00:00We got ourselves a hog!
00:03Welcome to my very first YouTube video. I'm Carissa Dives. I'm happy you guys are watching.
00:09Right now we're just putting over to some patch reefs and I'm just going super slow so I don't
00:14scare all the fish away. I stopped about a I would say quarter mile back and now we're just
00:19floating over there. Then we're gonna drop anchor and go hog dogging. I see you guys are really
00:25loving the shorts and I've had a lot of comments saying I need longer videos so I'm super glad
00:29you guys are loving the shorts and I want you guys to get to know me a little better so
00:33I'm
00:33taking you along for the ride with some YouTube videos from now on. So we got super lucky this
00:38week with gorgeous weather. The visibility has been amazing. No currents really. Sun's out so you know
00:45what that means. We're getting in the water. So I'm just looking at the sonar looking at the bottom
00:49what's going on. Trying to find some grouper holes or you know just any coral heads that are gonna
00:56attract hog fish grouper. I just want life. I want to go get something to eat for dinner. So as
01:01you can
01:01see we're only in about nine feet of water so it's nice little shallow spot to drop down. We're gonna
01:08see if we can find anything that's of size to keep. So looking over the boat right now we're in
01:13some
01:13seagrass so I'm just gonna keep putting around where you see the lighter shades of the water.
01:18That's gonna be more sand in the area. It's looking like we got some nice coral heads and sea fans
01:23down
01:23there. So I'm gonna go drop the anchor and we're gonna catch some stuff. I'll bring you guys along
01:27with me. We don't have a wind list but dropping the anchor is not hard especially when in the
01:32Florida Keys you can come out three miles from shore and go catch whatever you want. Super convenient.
01:37Hogfish season opened in May and I can already tell that they're getting pretty picked through. You
01:41know the longer I come out here the longer it gets into summer. I can see the hogfish are getting
01:46smaller and smaller. Getting a little picked through but that's not gonna stop us from finding some
01:50keepers. Getting my little water socks on. I used to wear nothing in my free diving fins and I would
01:56get the worst blisters. So we're switching things up today. We're not spearfishing. We're using this
02:01little baby pink and gold fishing pole. Super cute. Look at that. We got our little hook at the end.
02:07Actually lights up but I'm sure once we get that in the water it's gonna stop real quick.
02:11I'm gonna put a little piece of shrimp at the end and hop in the water.
02:20First I'm just scoping out the area trying to find my first culprit. There he is. Now I'm gonna
02:25hand line a shrimp right in front of his face and see if he'll take it. Sometimes you gotta be
02:29a little
02:30patient but this boy is hungry. And bang there we go we got him. And before anyone asks yes that's
02:37a
02:37male hogfish that black spot behind the pectoral fin is one of the easiest ways to tell. There's an ugly
02:42barracuda down there. I gotta make sure I'm all good. But we got ourselves a hog.
02:50Now this time around hogdogging was a bit of a rookie mistake. I had the drag set way too loose
02:55so as soon as the hogfish ate my shrimp he booked it under the rock and couldn't get him out
03:02of it.
03:02So I ended up just deciding it's best to leave my pole down there for a second so I can
03:07come up and get
03:07some air. Wait for him to pull himself out of it. And then now we're good so grabbed him out
03:14from
03:14there and this one's just a baby so gonna throw him right back in.
03:22Now this nurse shark would not leave me alone. He kept following me around being super nosy so
03:27I decided it's best to toss the pole and shrimp back into the boat.
03:30That boy is searching for any food he can get.
03:35I thought maybe he would have disappeared after a few minutes but nope he was still sticking around.
03:48Had to put my hand down for a second. That thing was getting a little too nosy.
03:53It definitely smells the shrimp on my gloves. So I hopped back in did a little scan around
03:59fully thought the shark was gone but it was not. Next thing you know I turned around came out of
04:04nowhere and I start swimming backwards and it just keeps coming towards my fins. So obviously I hit
04:09record and I'm trying to get a cool video but I think it's time to get out of the water.
04:13This one's
04:14too attracted to me it's weird. I've never seen such a curious nurse shark just trying to keep coming
04:19at me. Must have known it was my birthday. Thank you guys for watching this video. I hope you enjoyed
04:24it. It's only a sneak peek little glimpse of what we're going to be doing this summer. It's going to
04:27get crazy. Comment down below what type of videos you're interested in seeing and like and subscribe.
