Transcript
00:01It's one of the craziest, most salacious stories
00:04to ever come out of the porn industry.
00:09We have never seen anything like this, the violence.
00:12His head was nearly decapitated.
00:15He was stabbed 28 times to his groin area.
00:18The story of the Cobra video murder was such a big deal,
00:22they even made a movie about it
00:23starring James Franco and Christian Slater.
00:25But I don't think many people know the whole story.
00:28It involves murder, it involves greed, jealousy.
00:33It was horrible.
00:34I wish my brother never met him.
00:36Most of us use our bodies to make a living.
00:40Whether you're a waitress or a porn star,
00:43but that doesn't usually end in murder and fire.
00:53Beauty can be power.
00:54It can get you attention, and it can make you rich.
00:59But if you're not careful, it can destroy you.
01:03I just don't know why I tell you.
01:15On January 24, 2007, at around 9.30 p.m.,
01:19our 911 Center received a call from a resident on Midland Drive
01:22that there was a house on fire.
01:26our neighbors had called then called 9-1-1 when he started seeing smoke coming out of the house
01:33the homeowner's vehicle was parked in the driveway but they didn't see the homeowner outside
01:38it took them about two two and a half hours to completely suppress the fire
01:44i went out and met with the fire chief at the time the house was still smoking and we had
01:50walked up
01:50to a big plate glass window and looked inside the window and saw a deceased male laying on the
01:56couch who was severely burned with his throat slashed almost decapitated in addition he was
02:05stabbed 28 times to his torso and the groin area it was a brutal killing state police knew he was
02:12killed before the fire was set dental records were used to identify the body and the body was
02:17identified as the homeowner brian coaches he was 44 years old this was unheard of in dallas township
02:25we have never seen anything like this the violence i don't know if there's been a case
02:31quite since like that hope there's never is
02:44my brother brian was an amazing person i looked up to him he always took care of me he took
02:51care of me
02:52like a second father would as he was younger he was very social he liked to be involved
03:00in scouts that's when he started his photography and he was involved in church
03:06i was best friends with brian for most of our lives he was pretty much known for his hair never
03:11being out
03:11of place he had a good sense of humor he always wanted to get him to be into photography
03:17his photography was so amazing i would describe his personality as very focused when he wanted
03:24something he made it happen brian went to college and he got his degree in medical photography as he
03:32went to college he did have a girlfriend she was around for a while and then when it didn't work
03:36out
03:36after some of us kind of maybe suspected in the family you know impossible that he was gay
03:44when he did finally come out it was devastating to him but it was his own fears and that he
03:51just
03:51didn't want to hurt my parents they don't want to disappoint them we still loved him and we all said
03:57we wish we knew because we love him that much i had told him that i i had loved him
04:05no matter what he
04:06wanted to do with his life after college his first job was at an eye clinic where he
04:13was in medical photography so that's when he started to think that photography and pornography
04:21was a better route that would make him more money and he knew that it would be embarrassing to his
04:29family and his mom and his dad who is very church going so i think he he just became more
04:36reclusive when
04:37that part of his life was going on i was very surprised when my brother told me what his line
04:43of work was but he felt that his skills as a photographer was very beneficial and it was
04:50an artistic way for him to express himself while making a lot of money which he saw other people do
05:04i'm not sure how many movies he made but i speculate that it was around 10 possibly more
05:11when i first learned what brian's real career was it really didn't shock me
05:14his passion was photography and video and i guess that's the route it takes sometimes
05:18he liked the finer things he always said he wanted to be a millionaire by the time he was 50
05:25my name is she she larue i am a director and a drag queen i've been directing adult films since
05:361986 i mean i've been doing drag for a lot longer where the hell is he i've always wanted to
05:44be an adult
05:45film director i love it it's my it's my happy place it's really fun everyone's got a fetish for
05:53something some of the different genres you've got your jock you've got your bear sports themed underwear
06:03feet feet are big making an adult movie in the early 2000s there was a lot more money to spend
06:10and to pay people and to have bigger more fabulous locations and at first they would make their money
06:17back right away this was a time period during the early days of when people were first getting
