33:38On August 27, 1994, Shane Douglas won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship,
33:48only to throw it down and create a new title, the ECW Heavyweight Championship of the World.
34:02On April 15, 1995, at the Three-Way Dance, the franchise lost the belt to the Sandman,
34:11who won the title with the help of a woman.
34:25The Sandman brutalized all challengers, but in an upset victory, Mikey Whitbrick became the Heavyweight Champion of the World later
34:38that year.
34:45On December 9 of that year, Mikey Whitbrick defended the title at the ECW Arena against the Sandman and Steve
34:55Austin in a three-way dance.
34:57Steve Austin and the Sandman, two beer-guzzling anti-heroes, fought it out for the ECW World Heavyweight title,
35:08and the Sandman emerged victorious and became a two-time ECW Heavyweight Champion of the World.
35:25But right around the corner was lurking Raven.
35:30And Raven, fresh off of losing Beulah McGillicuddy to Tommy Dreamer, vowed to take out the Sandman.
35:38And so he did. Raven DDT'd his way to his first ECW World Title reign.
36:05It was later that year in an Ultimate Jeopardy match that Raven allowed Stevie Richards to put the title at
36:13risk.
36:14And Stevie Richards, mixed with the Singapore Kane, allowing the Sandman to become a three-time ECW World Heavyweight Champion.
36:44But just a few months later, in a barbed wire matchup, Raven reclaimed the belt that he had never lost.
37:00It was at our very first pay-per-view, barely legal, April 13th, 1997, that Tommy Dreamer got his revenge
37:09on Raven and helped Terry Funk win the World Heavyweight title.
37:17But the 53-year-old legend fell victim in another barbed wire match.
37:24This one, the most brutal of all time. Born to be wired, Sabu won the belt.
37:34Just a week later, still battered and bloodied from the barbed wire match, Sabu fell victim to the curse of
37:42the three-way dance, and Shane Douglas regained the title.
37:46His manager, Ravishing Rick Rude, set Douglas up.
37:53And in Queens, New York City, on October 16th, 1997, Bam Bam Bigelow won his very first World Heavyweight title
38:05by defeating the franchise at the Madhouse of Xtreme.
38:15At the 1997 November to remember, Shane Douglas regained the gold in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
38:25But the pressures of being the champion caught up to Shane Douglas, and on January 10th, 1999, in Kissimmee, Florida,
38:37at the guilty-as-charged pay-per-view, an injured Shane Douglas finally fell victim to the Katahajime, and the
38:48era of Taz was rushed in.
38:55September 19th, September 19th, the Anarchy Rules pay-per-view, Chicago, Illinois, an impromptu three-way dance.
39:04Mike also pins not only the ECW and FTW World Champion, Taz, but goes on to defeat the FMW World
39:16Champion, Masato Tanaka.
39:21But it was on ECW's Christmas Eve, TNN Network Spectacular, that Masato Tanaka takes back for revenge.
39:43At the historic Municipal Auditorium in downtown Nashville, Tennessee, Masato Tanaka, the 26-year-old grappler from Japan, finally realized
39:58his dream when he upset Mike Gotham for the ECW.
40:23But the war, the war between Tanaka and Awesome was far from over, because tonight, at the Westchester County Center,
40:33in White Plains, New York, Mike Gotham showed he had the stuff that true championship made of.
40:41He came back from defeat, he rebounded from his loss to become a two-time ECW World Heavyweight Champion.
