Police Interceptors - Season 25 Episode 8
Transcript
00:02This is Police Interceptors, and you're riding with the pride of Northamptonshire.
00:14Ace pursuit drivers, with air support, and a crack dog unit.
00:28They bring down the bad guys, keep the streets safe, and battle 24-7, in the war on crime.
00:47This is what it is, isn't it? We find them, we lock them up.
00:54Coming up, the disappearing decamp, can't hide from the dog, robbing the wrong place at
01:10the wrong time, and boxing in a seven-tonner.
01:31It's very early on a Tuesday morning, and someone dodgy has woken a household long before
01:39their alarm clock.
01:41We've had a caller report that he's disturbed, some people on foot outside his address.
01:48So we're just in the area, because it sounds like they've run off to see if we can pick
01:52up anybody on foot that's moving around that shouldn't be in the area.
01:56Tanya and Tomo have eyes peeled for a group they suspect are in the business of burglary.
02:02That sounds like they've potentially been disturbed trying to get to a garage.
02:06Your four beams are on, just to remind you.
02:08Oh yes, thank you.
02:10There's not much on the road to dazzle at this time, and any car that is moving is of interest.
02:18Including this Mini.
02:22Is this the only people in that car?
02:24No.
02:26I thought there was only one, but...
02:29By the time Tomo spins round, the Mini's vanished, which only adds to their suspicions.
02:35We've lost it.
02:36We'll go right here, it might have come out on the estate, out this way, right there.
02:40There are cars on the main road.
02:45All right, is it one of the ones?
02:47Uh, no.
02:50No, no.
02:51But no sign of the disappearing Mini they saw a minute ago.
02:56However...
02:57A nearby armed response vehicle is now behind a Mini.
03:06Oh my God, I don't, that's the one that's when passes.
03:08No.
03:09That Mini went, I went passes.
03:11Yeah, I've eased, I've just said they've sighted it, going this way.
03:14And if anything were needed to make the car even more interesting, its registration does
03:19the job.
03:20Is it a, is it a cloned vehicle?
03:21No.
03:246-1, we're trying to make ground on you now with Gladstone Road.
03:28Uh, yeah, so the unmarked vehicle ahead's got the, the subject vehicle in sight, so the
03:33plan, they're just discussing tactics, will be for us to try and get it stopped.
03:38In convoy with the lead ARV, they're waiting for reinforcements to box the cloned Mini in.
03:45It's testing us now.
03:46It is, yeah.
03:49In the meantime, they suspect the driver's toying with the idea of failing to stop.
03:54Yeah, copy.
03:56So, when the Mini pulls up at Roadworks, the lead ARV moves to get in front of it.
04:16A two-car convoy pursues the Mini out of the Roadworks and onto residential streets.
04:22Tomo and Tanya at the back, a Volvo ARV at the sharp end.
04:27Take care.
04:57This is a, um, dead end.
04:59Ah, is it?
05:00Yeah.
05:01I think this is a dead end cover.
05:03It looks like the driver plans to bail out.
05:09Well done.
05:11But not before some dicey off-roading.
05:16He's away on his toes.
05:22With a pack of cops on his tail.
05:32And somehow, he's vanished again.
05:51And it's off.
05:54Interceptors are after the driver of a cloned Mini that failed to stop near the area of a potential burglary.
06:00I think this is a dead end cover.
06:02They've cornered the car, but lost their man.
06:07You weren't that far behind him, really.
06:10He didn't have time to run out of sight, so he must be hiding.
06:15Good news for the heavyweight champion of hide and seek, who, heralded by an ARV police escort, has just arrived.
06:26Enter police dog Peggy, who, unlike us mortals, has not been able to see which way he's gone because of
06:34the wool and stuff, effectively looks straight through bricks and mortar on account of looking with her nose.
06:44Peggy leads her handler, Sean, straight into a garden.
06:51But there's not much doing here.
07:01Or is there?
07:06I think that's German Shepherd for game over, Tanya.
07:12First garden on the right.
07:13Move, you get bit by the dog.
07:15Stay still, fella, don't move.
07:16Peggy's tracked down a suspect in double-quick time.
07:24Keep your hands where we can see him.
07:25Right, you're under arrest, mate.
07:28Keep your hands where we can see him.
07:29Get on the ball.
07:30Get on the ball.
07:31Yeah, we got him.
07:31He isn't playing ball.
07:33Get on the ball.
07:34Get on the ball.
07:34Try it.
07:35Get your hand out.
07:36Ball.
07:36And it's unwise to struggle.
07:39Get down.
07:40There's nothing funny about it.