06:22high-speed internet in their homes having porn available on demand like that was a game changer
06:28in the industry this was definitely where the money was
06:40it's open in 2001 brian coaches started his company cobra video which specialized in making
06:47gay porn films it was all online it was a little stress i think cobra video started out
06:53not really being successful at first like all companies don't start out successful at first
06:59please have a seat sorry about the mess but they had a certain appeal they had a very kind of
07:05a gritty
07:05amateurist appeal and the amateur stuff came into fashion so you've really never been with a guy
07:13people just got sick of slick produced porn and cobra video specialty was the more twink type porn
07:24twink pornography was a highly profitable sub-genre of the porn industry
07:29a twink is young hairless fresh a twink would be like 18 to maybe 25 depending on how young they
07:40look
07:41the younger looking the better twink porn is two fresh guys you know like high school buddies or
07:51neighborhood friends
07:55brian was very successful cobra video and he was making a lot of money once he started making the
08:03money through cobra video my brother bought a maserati and aston martin and they were gorgeous vehicles
08:10but it wasn't something that he wanted his family to know i would not say a word about it to
08:16anybody
08:16he was very successful at what he did i just thought it was something more in medical photography again
08:22because he made really good money with that
08:31sean got into the business through his boyfriend at the time
08:34and i guess it was kind of the boyfriend's fantasy to get sean into the business
08:41and he suggested shooting a video of him and then sending it out to brian
08:47he was slender he was very cute kind of like in a justin bieber sort of way
08:53sean lockhart says he's 18 but he looked very young
08:57at 18 you're still fresh out of the egg you're still a little a little wet so gotta be careful
09:07sean was a child of divorce and you know that's hard in itself
09:13in sean's childhood he suffered some abandonment from his parents as well as financial struggles
09:18and those are two things that could definitely lead you into the adult industry
09:23but sean had all the right things to be a huge twink porn star
09:30i wholeheartedly believe when brian saw sean on video thought oh my god there is a cash cow
09:39when probably a little crushy poo on sean
09:46so brian flies sean to florida
09:52and put him in a hotel they're shooting at these gay resorts
09:57and he's looking out to restaurants and being treated like a star
10:02in sure it was quite the whirlwind for sean
10:07every pool boy's dream was sean lockhart's first film and the first porn he ever made with brian coaches
10:14sean is so cute and charismatic and i'm sure that brian being like your typical
10:21director producer wants to show off his discovery and this cute boy look at what i'm hanging around with
10:30i just think people went a little cuckoo when they saw sean i think sean probably loved the attention
10:38and i know that he was offered a lot of money between a thousand and three thousand dollars for a
10:44scene
10:46sean came up with the name brent corrigan and was a good name
10:52every pool boy's dream did well and in 2004 sean and brian
10:59together made another movie called schoolboy crush which was an instant hit
11:10so then brian and sean signed a contract
11:13brian did not want him to go and do movies for other people
11:17but this contract between brian and sean was very unusual sean was given a car and
11:25a pay raise and a place to live and just all the amenities and fabulousness that someone can give
11:34someone to keep them where they have them
11:37when someone is so young and attractive and everybody's just fawning over them and encouraging
11:43them to use their body for quick financial gain that can be a hard temptation to pass up
11:48i think what being in those movies for cobra did was people wanted brent corrigan
11:55he was universally attractive to everybody that watched these movies the name brent corrigan
12:02the image represented super twink solidifying the fact that brent corrigan aka sean
12:11was well worth the investment
12:18early on brian coaches and sean lockhart developed a romantic relationship
12:24brian might have felt possessive over him due to the relationship
12:26but also if he feels like this person's a star he wants to keep making the money off of him
12:33i met sean lockhart at my brothers once sean lockhart was staying with my brother for a while
12:40he didn't have an easy life he was giving him a place to live just taking well care of him
12:49i thought he was a very nice person he was very polite that was my initial oppression
12:57he had told me that he cared for him a lot and sean really cared for him in that way
13:04too
13:05that he was somebody that he really could be with as as a partner
13:14it's not uncommon for producers directors photographers to date or try to date the talent
