00:07The End
00:29Filmed by Warner Brothers entirely in new technicolor
00:32against the majestic grandeur of California's Sacramento Valley,
00:35this enthralling drama tells the vivid story
00:38of the great gold boom of 1877,
00:40when hydraulic mining laid open a new treasure
00:43of gleaming gold in the hills of California.
00:45The pick and pan of the 49ers
00:47has given way to the great SWAT machines,
00:50the monster monitors of hydraulic mining,
00:53ripping into the earth
00:54in the never-ending quest for gold,
00:56gold, and still more gold.
00:58Muck and refuse from the mines
01:00are dumped into the streams,
01:02flooding and destroying the gold and wheat empire
01:04in the valleys below.
01:05The ranchers protest, but invade,
01:07for gold is king once more in California,
01:10and where there is gold,
01:12men are going to get it.
01:13Faced with ruin,
01:14the wheat ranchers arm unorganized
01:16to repel the invasion of the miners.
01:18Overnight,
01:19peaceful Sacramento Valley becomes a battle camp,
01:21bristling with armament,
01:23ringing with the angry cries of frenzy-fighting men.
01:26And in San Francisco,
01:27the Paris of the frontier,
01:29gilded bars and cabarets blaze and flare.
01:31The greed for gold spreads like wildfire,
01:34filling the stock exchange with money-mad speculators.
01:37The mine barons take desperate measures
01:39to stop the embattled wheat ranchers.
01:41If they want to fight,
01:42they're going to get it.
01:43Whitney, you get up there and hold them off,
01:44even if you have to shoot.
01:45Can't do it, McCoy.
01:46It would mean open war.
01:47I've strung with you as long as you're acting legally.
01:50When it comes to rebelling against the law
01:51and planning wholesale murder, I'm through.
01:53For you, these mountains are just something
01:55to be used and thrown away.
01:57Perhaps.
01:59But gold is where you find it, Serena.
02:02Yes, gold is where you find it.
02:04With drama as men hunt for gold.
02:07Action as men fight for gold.
02:09Violence as men die for gold.
02:12Romance as men find gold.
02:15Mr. Whitney, I'm giving you warning
02:16to keep away from here and to keep away from Serena.
02:19Well, would you mind explaining just why, sir?
02:21I'll tell you that I'm not going to have
02:23a fortune-hunting miner hanging around my daughter.
02:28Gentlemen, wait.
02:29I believe in law and order.
02:31But the only way we'll get law this time
02:33is through the muzzle end of a rifle.
02:34What do you want to do?
02:35I say take a gang up there with guns
02:37and clear them up.
02:38that's better than ever.
03:07I say take a gang up there, sir.
03:08THE END