07:43Because the dog has other modes than track.
07:46You're under arrest, mate.
07:52Luckily for this guy, he's cuffed before Sean gets Peggy to detain.
07:57You're under arrest, mate.
07:59You're under arrest, suspicion of being unfit as well to drive through drink or drugs.
08:05What's your name, chap?
08:06Eugene.
08:07Eugene.
08:08Right, Eugene, roll on his side.
08:10Put your feet out.
08:10You know the drill.
08:11There we go.
08:11Look at that.
08:13All right.
08:14Ready?
08:15Ready?
08:16Two, one.
08:19Tommy, you like to have a mouth?
08:22Two seconds.
08:23I'm going to grab this.
08:24No messing about it, mate.
08:26A set of garden shears here, close to where he was found.
08:30To be fair, it's covered in dew, especially on the handle.
08:32So I think this is just here from the homeowner.
08:36Matt, have you got anything on you?
08:37I need to be aware of.
08:38No.
08:38Any injuries, anything like that?
08:39No.
08:42Peggy found the suspect in under a minute.
08:44Yet he's convinced he nearly got away.
08:47She knew enough to find me.
08:48She was right about half a foot next to me.
08:50She was about to walk off.
08:53Yeah, right, mate.
08:54The dog was looking at me and that actually went to lick me.
08:57And then it went...
08:58Did she?
08:58Seriously, yeah.
08:59Oh, right, yeah.
09:01Sure she did.
09:03Trust me.
09:03I won't, thanks.
09:06And for the record, runaways licked by Peggy often need stitches.
09:10Please go, dog.
09:12Go.
09:12You wouldn't be smiling then.
09:14Well, I'm lucky for you.
09:15It's my life.
09:16She did and here we are.
09:17Let's go check your ankles, mate.
09:19You been drinking tonight?
09:20Nope.
09:21Smoked anything you shouldn't have done?
09:23Nope.
09:24What about the crack pipe over there?
09:25That's me tobacco pipe.
09:27It's tobacco pipe, is it?
09:28Yep.
09:28He smokes a pipe, apparently.
09:30Like Sherlock Holmes.
09:33Are we sure about that?
09:34Yeah, I'm positive.
09:36Something else may be positive in a few minutes.
09:39Right, you're going to be a drug boy.
09:40Right, I must advise you that failing to provide a drug,
09:42while you're being arrested for failing to provide,
09:44they will take you to custody.
09:46The driver's twitchy behaviour suggests he's smoked more than tobacco.
09:51Are you able to stand still?
09:52Oh, not really, am I?
09:54Do you want to lead the case to the wall?
09:55Yeah.
09:56Make it easy for you?
09:57Yeah, yeah.
09:57There you go.
09:58I'll still keep hold of you, though, just in case you don't have to.
10:00My trousers are coming down, that's all.
10:01Have you smoked anything in the last five minutes?
10:03Second.
10:03Have you smoked anything in the last five minutes?
10:05No?
10:05Had any alcohol today?
10:06Had any drugs today?
10:07No.
10:07Okay.
10:08Take your tongue out as far as you can.
10:11Keep going further up.
10:12Yeah, that's it.
10:16It takes eight minutes for the results of the least surprising drug wipe in history.
10:23Right, buddy.
10:24You are being further arrested for suspicion of driving whilst unfit through cocaine in your system,
10:30because you could come back as a positive on cocaine.
10:32You might want to have a word with your tobacconist, Sherlock.
10:35Well, I think you should let me go, don't you?
10:38You reckon?
10:39Yeah, I reckon that would look good for TV, wouldn't it?
10:42Yeah, he's sure he's got money.
10:43I'm not sure about that.
10:44He's got a heart.
10:44I don't think that's what the general public would expect us to do.
10:50Having declined the chance to let him go and prove the police have a heart, they send
10:54him off to custody.
10:56How are you comfortable, aren't I?
10:57I am.
10:58He's anchored to that and all, but I'm not one to my own.
11:03I have met Eugene previously, so I am aware of some of his past.
11:10So he could have been up to some criminality, could have been going for a late night drive.
11:15However, I imagine he failed to stop for us because he is under the influence of drugs,
11:20which, you know, is a crime.
11:22Ours is doctoring your number plate.
11:25Put some tape over the first zero to evade our number plate recognition.
11:32So, not a clone after all, but still illegal.
11:35A bit like his tyres.
11:37The cord is showing through the tyre.
11:41Still.
11:42Fine, you guys, you guys.
11:44Fine, stop.
11:44Have a little sit down.
11:47Wow, zero, zero.