13:19but that can be tricky because it's just like a weird power dynamic and that can go sour really
13:25quickly just so many things that can go wrong by getting romantically physically involved with
13:33your stars it's kind of a double-edged sword because you're making a lot of money
13:42it's enticing oh wow look at how fabulous my life is sometimes the life doesn't turn out to be so
13:48fabulous
13:50it's scary just how quickly things got out of hand
14:02i woke up in the morning and i saw this house fire in dallas township and i'm looking at i'm
14:07going
14:07to my wife that's brian's house i swear it is next thing they bring his face up and they said
14:12this is the house of brian coaches i'm like oh god no
14:18so i went down and called his parents
14:23they told me that he was dead
14:28what the hell could happen what happened to him
14:32the major crime task unit was called in from the pennsylvania state police
14:37they removed multiple electronic devices the computers cellular phones they removed in evidence bags
14:46there was a wallet on the coffee table it was full money so we kind of figured from that point
14:51on
14:52it wasn't a robbery for money the brutal way in which brian coaches was killed it just feels personal
14:59police knew there had to be much more to this story
15:08we met brian's family that next day the early morning hours of 25th of january i remember seeing
15:15brian's father brian's mother and brian's sister walking to the station with a look of devastation
15:23my mother was a mess my dad could barely function
15:29i stayed in a room for three hours as they asked me questions
15:34i i i i got sick it was it was horrible it was absolutely horrible
15:42i told them about my brother's pornography business
15:49and i was afraid that he would be frowned upon and it it wouldn't be as highly investigated
15:57but we had made a promise to them that day that look to all three of them
16:03we're going to find out who did this and we will get justice for you
16:08when i was first told of how many wounds there was found i told them that i did believe that
16:15it
16:15was sean lockhart who had committed this crime because of the anger that was there
16:25through the investigation we learned that brian coaches his company cobra video
16:32had a model working for them his name was sean lockhart
16:38sean lockhart was actually living with brian coaches for a few years
16:42but sean lockhart and brian coaches had a falling out
16:46february of 2006 is when that all started
16:56brian had told me that sean was unhappy with cobra video and my brother and he was going home to
17:07california
17:09he had somebody else in his life named grant roy and he wanted to go and stay with grant roy
17:19and my brother was just devastated
17:21at some point sean lockhart met grant roy and grant roy probably was at least 20 plus years older than
17:30sean lockhart
17:32sean always liked older guys sean wanted to move away and not fulfill his contract with my brother
17:40a contract could feel like a prison to someone like sean he was young he was in demand
17:45he had the whole world in front of him there was so much money to be made so he's probably
17:50looking at that contract after a while
17:52like regretting he could make more money shoot more movies and capitalize on his looks and his name
18:05but brian knew that he had a huge star under contract and he was not going to let him go
18:10easily
18:12so brian ended up filing the civil lawsuit breach of contract against sean lockhart
18:16sean lockhart came back with the defense while i was 17 years old when he got me into covert video
18:24i'll expose you as a pedophile
18:27brian had no idea that sean lied and provided false documentation of his age when he starred in brian's films
18:36essentially brian was catfished
18:38which is
18:41highly illegal
18:42by sean telling the secret of him doing the movies underage would have been it for cobra video
18:51the potential legal implications of having an underage actor in a pornographic film are huge you could go
18:57to jail you would have to be a registered sex offender perhaps and that affects you for the rest of
19:02your
19:02life sean was effectively torpedoing cobra video
19:06but by the time sean signed the contract he had turned 18 so it was still binding
19:17then things got out on the internet just bad-mouthing my brother making him seem like this horrible
19:24person where and he wasn't brian was very anxious about what would happen to him he did fear for his
19:33life
19:35he did take a gun with him and a bodyguard so he could protect himself
19:42when we learned that this lawsuit was going on and there was friction between sean and brian
19:48kochis we thought sean lockhart was the one that did this the adult industry already carries with it a
19:54lot of danger and when the people involved in it are underage those dangers multiply
20:06it's so important in the adult industry to confirm someone's age i know what happened at playboy once
20:13there was a girl who came in and provided identification and she looked older than 18 and
