00:09Hi, my name is Jocelyn Martin Lynch and I was born into a big beautiful Cuban
00:13family in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Today I'm an award-winning producer and I live in
00:18California where I'm turning my energy into making an important documentary
00:22film about my Cuban roots and about what's happening at this very important
00:26moment in history. In starting to pre-film I realized just how complicated Cuba was
00:32as a subject matter even for someone like me who was just curious about her
00:35heritage. Half of my family says of course you should go to Cuba the other half is
00:40dead set against it. On February 1st of this year I was flying back from the
00:43Sundance Film Festival in Utah and I was thinking about life and kind of
00:47pondering on how life is so short and then I realized I have both of my
00:51parents still alive and my four grandparents are still alive. My
00:56grandparents are between 83 and 89 years old. Everyone was born in Cuba and
01:00they're very American now but in that moment not only did I realize how
01:04incredibly lucky I was but how I needed to tell this story. This film is about
01:09bicultural identity across four generations. It's about the American
01:13dream, about freedom, about yearning, about country and about searching for
01:19identity. Follow me on this journey to discover identity and all the while try
01:23and avoid any political obstacles that might get in the way. I have a five-time
01:27Emmy award-winning crew ready to film this documentary because they believe in the
01:31project. With the $15,000 raised we'll use the money to travel to Texas, New
01:36Jersey, of course Miami and maybe even Cuba. My goal is to submit this film once
01:43it's done to film festivals all over the world and especially the Sundance Film
01:46festival which inspired this amazing journey. Thank you so much.
