Rotterdam is the venue for the final. Can Spurs become the first English team to win a European trophy?
Transcript
00:00Already got the better of the Scottish Cup holders, Rangers in the first round, running out 8-4 aggregate winners.
00:09And then Slovan Liberace in the quarterfinals by 6 goals to 2 on aggregate, and that was after being beaten
00:15in the first leg, 2-0.
00:17White Hart Lane, the goals flow with Tottenham scoring 6.
00:21And then UFK in the semifinals by 5 goals to 2 after the two legs winning both home and away.
00:31Title winners in 1961, and of course looking to claim European glory on the double of course in 61, followed
00:40up with Cup success last season.
00:46The referee is Andris Van Nguyen of Holland.
00:51And it's Atletico attacking the goal away to our riders.
00:54Jimmy Greaves that gets the first touch there for Tottenham Hotspur, looking to burst forward down the centre.
00:59It's for a looking run from Danny Blanchflower.
01:02Very much, Steve.
01:03Lynch being at the back, 37 years old now.
01:12Atletico have a free kick.
01:15Bobby Smith cuts off the route back to the keeper.
01:19Touching field from Enrique Coyar.
01:22And then he loses out as Spurs manage to win it back, but the referee once again stops play.
01:33Easily done at the back by Morris Norman with his Blanche flower.
01:40Just takes a ricochet and lands for Coyar here.
01:48Forceful go forward looking to hit Nendonke.
01:55Bobby Smith.
01:5620 of players forwards here for Spurs as they come forward down the right-hand side.
02:00He might fall for Jimmy Greaves.
02:03Spurs have the lead.
02:0616 minutes gone and it's Jimmy Greaves that has given Tottenham Hotspur the advantage at the final stadium.
02:19Super finish inside the penalty area.
02:21A deep cross from the right-hand side and Greaves is on hand.
02:25Weekly out of play.
02:26Greaves wants to take the throw himself.
02:28And Greaves on the right-hand side.
02:31Looking to get the ball in.
02:33Towards the likes of Cliff Jones here.
02:35Peter has completely missed it.
02:36He's back across the face of goal.
02:38Is this a second?
02:38It is!
02:40It's John White.
02:43The Scottish inside forward has given Spurs a second goal in the Cup Winners Cup Final.
02:56Tottenham 2.
02:57Atletico Madrid 0.
02:59And it's the Scottish international John White that's got the goal.
03:05Spurs at the break lead by two goals to nil.
03:07It's all going to plan.
03:10Successfully defending this Cup Winners Cup title.
03:14Where is Raniero?
03:19Mendonca plays it over to the left-hand side.
03:22An opportunity here perhaps.
03:23There's bodies going down inside the penalty area.
03:26Won't fall for Mendonca.
03:27That's a decent-looking save.
03:28But unfortunately, it's handball.
03:32Punched off the line.
03:38Well, this is an opportunity.
03:44Tottenham in complete control at the break at 2-0.
03:47Atletico from the spot kick.
03:50Enrique Coyar.
03:54Against Bill Brown.
03:57The Scottish international.
03:58The World Cup in 58.
04:03Coyar 2.
04:03Reduce the deficit.
04:06I think the ball's on the spot.
04:14Coyar.
04:15Spanish international.
04:17Nine goals in the league this season.
04:19Can he score again in the Cup Winners Cup?
04:21Makes no mistake.
04:25And it's going on once again.
04:31Just two minutes after the restart.
04:33Tottenham in Hawksburg 2.
04:35Atletico Madrid 1.
04:38Still there.
04:39The London side had the advantage by two goals to 1.
04:43It's a decent turn as well.
04:44And there's options inside the penalty area.
04:46That should be comfortable for the keeper.
04:48But it wasn't.
04:49And it's Terry Dyson.
04:51A speculative lob from the left-hand side.
04:53That has somehow embarrassed the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper.
04:59Eduardo Marina Betia.