20:19she ended up shooting a whole playmate pictorial and then eventually she admitted she was 17 and
20:24they had to scrap the whole thing i don't believe that people as young as sean lockhart was are mentally
20:31equipped yet to deal with not only that kind of attention but what happens in the adult industry
20:42because of that civil lawsuit with sean lockhart of course investigators are going to want to speak
20:46with him so we fly to california we meet with sean lockhart we also meet with grant roy in an
20:55attorney's
20:55office during that conversation grant roy and sean lockhart said we will do whatever we need to do
21:01to prove it wasn't us when investigators were speaking to sean he indicated to us that he had no
21:07ill will of brian he said that lawsuit was settled sean lockhart said he was settled in january of 2007
21:19and he had indicated that he was not in pennsylvania january 24th that kind of takes the focus off sean
21:26a little bit obviously it's a gruesome murder so we have to dig in and we have to verify the
21:32alibi
21:34but sean lockhart also provided information to investigators that he attended a meeting with
21:39two men from virginia beach virginia that always stuck in the mind of sean lockhart
21:51these two men from virginia beach joe karakas and harlow quadra joe and harlow were escorts
22:01there were a couple they're also partners in business they owned a company called the north
22:08folk male escorts where it was male escorts for other males
22:15and they discussed a desire to make a movie with sean lockhart now at the time sean lockhart says i
22:22can't
22:22make a movie because of brian kosher's and cobra video i'm bound by a lawsuit that i'm not allowed
22:30to make movies those two men kind of hinted at well what if brian went away
22:36and harlow followed that up with we have people that can make him disappear sean lockhart said he
22:44didn't want anything to do with it he explained to us at the time he didn't have any involvement with
22:50these two men and so they went their separate ways
23:00they agreed that sean would finish off the contract and they would go their separate ways
23:06he was going to be given the opportunity to make his own films so there was an amicable resolution
23:12to that lawsuit unbeknownst to show karakas and harlow quadra
23:20after we had learned about the dinner harlow and joe became our main focus
23:26harlow to me looked like he could have starred in a cw series he had that kind of smoldering vampire
23:33brooding kind of guy look and joe looked like a meathead they drove expensive cars expensive watches
23:43expensive jewelry half a million dollar house in virginia beach being a male prostitute like that
23:50it's a lot of hard work you know when you think of it and i think they were looking for
23:54an easier way
23:55to make a buck and a bigger buck they thought there was bigger money in the twink pornography business
24:05they got engaged with producing gay pornographic films on their own no harlow was the actor
24:13but the big dog at that time in the twink market was cobra video
24:22brian had somewhat of a talent for making movies these guys did not cobra video sold numerous movies
24:30quite a few movies and they think they wanted to be up to brian's level if joe and harlow could
24:37have
24:38snagged sean to be in their movies that would have been a big thing for them it would have made
24:42them
24:43a definite player
24:47but then we learned that night of the murder brian was on the phone with his attorney the attorney had
24:54told us that while he was speaking to brian there was a ring at the door and the attorney said
25:00all
25:01i remember hearing is hi d and that was brian greeting whoever was at the door and then brian says
25:07i have
25:08to go who is this infamous d we have to dig into it so we started to dig into brian's
25:19email after the
25:21extraction of females that were sent to brian coaches in cobra video you know they came across
25:26an application that was submitted on january 22nd 2007 from danny moylan danny moylan submitted an
25:33application to to be an actor for cobra video the emails were highly suggestive that danny moylan would
25:42be eager to have sex with brian cautious you know in his tryout to become a star danny moylan said
25:51i'm
25:52new to this i've never done it before i may need to be taught and i know brian emailed him
26:00back to say
26:00bring an overnight back i think with his models that he hired he engaged in sexual activities to see how
26:07they
26:07were performed in this world auditions can take many forms and some are safer than others inviting
26:14new talent to your home when you don't really know much about them can be very dangerous you don't
26:19know who you're letting into your home danny moylan set up a meeting that brian coaches his house on january
26:2524th of 2007. brian was killed the night of january 24 2007. i spoke to brian the day that he
26:40was killed
26:41he was very happy because the lawsuit was finally over
26:47came to an agreement with his attorney and sean lockhart's attorney