11:48At least he hasn't been drinking.
11:51Of course.
11:52Zero.
11:52It doesn't mean we're going to have to go to the blood procedure to the drug side.
11:55Oh, my.
11:59No further action was taken regarding doctored plates, failing to stop or any allegations of burglary.
12:07However, after refusing to give a blood sample, Mr. Happy pleaded guilty to failure to provide dangerous driving and driving
12:15with the cord of a tyre exposed.
12:17The smile was wiped from his face when he was ordered to pay £187, lost his licence for more than
12:24two years, and was sent down for 32 weeks at his majesty's pleasure.
12:36Do it, get by.
12:38Interceptors make challenging situations look easy.
12:42Come on!
12:45Even at three-figure speeds.
12:48135 mile an hour in this fog is not fun.
12:50But cops aren't born with these skills.
12:53They train within an inch of their lives.
12:58Driving.
12:59Big stop.
13:02Tears are teasing.
13:03Firearms work.
13:06Dog training.
13:09You name it.
13:10Slow yourself.
13:11Oh, get up.
13:12They drill it.
13:19And tonight, Sean's been on an exercise in a key local training area.
13:26As places to commit crime go, this could be one of the worst.
13:31But no-one's told this mob.
13:38Delta 25, I've got a set of fat meals.
13:41One's legged it.
13:43And in the heartbeat it takes to spring police dog Peggy.
13:47Get out, get out!
13:48The rest are away in the van.
13:50It's going to fail.
13:51Stop.
13:51Get in.
13:51Go.
13:56Sean's clocked a man in a high-vis in the back of the van, while two others throw boxes in.
14:02As the dog man stops, high-vis makes a run for it.
14:10Sean and Peggy move in, but the stragglers jump aboard the van and take off, back doors
14:15flapping in the night.
14:19Foul stop.
14:21By the time Sean's got Peggy safely back in the dog van, they're playing catch-up.
14:26The vehicle's left towards Bedford Road.
14:27I'll need some more down here.
14:31Five males doing boxes over the fence.
14:35I've got one run into the Brat Mills in yellow high-vis, four back in the vehicle.
14:40Sean's a master dog handler with 14 years in the unit.
14:43He often works as an instructor in this very area.
14:48I was outnumbered, got back in.
14:49Which, of course...
14:50I've got your location coming to you.
14:52The whole force knows like its own backyard.
14:56Rookie error, coming to a place where we do our firearms training.
14:59Multiple units are descending.
15:01Was he down there doing dog training?
15:04Including Sam at the wheel of an armed response vehicle.
15:06And, alongside him...
15:09Air V2, we're on the A45.
15:11Paul Gale.
15:12So, we've got the dog unit that came across it.
15:16Another dog mobile that's nearby.
15:19Us and then a couple of other ARVs are all making towards the scene.
15:25At the scene, there's an update from Sean, who's kept the runaway van in sight.
15:30Vehicles, Brat Mills, it's D-Camp, D-Camp, Lilliput Road at the end.
15:35Four have bailed out and done a runner.
15:40The bad guys have a good head start.
15:43Come on.
15:44But Sean has an advantage of his own.
15:47Wait.
15:48We've got to cut them off.
15:49Somebody get to, like, the Bedford Road side.
15:52I think they've gone over a security fence in.
15:55CCF, Charlie Charlie Fox, right?
15:57I can't get it.
15:57The gang may have given them the slip.
16:00They've gone over a really high security fence, mate.
16:03Right at the end of Lilliput, but towards the Bedford Road.
16:09Sean opts to check out the van full of stolen goods.
16:14Yeah, to the right.
16:15But more dog units were training in the area, including Ash Price and police dog Eppie.
16:22That's where the four went.
16:23If you go back down that road, turn right, you know, the alleyway on the left that goes to the
16:27car auction place.
16:28The newcomers can go after the first suspect at Leggett.
16:31Yeah, tall lads, yellow vest with a grey tracksuit bottoms.
16:35You might get a track from there, mate.
16:36He went into that alleyway.
16:39Ash's gone back that way.
16:41She's think, get one down now.
16:42I'm just going to work out if I can get through there with her safely.
16:47Sean would dearly love to get Peggy after the four who scaled the security gates.
16:53You've dialed an incorrect number.
16:55Thank you for calling me.
16:57But there's no joy opening them up.
16:59See if I can get in down there.
17:01A bit of wrecking.
17:03Do you know if you can get in any of the compounds down on the right, or is it just
17:07this one?
17:07Just this one?
17:09Yeah.
17:09OK, no worries, thank you.
17:10Suggests there's no other way in.
