00:00Can a melon charge your phone? At a cozy market in Lagos, tons of fruit and
00:03vegetable waste used to end up in a landfill, but now some of that waste gets
00:07a second life. Three times a week collectors pick up spoiled fruit, peels
00:10and other organic waste from here. Then it goes into a small biogas plant where
00:14it is chopped, shredded, mixed and turned into gas. The plant is still a pilot
00:18project and not everything works perfectly yet, but it's already used to
00:21power lights, cook food and even charge phones. This gets both cost and emissions.
00:26And scaled up, it could bring reliable energy to people living with an
00:29unstable power grid.
