00:00i mean i knew who it was in the book i didn't know for a while yeah i didn't know for a while
00:18i'm a cheeser i like to read ahead um but that doesn't necessarily mean that we have the same
00:24lady whistle down when i got cast i well i ordered the books online but then i went straight online
00:29to fan forums to see what they said and that's how i found out and i was really shocked but then it was
00:34quite fun because not everybody in the cast knew who it was and it was like a real life mystery that
00:40sort of went around didn't it i think there were a few people on set who didn't want to know as well
00:44which is like a great take on it as well so it is quite nice to feel like you are lady whistle down
00:52whilst everyone else is trying to figure out who lady whistle down is because uh but and i like
00:57people's like odd guesses as well that's always fun because yeah being the person who
01:01no i was quite late to the party with that because i didn't read um ahead in the series
01:08um and when i found out i kind of my jaw dropped um so yeah there was a lot of um there was a lot
01:14of uh hushed uh whispers about who it could be and also the thing about shondaland is that you never
01:20quite know which way they're going to go i think the books are a start and start starting point and
01:24chris van dusen the showrunner has done such an amazing job but just um using that as a platform
01:29on which to build these amazing narratives and stories so yeah you can't be safe you never know
01:33quite what they're going to do so yeah when i found out i was um yeah i gave a round of applause
01:38very good
01:39i think a great show has both you know i think we we like to see um i mean i wouldn't say we like to
01:52see people sort of um have tension but i think there is there is something quite obviously
01:57entertaining about that um but i also think you know that love stories are are can be so powerful
02:04to watch and everyone loves a bit of romance and so i think they're a great show sort of has the
02:10element of both and and bridgerton has that and more i think it also has the humor and
02:16it's very witty and um yeah it has all those elements i think they're kind of one in the same
02:22everyone in the feuds mostly just needs to figure out how to hug each other and everyone in the love
02:26story has so much conflict going on it's like one big feud anyway um and so the kind of drama is
02:33conflict whether it's trying to figure out how to fall in love or trying to figure out how not to
02:36punch each other they're very very similar we love stories so much as human beings don't we we love to
02:41follow stories so there has to be a bit of frictional resistance for us to be like yeah when things come
02:48together so i i reckon it has to be equal parts both i think
02:52i think the fact that because i hadn't read the novels when um when the conversation started about
03:03this project and actually the one thing that i took from it was like well you know it's brilliant you
03:07feel quite safe and secure because then you know that there's obviously a lot to love about this
03:11and the fact they've got a massive fandom but yeah no it's it's a it's been a real um it's been a real
03:17sort of bomb to know that there's already support for it out there and um and that people are excited
03:22about it before you even got to go to work yeah i think there is an element of of wanting to to do
03:29right by the fans and hoping that they'll they'll enjoy it and um but uh i think yeah to a certain
03:37extent you have to sort of separate the two and and do what you feel um you know portray it in a way
03:45that you feel is is truthful and then just sort of worry about that later um but i i think um you know
03:53i think the fans will will be happy with what we've with what we've done with their but very
03:58beloved characters at least i hope they will absolutely i think you have to you know you want
04:03to do it just as for the fans first and foremost because they've lived with these books for 20 years
04:08but i feel so proud of what we've done and having now watched the show back so many times i i think i
04:14hope they will be going into this project i i was well aware that these that these books have such a
04:20rabid international fan base and their beloved and the fans feel so passionately about these
04:26characters and and these stories and i think that that definitely provided a healthy amount of
04:31pressure for me you know i wanted to get things right for them and i think fans of the books are
04:36going to see everything they loved about the books on screen as well i hate you with i hate you now i'm
04:42crying only do it if everyone loves me yeah the contract um i think it's almost more fun if your
04:49if your character is like hated by the fans and see if you can't turn that around i think that's
04:54that's my challenge with simon you did i couldn't stop myself i'm terrible i say i won't do it but then
05:00because i when you start looking up the books you realize there's a huge fandom behind them
05:05and they're amazing and they're so supportive so i knew that both penelope and eloise were hugely
05:11important to the fans of the books and i hope that we've done them justice for the fans well the
05:16thing is that you know if you're on social media um which i sort of am loose i am on instagram that
05:22you know you get these amazing fans that message you and they let you know but what's brilliant
05:26about this is that i think there's so many characters that everyone can relate to at least
05:29one of them so um it's like a chocolate box and i think a lot of people have their different
05:33their different flavors that they're after and um i'm just proud that anthony is um is full of flavor
05:38i think marina's got it pretty tough i think that i admire the strength that that character conjures up
05:47to keep figuring out ingenuitous ways out of these kind of holes that society has dug for us i've got
05:54a lot of admiration for that character it's pretty bad i do think it's pretty bad for anthony
05:57i mean he really he really loses everything and he's trying it's like he his whole status and his
06:05identity is like sand in his hands and he just watches it all fall away i i feel really sorry
06:09for eloise i think um she's clearly showing signs of someone who absolutely um is counterculture and
06:16is anti her own society um so you can see those amazing moments where she's going to have to be
06:22introduced to society next year and experience what that daphne does in series one and the anxiety
06:27around that seems pretty horrific um and then of course daphne at the beginning her need to
06:32to be the perfect woman i think maybe marina thompson is in a really difficult situation because
06:38she's a victim of the time that she's in you know she's with this family that don't understand her
06:44so i think she has a pretty tough time of things and i think of like anthony bridgerton who you know
06:50now you know their passing of their father has this massive weight of responsibility and is also
06:55wants to protect his little sister and and the conflict of that but he wants to explore his own
07:00you know love and an idea of what he wants for his future i think
07:04obviously we're just focused on the first season right now it's still a little too early
07:12to tell what happens next but we all know there there are you know eight bridgerton books and there
07:18are eight bridgerton siblings and in success i would love to be able to explore romances and stories for
07:23for all of them you know what i think um there was no doubt that um i think the expansiveness of the
07:34show um i think everyone's hopeful that we'll be able to explore those characters further and
07:38um having been able to just read a little bit ahead uh it was great to be able to go to the books to see
07:44what what man anthony becomes in order to be able to really play with all the meandering um sensibilities
07:50that he's got and to make him actually quite unlikable and with the view that hopefully one day
07:54he'll find happiness within himself and uh and we'll be able to enjoy that too
07:57i'd quite like to see eloise enter that realm and shake things up like eloise style i guess
08:04that's quite exciting yeah i would be really excited selfishly too because i really want
08:10penelope to have a friend at the balls and i would love to see what those two get up to
08:14together at the balls i feel like they'd create some trouble it would be really really fun
08:18i think there's always a distance between how things seem and how they really are
08:21um i think that it's wonderful that we have a world and characters that are built out so well
08:27that things could go in any direction no matter how far we take it
08:30um so i think we might just have to wait and see
08:33you are a bridgerton
08:34oh is this not lovely all of us together again
08:40lovely indeed we should tempt scandal more often
08:43you
08:43you