17:15Right, Pegs, I'll try and get you over there.
17:18So it's a 40 kilo clean and jerk for Sean.
17:24Some agility work for Peggy.
17:26Pegs, hit up.
17:29Good girl.
17:30Right.
17:33And they're in.
17:34Go on, Chuck, Bob.
17:34He's gone.
17:42Peggy leads them straight to a fence at the far end.
17:47I've come through the compound, and I've got to where they've got out, but I can't get it out.
17:52It's due to the end, it's due to the dog.
17:53But home is not lost, because there are useful forensics snagged on their escape route.
18:03So far, just a top and a hat, which they'd use to cover the barbed wire on the fence in.
18:10It's going to go round the other side and see if we can pick the track up from there.
18:13Scop, Bob.
18:14Peggy seems to have a scent.
18:19I've picked up something that's just taken me to the other side of the river now.
18:21I've crossed over, so I'm just trying to work out where it goes from there.
18:24But after a lengthy track...
18:26Let's see if there's anything else.
18:31Where'd you go?
18:32The only thing Sean discovers is that the main group has got away.
18:38And we've picked up a bit of a track, and then come through quite a busy footfall area.
18:42Out towards the main road where we believe they've probably been picked up.
18:45But there are two hairs on this particular track.
18:49And on the other side of the industrial estate, Ash and Ebi are hunting the first suspect to run.
19:00The guy in the high-vis jacket who legged it before the van took off.
19:08It's a tall order when so much time has passed.
19:11But Ebi loves a challenge.
19:15Mate, police my dog.
19:16Get out here now.
19:18Delta 2-6, officer to me, please.
19:20Mate, get out here.
19:22On the floor.
19:23You're going to get bitten if you don't get on the floor.
19:25Stay there.
19:26I'm going to get other cops here.
19:27But you will be bitten if you move.
19:29Do you understand?
19:29Let's hope so.
19:31One detained at the minute.
19:33Right, mate.
19:36I'm going to walk you back to the alleyway.
19:38I'm going to make it perfectly clear.
19:39You do anything I don't tell you to do, you'll be bitten by this dog.
19:43Do you understand?
19:44You're under arrest on suspicion or theft at the minute.
19:46You don't have to say anything.
19:47You don't have to mention when questioned.
19:49Somebody later on in court, anything you do say, maybe give you evidence.
19:52Do you understand?
19:55The firearms boys arrive to help with the arrest.
19:59That's the alleyway.
20:01Keep walking that way, mate, till you see a police car.
20:04I want you to head up towards these officers here, all right?
20:07Have you locked him up?
20:08Yeah, I've locked him up, mate.
20:09If you could just cuff him for me, that would be great.
20:11Just stop there, mate.
20:12Turn around, put your hands behind your back.
20:15Good girl, Abby.
20:16Well done.
20:17Well done.
20:17You're clever.
20:19You got anything on you shouldn't have?
20:20No.
20:21Anything that's going to harm me or you?
20:23Anything sharp?
20:23Like Abby's gnashes, for instance.
20:25Good job, Abby.
20:26Well done.
20:26Which he'd know about if they got hold of you.
20:29In.
20:32You haven't been bitten or anything like that, no?
20:34You haven't been bitten by the dog or anything, no?
20:35No, no.
20:36Sure.
20:37He may not have been on the wrong end of Abby's bite, but he was certainly in the wrong place
20:42at the wrong time.
20:43By chance, Sean and I have just been doing some dog training in this industrial estate.
20:47And Abby's had a really nice track for him up and around this footpath.
20:52And then she's found him.
20:53He'd concealed himself in undergrowth down there, hiding under all the leaves and the shrubbery.
20:57And she's sniffed him out and we've called him out, locked him up and, yeah, walked him back out.
21:04After checking CCTV of the theft with security, it seems the thief brazenly slipped inside the warehouse.
21:15He's been in through the secure area, into the compound, and he's been able to access a pallet full of
21:22high-value clothing and get that out of the main warehouse to the side of the gate where he's the
21:28one throwing it over the fence.
21:30The runner dug out of the undergrowth by Abby is currently under investigation for theft.
21:35And with a forensics bonanza from the van and the clothing recovered by Peggy, he may not be the only
21:42one once CSI worked their magic.
21:45What is for sure, though, is this lot picked the wrong spot for a burglary.
21:52Whilst the dogs came across it because they were here training anyway, it was only a few minutes before another
21:58unit was here.
21:59So it's really good.
22:04Coming up.
22:05Get out.
22:06Get out.
22:07A car thief comes to the wrong county.
22:10Get out of the car.
