00:00Julian Assange is on his way home to Australia.
00:03A short time ago, a United States court in Saipan
00:06accepted a plea agreement between Mr Assange
00:10and the United States Department of Justice.
00:12Mr Assange has since boarded a flight to Australia
00:16and will land in Australia later today.
00:19Now, regardless of your views about his activities,
00:22and they will be varied,
00:24Mr Assange's case has dragged on for too long.
00:27I've said repeatedly that there was nothing to be gained
00:31by his continued incarceration.
00:34And I am pleased that he is on his way home to Australia
00:38to reunite with his family here.
00:41This work has been complex and it has been considered.
00:46This is what standing up for Australians around the world looks like.
00:50It means getting the job done,
00:53getting results and getting outcomes,
00:55having the determination to stay the course
00:59and I'm very pleased that on this occasion
01:03this has been a successful outcome
01:06that I believe overwhelmingly Australians did want to see.
01:12As I said, they will have different views
01:14about the engagement and the activities of Mr Assange.
01:19But they will be pleased
01:21that this saga has been brought to an end
01:24and that he will be able to reunite with his family.
01:28Thank you.
01:28Grazie a tutti.
