00:00For generations, the Mersey Ferry has been one of the most recognisable symbols of Liverpool,
00:05carrying commuters, visitors and sightseers across the Mersey.
00:09Now for the first time in more than 60 years, a brand new vessel is preparing to join the fleet.
00:14Newly released images show inside the Royal Daffodil,
00:17which has officially been handed over by world-based shipbuilders Camel Laird
00:22to the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
00:25The photographs provide a first look at a contemporary lounge space on the main deck
00:29along with the vessel's bridge and outdoor decking areas.
00:33According to the Combined Authority,
00:34the Royal Daffodil has been designed to offer a world-class passenger experience
00:38with spacious open-plan decks, new seating areas and bars
00:42where passengers can enjoy views across the river.
00:44The authority says the ferry has also been built with flexibility in mind.
00:49Dedicated event spaces will allow the vessel to host conferences,
00:52corporate functions and private celebrations.
00:55Accessibility has been a key part of the design.
00:57The ferry includes a fully accessible interior and dedicated lift,
01:00providing access to the upper deck,
01:02helping ensure all passengers can enjoy the facilities on board.
01:06Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor Steve Rotherham
01:08described the handover as a proud moment for the region
01:11and a significant step forward for its public transport network.
01:15He said the vessel sits alongside the other transport investments,
01:18including publicly owned trains and a modern bus fleet.
01:21Before passengers come aboard,
01:23crews will undergo a programme of training ahead of the ferry
01:25entering service later this year.
01:28We still live with a group of friends.