22:11Get out of the car.
22:11Get out of the car.
22:12You're under arrest of theft of motor vehicle.
22:1520 pallets of shoes.
22:17What's worth there calls for snowshoes.
22:20Oh, God.
22:22We're going to crash then.
22:23Slipping snow here.
22:24And.
22:25You still had no reason to be in lane three.
22:27You should have been in lane one.
22:28You weren't overtaking anything.
22:29The dream of everyone who's ever met a middle lane hog.
22:33You may well be offered a driving standards course.
22:48When it comes to commercial theft, there's no link in the supply chain that's safe.
22:56We've already seen a warehouse get turned over.
22:58Get out.
22:59Get out.
23:00Five males doing boxes over the fence.
23:05But bad guys are just as likely to strike on the shop floor.
23:09Or.
23:10There's parcels falling out of the back of the vehicle.
23:14Anywhere in between.
23:15So this will be where they've cut the side.
23:17And given that that Luton van was half full of these boxes, I would say we've probably prevented
23:22quite a high value theft.
23:35It's the dead of winter and a freezing shift for Lloyd and Harrison.
23:40Stolen from trailer.
23:41But things are warming up on Interceptor FM.
23:45The driver doesn't speak English.
23:47She's contacted his daughter.
23:49She's woken up to see his trailer.
23:52And it's been cut open.
23:55Reports are on the airwaves of a Curtainside theft.
23:59She had 24 pallets in total.
24:01I think there's four pallets left.
24:04Of high fashion footwear.
24:0520 pallets of shoes.
24:08Curtainciders slash fabric lorry sides then cart off the goods inside.
24:13Often in an HGV of their own.
24:16What time did it hit?
24:18At 1.59.
24:20The cops think they've identified the getaway lorry.
24:22It's not giving a location for the image.
24:26But it seems invisible to all but a few ANPR cameras.
24:31Harrison thinks he knows why.
24:33I'm just looking at it on Nas.
24:35It looks like it's potentially got perspex over some of the hits.
24:38Copy that.
24:39If the bad guys have obscured their plate, it's not enough to fool every camera.
24:44And certainly not enough to fool Harrison and Lloyd.
24:47The only place it's going to go, isn't it, is the A1.
24:49Working from scarce confirmed camera locations, they plot a route to intercept.
24:55We're looking for a HGV that's potentially been involved in a high value theft of pallets in Northampton.
25:01They've just got a wrench of it and it's definitely a cloned vehicle.
25:05I think we know where it's going to be going back to.
25:08It's going to be a case of seeing if we can catch up with it.
25:12Harrison's stopped his fair share of getaway vehicles.
25:15But this one will be a taller order than most.
25:20It's going to take some stopping.
25:21But hopefully, if it hits another camera, we're not too far away from it.
25:25Based on its direction of travel and last known location, the target seems to be heading for the border.
25:32It's going to be going to the A1s.
25:33Yeah, 100%.
25:33I might have Lincolnshire, let them know.
25:35Yeah.
25:36They're normally pretty good, to be fair.
25:38Harrison gives the neighbours a heads up.
25:40Link's receiving November Golf from me, Papi 6-4.
25:45Right, Edinburgh.
25:47It's actually a vehicle that's potentially going to be heading back towards the A1 at Stamford and probably going north
25:52on the A1.
25:53It's going to be what looks like probably a 7.5 tonner.
25:56It's been involved in a Op Barrick in Northampton town centre.
26:00Op Barrick is a cross-country initiative to tackle gangs who rip off lorries.
26:05Just for your awareness, it's probably coming onto your force area, we'd expect.
26:09Hop's done.
26:12Neighbouring forces are usually quick with support, but there's a problem.
26:16Just for the weather conditions, though, we're limited, our resorts into urgent sort of high-priority institutions.
26:24Just for the risk of us, but yeah.
26:25Due to their weather conditions, they're not going out for it.
26:29Curbing resources for bad weather seems overly cautious.
26:34Oh, God.
26:36Until Lloyd crosses the border and learns the cold truth.
26:40It's slipping snow in here.
26:41It's snowing. The A1's a death trap.
26:44Oh, we're going to crash then.
26:46And serious speed is not an option.
26:49I'll have to slow down, mate.
26:50Do you feel this?
26:51Yeah.
26:51It drifts off the road, then.
26:52It's snowing here.
26:54This is not what the good guys ordered.
26:56It's actual snow.
26:58Lloyd's driving a kipper on ice.
27:00Just because of the weather conditions, we're not going to get involved.
27:03Lincolnshire are out of the picture.
