00:00On March 17, 2026, 17 Latin American countries, along with the United States, signed a regional agreement called the Shield
00:08of the Americas, which allows the U.S. to conduct unaccompanied military operations without consultation.
00:13In countries like Honduras, everything appears ready for the start of these operations.
00:18Haradot Oresarayas reports from Tegucigalpa.
00:23Honduras is one of the 17 countries that signed the original agreement known as the Shield of the Americas, which
00:29grants the United States full authorization to use Honduran territory as its own in any military operation, and also to
00:37carry out all types of territorial control actions.
00:40For some, this is a clear violation of national sovereignty.
00:45It must be clarified that this agreement was signed by the current government, which came to power precisely because of
00:52Donald Trump's interference.
00:53And we know what that interference means.
00:56It means opening the country to foreign authorities who can conduct raids and operations behind the backs of Honduran authorities.
01:05And that is simply shameful for a nation that has sovereignty and should be defending that sovereignty from the presidency.
01:12The current Honduran authorities seem to have no problem admitting that the United States will carry out military intervention operations
01:21in Honduran territory.
01:25What has been referred to as cooperation with the United States government is one of the guidelines established within the
01:31framework of the Shield of the Americas Regional Cooperation Agreement.
01:38And as you know, there is a whole negotiation process underway between the Secretary of Defense and the United States
01:45Defense Agencies to begin coordinating intervention actions within the national territory.
01:51During Juan Orlando Hernández's presidency from 2014 to 2022, Honduras created the Special Economic Development Zones, CEDES, which are small
02:01private territories where buyers are not obligated to obey Honduran law.
02:06The CEDES were banned during Chumara Castro's administration, but it appears they have returned under Nasristo Asfura's government as part
02:14of a broader strategy to surrender national sovereignty.
02:18It is not surprising, to begin with, that the National Party, which governs today, is once again making concessions to
02:25sovereignty, given that in the previous term they created the CEDES, handed over the territory, and believe that the CEDES
02:32are linked to this agreement.
02:34They want to have territories where they can do things that the law does not allow in other places.
02:39The Shield of the Americas is the new territory-controlled operation of the United States for Latin America.
02:45Military and intelligence operations will be held in 17 countries to sign this agreement that some think is one of
02:52the expressions of the new Don't-Route Doctrine.
02:54For Telesurian English, from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Gerardo Torres Zelaya.