26:51that sean would continue to fulfill his contract with cobra video brian was very happy that this
27:01part of fighting was finally over that was the happiest i've heard him sound in a long time like
27:06a big weight was taken off of him the audition process ever since i started was to receive
27:17an email or pictures from somebody that wanted to be in adult movies send us some polaroids or some
27:25digital prints on the computer or if you have a sex video that you can show us show it and
27:31if the
27:32pictures looked good and they sounded sane on the phone you would fly them out to do a scene
27:39but according to these emails that brian was getting from somebody by the name of danny moylan he wanted to
27:46get into the industry and be a star and he was said didn't have any experience and needed to be
27:53taught
27:57it's not common to say that they need to be taught i mean that's weird now at the time when
28:06that was
28:06learned by the investigators nobody knew who danny moylan was but with the application that was
28:12submitted to cobra video was also a headshot
28:19i did a quick story on it the next morning there was a message there from a manager of a
28:25bookstore
28:25in virginia beach telling me that that's not danny moylan that's harley quadra
28:33he runs a male escort business here in town in virginia beach
28:41the pennsylvania state police computer crime unit were able to pull the ip address of where the
28:47emails had actually came from from danny moylan and that address was stratham court in virginia
28:52beach at joe karakas and harlow quadra owned that house it's starting to come together
29:06we're getting in the car we're going to virginia beach joe and harlow were not the house
29:11we talked to neighbors they hadn't seen them they had they don't know where they went they just picked
29:16up and left why did you leave virginia beach if you didn't do anything once we started to dig in
29:28to
29:28their finances with the virginia beach police department we learned harlow and joe were almost
29:34on the verge of bankruptcy they were spending more money than they were taking in which leads us to
29:41believe that they may have had a motive to get rid of brian so they could in turn bring in
29:47john
29:47lockhart we learned that they were hiding out in south florida till around april of 2007. they were
29:56still doing escorts and still making movies and trying to sell the movies in south beach the detective
30:03got on the phone with joe that day and said hey you're not under arrest your name came up in
30:08the
30:08investigation i want to talk to you the phone went dead they don't want to talk to us our plan
30:16was
30:17to monitor them we all sat down and figured what are we going to do next we need to put
30:25harlow quadras
30:26aka danny moylan in the house i believe it was prosecutor mike melnick says we'll do a wire tab
30:35see if we can get harlow and joe on wire admitting what they did because at that point we didn't
30:40really know grant roy and sean lockhart were operating with investigators so sean and grant
30:47invite them out to california under the ruse you know let's make the movie
30:56so they flew out to california that's how greedy harlow quadrant joe crucus was even though they knew
31:03they were a person of interest in brian's death they wanted to get that deal done to do pornographic
31:07movies with sean lockhart however joe and harlow said you might have a wire on you meet us tomorrow
31:16on black's beach which is a nude beach
31:23a nude beach might seem like a totally normal place to hold a business meeting about porn
31:28but it poses a unique challenge to investigators
31:33my head was spinning i said how do you intend to wear a body wire on a nudist beach
31:40so they had reached out to naval intelligence and they had gotten about the only thing that you can
31:47bring to a nudist beach
31:51and that device was a key fob
31:54find your microphone in the key fob so that's how they did it that's how they recorded the
31:59conversation on a nude beach
32:04so they meet on the beach
32:09sean probably did a great performance for this and made it real i mean i don't know many people that
32:17could have stayed calm cool and collected during a situation like that i mean wow
32:26at that point in investigation we don't have joe or harlow one or the other or both inside brian
32:34coaches this house we need something to put them there we need an admission
32:45sean lockhart joe karekis all the quadra you know they're outside of san diego's black beach
32:50new beach i know they engaged in some conversation they played football a little bit they took some
32:56pictures and then they laid down on the blanket sean recorded it held the key fob in his hand
33:04sometimes he placed it down in addition to that there was a luzerne county detective that was about
33:10100 feet away he was nude as well he went undercover they were talking a little bit about brian's death
33:20and harlow quadra made a statement
33:24i literally fell out of my chair when i heard it