27:05We'll monitor what the NPR are obviously doing, and the changes will react.
27:09And a lorry load of swanky shoes is slipping away in a snowstorm.
27:13I do appreciate what you said about the weather conditions.
27:16It wasn't like this in our county.
27:18Lloyd and Harrison are off their patch and on their own.
27:22The thing is, they've only got three ARVs that would help us, so we're not with it, are we?
27:27But North Hans don't like to throw in the towel.
27:31We are on the A1 in your force area, though.
27:33So are you happy we keep going, or do you want us to cancel?
27:36It's true, but this is not worth the risk.
27:39Well, can you stand down?
27:41Yeah, it's copied.
27:42The film's cancelled, does it, mate?
27:45Game over.
27:47Lloyd needs to turn back at the next junction.
27:50This is the one that got away.
27:54Is that it?
27:56Or is it?
27:58Is that it?
27:58Yeah, that's it.
28:01The clone lorry is up ahead.
28:03Contact, contact.
28:05Just go past it, mate.
28:06And there's more than one Maverick on the A1 tonight.
28:09He's got a marked cams leader behind him.
28:12A sole Linköcher unit has stumbled on the target and kept behind it.
28:17Just go past it, mate.
28:19With a cross-border wingman in the fight, it's got to be worth another round.
28:24So Lloyd ducks off the dual carriageway,
28:26and Harrison shouts up the Iceman in the lorry's slipstream.
28:30We've got another three-packed car that should be with us in a couple of minutes.
28:34Another unit's flying in.
28:36And there's hope a third county can lend a hand.
28:39Trying to hit any other surrounding forces.
28:43Yeah, that's copied.
28:44We'll rejoin behind you.
28:45A few lorries back.
28:47Copy that.
28:48But as Lloyd and Harrison rejoin the A1,
28:51the rogue lorry makes a beeline for a slip road ahead.
28:54It just looks like it's pulling off standby.
28:57Shit.
28:58Where are they?
28:59The marked Linköcher car has pulled off behind the target.
29:04Its occupants can be in no doubt now that they're being followed.
29:08They're aware of following them.
29:09They can get out of money very quickly.
29:11Everything spells decam.
29:13You ready for this?
29:14Yes, mate.
29:15Let know we're with them.
29:16Let know we're with them.
29:17Let know we're with them.
29:18Let know we're with them.
29:19Let know we're with them.
29:32Police officer, show me your hands now.
29:34Show me your hands now.
29:35Get out of the car now.
29:36I've got a bad name.
29:37Yeah, get out.
29:38Police officer, Taser.
29:39Step out of the vehicle now.
29:41The driver has a crook knee,
29:43which may explain why he didn't sprint in the snow.
29:46I'll be careful with you.
29:47You've got a Taser on you.
29:48Stay where you are.
29:50And he limps out of the cab straight into cuffs.
29:53All right, give me your hands.
29:54Give me your hands.
29:54Give me your hands.
29:55You're in rest at the minute from theft at the minute.
29:57Probably no license, no insurance.
30:00The vehicle's cloned as well.
30:01It's a great collar,
30:02but in this weather and location...
30:06The arrest is no picnic.
30:08We've got one detained.
30:10We'll have a chat with you.
30:10I need to get you in this car.
30:11I'll wait because obviously it's shit weather
30:13and I don't want you to...
30:15What's up with your knee?
30:16I don't know.
30:17I don't know.
30:18Cut.
30:20So, the 24-pallet question...
30:24What's in the back?
30:27Oh, yeah.
30:32From 6-4, it's full of unsecure, badly-packed boxes.
30:40They're all just falling out onto us.
30:42Yeah, I'd say it's going to be this vehicle.
30:45Do we know what the contents were?
30:49Asos clothing.
30:50If the shoe fits...
30:51Yeah, we've got all Asos parcels here.
30:54And there are plenty of them...
30:56Oh!
30:59It looks like she's literally just been handballed across.
31:01It's not even properly stacked or anything.
31:03It's a seven and a half turner, full front to back.
31:07It seems nailed on that this is their lorry.
31:10It's got all the stolen stuff in the back
31:12and he's got no licence, no insurance.
31:14So, yeah, it's a really good result,
31:16especially for the driver who's had all his stuff nicked.
31:19But he said it's high value,
31:20so it'll be in there probably tens of thousands,
31:23so he'll think he'll be pretty pleased
31:24that we've managed to get it recovered
31:26and get the defender in custody.
31:28I appreciate there's more people out there,
31:30so it'll be nice to have them as well.
31:33But, you know, we'll take this,
31:34and as long as we get the stuff back
31:35and we get names in there,
31:36obviously, you've got someone in custody for it.
