00:03Robots are changing the way we do a lot of things here on Earth, but now they might also change
00:07the way future humans do things while on the moon.
00:10These are the robots that could one day do just that, currently in development at ETH Zurich.
00:15Each one will have a specialized ability, from mining and excavation, to mapping, to building structures.
00:20However, despite their specializations, lead researcher on the project Philip Arm says some of them were built to be more
00:26general helpers,
00:27with Arm saying about it, quote, the individual robots can take on specialized tasks and perform them simultaneously.
00:33Moreover, thanks to its redundancy, a robot team is able to compensate for a teammate's failure,
00:38meaning they work as a team and if one robot breaks, another is able to pick up the slack if
00:42need be,
00:43an important notion when you're nearly 240,000 miles away on the lunar surface.
00:48The research team have now named their robot crew, the Animals, each equipped with the right tools for their respective
00:53specializations.
00:54They have also already won a competition, where their robots were able to locate and identify minerals in a test
01:00site meant to mimic lunar conditions.