05:02He flapped it.
05:03He couldn't push it over the crossbar.
05:05And Spurs restore their two-goal cushion.
05:12Terry Dyson.
05:14Such a crucial member of the double team.
05:1712 goals in that season.
05:20Scored a hat-trick in the North London derby against Arsenal.
05:22He's on the score sheet again.
05:24In the Cup Winners Cup final.
05:263-1 Spurs.
05:29Enrique Cote.
05:37There's the shot from Dyson.
05:39Nice again.
05:41And I don't know if it's here.
05:42I think we lost the flight of the ball.
05:51Baker.
05:52Blanche Flau.
05:55It's close to the side for John White.
06:01This goes for his coming forward.
06:03Coming into the penalty area.
06:05As Cliff Jones look to wriggle his way through.
06:11It's only with the challenge.
06:14And this is a new opportunity.
06:16And Jimmy Greaves, I think, dances this, does he?
06:19Also standing over it.
06:20Danny Blancheflower.
06:22Greaves moves to his right.
06:24Blancheflower taking responsibility.
06:26And then Greaves moves back.
06:27It will be Blancheflower.
06:30Shot is charged out.
06:33And it's 20 mark.
06:35Getting the cross from the left-hand side.
06:37And it's Jimmy Greaves.
06:38And it's another.
06:41Ten minutes remaining.
06:44Surely Spurs have won the Cup Winners Cup.
06:49The second goal for Jimmy Greaves.
06:53And Tottenham lead by four goals to one.
06:57Tottenham in Rotterdam against Atletico Madrid.
07:03Tottenham seem to be putting the pressure on.
07:04But Tottenham deeming with it and breaking now.
07:07Options with Cliff Jones down the centre.
07:10Tim Greaves also forward.
07:11Bobby Smith calling for it.
07:13Right-hand side.
07:13It's still Dyson.
07:14Will he go for goal?
07:15Again, he does and finds the top corner.
07:19That's a more conventional strike and a conventional goal from Terry Dyson.
07:23His first had a touch of fortune about it.
07:26But not the second.
07:28The left-footed effort that flew into the top corner.
07:31Giving Eduardo Madino-Vetilla no chance whatsoever.
07:34The Argentine beaten for the fifth time.
07:38And Tottenham surely now will become the first English side to win a European trophy.
07:58And Tottenham has really dominated the game in Rotterdam tonight.
08:03Then donk it.
08:07Shot from distance and the save from Bill Brown.
08:11Just pushing it round for a corner.
08:14Super shot coming in from Miguel.
08:17And that is it.
08:19No time for the corner.
08:20it is Tottenham that have won the Cup Winners Cup and finally an English club
08:26side has won in Europe it has been coming there's been some super
08:31performances from the top clubs of the first division Tottenham though break
08:37the deadlock drop the maiden tag with success in the final stadium against an
08:44Atletico Madrid side that of course won this trophy last year beating Fiorentina
08:49two goals from Terry Dyson two from Jimmy Greaves one as well from John White
08:56and although Atletico Madrid briefly showed their qualities at the start of
09:02the second half when they pulled a goal back from the Spanish international
09:05Enrique Coyal Spurs always just that little bit to go for Atletico and what now for
09:12Tottenham double winners of course just the other season when his last campaign
09:16and now in 1963 they conquered Europe and they kick on from here and deservedly
09:23they get the better of the Spanish side
09:28basically finished as La Liga runners up to Real Madrid and you never know we may
09:32see Tottenham on the European Cup stage if they can win the first division title
09:36once again Danny Blanchflower going up to lift the Cup Winners Cup first time an
09:43English club has got their hands on European silverware huge cheers from the
09:49crowd thousands have made the way over from the capital of England taking the
09:53short trip from the ferries and one or two flying as well to enjoy the night in
09:58Rotterdam and the party certainly starting now Danny Blanchflower held aloft by
