.
04:08So, all actors were close, you know, lunch together, train together for three months.
04:13And then all we had to focus just how to understand that complex design and to really support one another
04:24and to really try, you know, really give 110% to Kenji and Kensuke Sonomura that we able to sing
04:34the song they wrote.
04:37And then when Kenji and Kensuke Sonomura also, they're great leaders in the process, you know, the collaboration went so
04:44smooth.
04:45And no one really feel that it's all about me, it's all about one person.
04:51Everybody felt that this is like we working together for one goal to create a fight scene that's going to
05:00change the action genre in a beautiful way
05:03and then elevate action genre to another level.
05:14Talking about collaboration, how did you work together with Miao Sei to create this dance-like sensation where both are
05:22perfectly synced?
05:23Because a lot of choreography are side-by-side with him.
05:26Yeah.
05:27A beautiful thing about Xie Miao, Miao Sei, or Xie Miao, pronounced Xie Miao in Chinese.
05:33So Xie Miao, he's a very talented martial artist, actor, but that also, but that comes sometimes, you know, very
05:45talented people, very hard to work with,
05:46but he's a different beast, you know, he's super humble, and he always want to learn, you know,
05:52and working with him, building chemistry with him, especially like this is type of duo movie, like a body movie.
06:00If the audience doesn't feel the connection between both of them, then the movie is very hard to go forward.
06:06So I'm grateful that I got to work with an amazing, talented actor, human being,
06:14and then we managed to deliver, to convey the storytelling, and then the body between these two characters
06:23that audience could feel, could relate to it deeply.
06:37Yeah, I got to watch it on a big screen, guys.
06:40Furious, this movie doesn't come, like, every year.
06:44This type of movie comes once in 10 years.
06:47It's that rare, because it's a dream team.
06:52Kenji's, Kenji's, Kenji's, Bill Kong, Edco Films, Lionsgate, distributing all over the world,
06:56and then all actors involved are super passionate.
06:59And then we give our heart, we bleed for it.
07:04And once you watch the movie, and you realize how much work and heart we poured to this one,
07:11and then this movie is going to change how you watch action movies,
07:14and how you appreciate action even more after that.
07:19And then we'll see you next time.
