00:00Journalists covering the Senate slammed Sen. Rodante Marcoleta for saying they received bribes
00:05from the camp of Acting Senate President Win Gachalian. The reporters say this was a
00:10irresponsible and reckless attack. Marcoleta calls them
00:14paid hacks and alleges reporters failed to question the move of Gachalian's camp to
00:19cancel the Blue Ribbon Committee hearing Thursday, June 4. But journalists did question Gachalian
00:24on the postponed Senate probe. In a joint statement, the Senate reporters condemned
00:28the claims of Marcoleta. It reads, at a time when disinformation and political polarization
00:33continue to undermine public discourse, government officials should exercise greater restraint and
00:38responsibility in their pronouncements. In a press conference with Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano,
00:43Marcoleta explains his beef with the media. He says he was not quoted by broadsheets in
00:48reports despite a long speech he gave during an Iglesia Ni Cristo rally in Luneta.
00:53I was using the example in the rally of the IRC last July 13 yata in
01:022025. It was a 2 million crowd gathered in Luneta. Rally ng IRC yun and I am one of the
01:13four speakers. So 11 reporters saw it. 11 reporters heard it. Alaman niyo, walamin na akong pangalan
01:22to. Kahit na yung acronym lang ng pangalan ko, alim ba ba may naglagay, narinig namin si RTN,
01:32baka sakaling tanggapin ko na po yun. Marcoleta eventually takes back his
01:36accusation. So pasensya na po kung ako'y nakapagsalita ng gano'n. I did not mean it.
01:42So pasensya na po.