31:38Go on, mate.
31:40Harrison's suspicions of how the lorry
31:41evaded ANPR cameras were bang on.
31:44It's got a, essentially,
31:45got a film over the top of it,
31:47a thin layer of film,
31:48which is meant to mask its true identity
31:50from the ANPR cameras,
31:51but as you can see, it doesn't always work.
31:55No further action was taken against the driver
31:58with a dodgy knee regarding any allegations
32:00of theft from a motor vehicle.
32:02However, he pleaded guilty to driving
32:05without a licence or insurance
32:06and fraudulent use of a vehicle registration mark.
32:10He got eight points on his licence
32:12and a £280 fine.
32:17I'm really surprised he stopped,
32:19especially in the snow,
32:20because that would have been,
32:21if he'd have wanted to drive his way out,
32:22he probably could have done it.
32:35Ever encounter a driver
32:36hogging the middle lane
32:37and wish you could give them
32:38a piece of your mind?
32:43What is he playing at?
32:45Well, amazingly,
32:46it happens to cops, too.
32:48The black BMW sat in lane three
32:50at the motorway
32:51for absolutely no reason,
32:53not overtaking.
32:55And the beauty is,
32:56cops can do something about it.
32:59So we're going to give him a stop
33:00and advise him about driving.
33:03Charlie and Charlie
33:04overtake the right Charlie
33:06in the Beamer
33:06and hit the follow me sign.
33:10He's holding right back again.
33:12Behind them,
33:13the driver slows to a crawl.
33:18He's coming.
33:20Slowly.
33:22But he eventually limps
33:23up the main road
33:24and into a car park.
33:31Go on.
33:34Hello, sir.
33:34How are you?
33:35Are you OK?
33:35I'm all right, yeah.
33:36Do you have your licence on you?
33:37Yep.
33:38Wonderful.
33:38Thank you, sir.
33:41So the reason we stopped you today
33:42was the fact you were travelling
33:43in lane three.
33:45OK.
33:45Why were you travelling in lane three
33:47of the motorway with no reason?
33:49No?
33:51What you were doing
33:51by travelling in lane three
33:53was basically causing a blockade,
33:55OK?
33:55Because cars were having to go
33:56from lane one to lane two
33:57to lane three to lane four
33:58to pass you
33:59to come back into lane one
34:01which is where you should have been.
34:02Amen to that.
34:03You were travelling
34:04at less than 50 miles an hour.
34:06There was a speed limit
34:0750 miles an hour.
34:08Not at the bit you were in.
34:09Either way,
34:11even if it was a 50 mile an hour limit,
34:12you still had no reason
34:14to be in lane three.
34:15You should have been in lane one.
34:16You weren't overtaking anything.
34:17OK?
34:18OK.
34:18Is that really all right?
34:19Sorry, I'm just checking your tyres, bud.
34:21Yeah, yeah, yeah.
34:21His car and docks are in order
34:23but if he's hoping to get away
34:25with a talking to,
34:26he's going to be disappointed.
34:28What's going to happen next?
34:30You're going to be receiving a ticket
34:31for driving without due care and attention.
34:33One down,
34:34several thousands to go.
34:36Lane one is your default lane,
34:38especially when you're travelling
34:38at 50 miles an hour.
34:40But the great educating of lane honks
34:42has to start somewhere.
34:43You may well be offered
34:45a driving standards course
34:46in relating to this.
34:47It's down to our traffic process team.
34:49Ticket issued, sermon complete,
34:51it's back on the road.
34:54Just in time for something
34:55a bit more tasty.
34:57It was stolen from Nottingham Leisure Centre
34:59earlier on this morning.
35:01A car stolen in the next county
35:03has been snapped on the M1
35:04heading this way.
35:06Stand by for the bump.
35:08The boys plot up above the motorway
35:10to look for it.
35:12It's a green slash murky yellow
35:14looking Fiesta.
35:18The Ford Fiesta is the most common car
35:20in the UK
35:20with around one and a half million
35:22in circulation.
35:24Yeah, Charlie's going to get out.
35:26But not many answer
35:27to the description
35:28green slash murky yellow.
35:31We're going to shift out the way, mate.
35:33Just hide the car.
35:43And it doesn't take long
35:44to get a sighting.
35:46It's there, it's there,
35:47it's there, it's there.
35:48Go.
35:50Time to intercept.
35:521-1, stand by, stand by, stand by.
35:55Eyeball, subject vehicle.
35:57M1 south, junction 16
36:00towards 15 alpha.
