00:36So tonight is just a symbolic lighting of the Hollywood sign.
00:39The sign was first lit with about 3,700 light bulbs around the perimeter of each letter
00:45when it originally said Hollywood land.
00:48And they would light Holly, and then Wood, and then Land, right?
00:52And then altogether, Hollywood land, and then the cycle would repeat throughout the night.
00:57The sign is in a residential neighborhood.
00:59It is in Griffith Park, but right below you is the residential neighborhood that was created
01:04because this sign existed.
01:06It said Hollywood land, and it was an advertisement to build the homes down here.
01:11So because of that, it's in a very sensitive area.
01:15It's a little bit of a controversy to light the sign every night of the year.
01:20What we are working on is a plan to hopefully light the sign on very special occasions.
01:26So we're working, I'm working with the, or the trust is working with the neighborhood groups,
01:31and we're going to develop a plan in order to do that.