33:29he said that mr cocious never sawed coming joe says he went quick
33:39harlow says but it made me feel good inside
33:44so at that point we were like well he just admitted to being in the house when it happened
33:51the investigators you know they felt comfortable enough to obtain arrest warrants for harlow quadra
33:57joseph karekis for the murder of brian coaches but we don't know exactly what happened that night
34:06we want more obviously now those two didn't say anything when they when they were picked up
34:12so when we walked in to interview harlow very standoffish says i'm not talking to you i want an
34:17attorney they're separated in prison harlow sort of shut down and became more quiet joe karekis was
34:23always standoffish prosecutors are hoping one of them would break free and one did joe karekis
34:35we get a call from joe's attorney joe's deathly afraid of the death penalty let's make a deal i'll
34:40say what happened this was planned they wanted to get rid of brian so they could work with john
34:48lockhart to make a million dollar movie and that plan was put in motion when harlow and joe sent
34:54that fictitious application under the name of danny moylan to cobra video the agreement was to meet
35:01up on january 24 2007 to kill brian coaches joe says he drove harlow to brian's house joe's sitting in
35:10the car harlow goes inside for the visit joe tells us that harlow and brian are drinking wine
35:22talking sitting on the couch
35:26the quadro said listen do you want a neck rub or something like that went behind him
35:38then pulled out the knife carlo sliced brian's throat as brian was laying back
35:49then joe goes in joe admits to setting the house on fire get rid of evidence
35:58and during the trip back to virginia beach harlow throws the knife that he used out the window
36:02on the turnpike
36:08joe karakas once he took the plea to first degree murder it's a mandatory life in prison
36:15with no chance of parole
36:19the police that called me that day i was so happy because they were finally being arrested
36:26but they did tell me that they would not be resting sean or grant i felt very grateful to sean
36:35and
36:35grant for their involvement and what they did to try to catch the people who did kill my brother
36:43but i wish he would have said more to joe and harlow that he does not need to die
36:51i'm not sure if i blame him as much as i wish my brother never met him
36:56i wish he never hired him to work for him i wish that he was ever even involved with him
37:08we interviewed sean lockhart and grant roy over and over with different investigators from different
37:15angles sean lockhart and grant roy were cleared of any involvement in the murder
37:23i personally could never imagine sean being a murderer but they had to turn over every rock
37:31to find the snake
37:47joe and harlow got what they deserved they need to be in prison for life for what they've done
37:53but looking back at brian kochis and his family i don't know if you can ever say justice was ever
37:58done we had made a promise to them that day we were going to find out who did this and
38:03we will
38:03get justice for you you know we got what we told them we would get they really didn't care how
38:09they
38:09were going to achieve their goal and if it took killing somebody and burning the house down that's
38:15what it takes and with no remorse or no feelings after he parted ways with cobra video sean lockhart went
38:24on to have a really successful career in the gay porn industry
38:29since the murder i have shot movies with him and i directed an amazing movie called heaven to hell
38:36and sean was amazing his acting he could definitely be in mainstream movies
39:03i think because it's a very conservative area
39:12it's not something you want very well known
39:16yeah i would tell brian that i wish he were still here
39:22probably tell him brian you didn't have to keep that from me
39:27i wouldn't have judged him because he's never judged me
39:33still to this day we still cry
39:38and nightmares like i have dreams all the time that he comes back and i'm just so happy and then
39:46i
39:46have to wake up because it's not true it's not real
39:54if my brother was here i would just tell him i love him so much
40:02i don't judge him at all for what he did and i love the person who he was
40:11every pool boy's dream is a reminder that behind the glamour of filmmaking are real people and real tragedies
40:21brian coaches died for absolutely no reason and this is a horrible tragedy for those who knew him
40:33when you're beautiful
40:36you become an object of other people's fantasy
40:39but it can be devastating
40:41i always had a feeling that something's not right with this individual
40:51brooke had a dream she chased it she was making great money the industry is filled with predators
41:03she was just your average girl growing up that loved to go out and have fun
41:09she was a small town girl who had big dreams
41:14it was very very brutal
41:20when you sell your body for a living the consequences can be deadly
