00:00Rahim was not only a saint poet, he was a fairly well-to-do person.
00:04He was one of the nine gems of Akbar's court.
00:07He had decent money.
00:08And it is said that once every year, he would give away most of what he had.
00:13And he would simply become free of possessions.
00:16Now it was noticed that when he would be giving away things,
00:19he would simply keep his head bowed down,
00:22not even raise his eyes to look at the face of the person he was giving to.
00:25Somebody asked him, what are you doing?
00:27Don't you want to know whom you are benefiting?
00:30He said, I feel ashamed in giving.
00:33The fellow said, why?
00:34He said, because I am just giving away that which has come to me.
00:38It is not really mine.
00:40But all the credit is coming to me.
00:42That's what makes me feel ashamed.
00:44It has been a tradition in India that when you donate,
00:48you bow down to the one you are donating to for this reason.
00:51He has done you a favor by accepting your donation.
00:55Only in your total inner fullness can you really give.
