00:02And Taiwan has a unique opportunity to step in and play a leadership role
00:07If the government is ultimately not able to support that
00:12It means Taiwan's rise will probably be slower than it could have been
00:15And it perhaps provides opportunity for other countries to fill the void faster
00:20You know, Korea, Vietnam, Japan, European countries
00:26They're all investing
00:28I think the war in Ukraine has opened up many people's eyes
00:33To the future of autonomous systems broadly
00:39FPV drones, first person drones are the number one source to play badly
00:43In the Russian-Ukraine war
00:47So I think that's changing a lot of minds about the number of systems
00:52That are going to be required in the future of warfare
00:55Obviously the United States is taking a lot of efforts
00:57To have its own indigenous production to re-industrialize and build
01:00But you can't do it alone
01:02We're going to need allies
01:04We hope that and are working to ensure that Taiwan is one of those leaders
01:09If not the leader
01:11But you know, if the government's not ultimately supportive of that
01:17That could be problematic
01:18Now I will say I have met many government leaders here who are very enthusiastically supportive
01:23You know, including the Lai administration
01:25Including the Vice President today
01:28The Foreign Minister yesterday with the Ministry of Economic Affairs
01:30Who are very supportive of the Taiwanese government's efforts here
01:35I met with the mayor of Taichung yesterday
01:40And I think she is very supportive of the concept
01:43I think, you know, obviously from the opposition party right now
01:46You know, I think there's some politics at play
01:50That I won't comment on Taiwanese politics
01:51But I think she also recognizes the importance of that special budget
01:55To her community in Taichung
01:58Because there's such a strong manufacturing base there
02:01AITC, Thunder Tiger and other companies are all based there
02:03And they see real opportunities
02:05So obviously there's a lot of domestic politics at play
02:10But ultimately this is about Taiwan's self-determination
02:14And future
02:14And your economic competitiveness
02:16And your national security
02:17So we're hopeful that this gets done