36:02Now with two marked cars on its tail.
36:05We're going to hold back.
36:06Rez.
36:07Rez, yep.
36:08Got it.
36:12The Fiesta is a few hundred metres
36:14in front of the cops.
36:16It's just ahead of us,
36:18lane two,
36:19in front of the lorry.
36:21It's tucked in between two HGVs
36:23and hard to keep tabs on.
36:25Is it coming off?
36:25Potentially.
36:28The target may be leaving the motorway,
36:30but the cops have lost sight of it.
36:32Can you see him?
36:32No, it's in front of the heavy,
36:34but I'll see it if it goes over to the lorry.
36:35The red lorry, yeah?
36:36Yeah.
36:36They need to keep the stolen car
36:38in the crosshairs
36:39until enough units arrive
36:40to box it in.
36:42We're waiting for some T-Pack resources.
36:45It's gone, lane one, mate.
36:47Charlie slows
36:47and following the highway code
36:49pulls into lane one
36:50where they can monitor the exit slip.
36:53Yeah, yeah, yeah.
36:53Get as much fuel as possible.
36:55If the Fiesta ducks off the motorway,
36:57they don't want to miss it.
37:00If he gets into the services,
37:01we'll do a reinforce
37:02if it comes to a stop.
37:04Yeah, nice one.
37:04The target's passing the slip.
37:07Oh, he's off.
37:07He's going to go, mate.
37:09He's going to go, mate.
37:09No, he's dived off at the last minute.
37:14There's the ARV.
37:16The stolen Fiesta now has three cars
37:18tailing it,
37:19including the unmarked
37:20armed response vehicle in front.
37:23What would it be on you
37:23if it comes to a stop
37:24for a reinforced?
37:27He's on the garage forecourt,
37:30boxed in like they're pre-packed sarnies.
37:35Get out.
37:36Get out.
37:36Get out of the car, mate.
37:37Get out of the car.
37:38Get out of the car.
37:38Andy's next.
37:39You're under arrest
37:40of theft of motor vehicle.
37:41You do not have to say anything,
37:42may on your defence,
37:42if you don't mention when questioned.
37:44Something which you've late
37:44rely on in court.
37:45Anything you do say
37:45may be given in evidence.
37:48I'll go.
37:51Lean against this car here, buddy.
37:53Just lean against it.
37:54Do you understand what's going on?
37:56Well, I don't know.
37:58I mean, I didn't get what I mean.
38:00You don't get what we mean?
38:01This car was stolen
38:03earlier on today
38:05in Nottingham.
38:06You're now driving a stolen car.
38:08No, no.
38:08So you're under arrest.
38:10OK, you're going to go to custody.
38:12Sorry?
38:12You're going to go to custody
38:14and you'll be interviewed about it there.
38:16In the meantime,
38:17the owner of the Fiesta
38:18will be very relieved to get it back.
38:21It's got a disabled walker in the back.
38:24Not only is there a walking aid in the back,
38:26but the boot's packed
38:27with pricey-looking fishing gear.
38:32And the little fishy who nicked it
38:36is being hauled in
38:40and put on ice.
38:42Thanks very much.
38:43Enjoy your stay.
38:49The middle lane hogger is off the hook
38:52as no further action was taken.
38:55The thief reeled in on the M1
38:58and landed on the forecourt
38:59pleaded guilty to theft of a motor vehicle.
39:02He got a four-week suspended sentence
39:04and was ordered to pay £154 in charges.
39:08Meanwhile, the owner got his car
39:10and fishing gear back
39:11in double-quick time.
39:15So within a few hours
39:17from the car being reported stolen,
39:19we've now got the car recovered.
39:21There's no damage to it.
39:22So all in all,
39:23a really, really good job
39:24and resolved within a few hours.
39:31Coming up...
39:32The tree's absolutely massive.
39:34When you can't see the wood for the trees,
39:37start off small...
39:39Clear.
39:40...and then go massive.
40:01It's 2.30 and Storm Bertie
40:04has blown chaos into the county.
40:07Oh Christ, alive!
40:10Interceptor James Condon
40:11is at the scene of some storm damage
40:13to offer his expert horticultural appraisal.
40:18Oh, it's only a little one then.
40:20Yeah.
40:21A monster tree has come down
40:23on the A4500.
40:26Yeah, this is going to need
40:28a full closure.
40:30The tree's absolutely massive.
40:33In the absence of Special Branch,
40:35it falls to JC to check it out.
40:38I'll go and have a little look at the tree
40:40and see what...
40:41Well, if anything we can do...
40:47She's one for the hat.
40:49This is...
40:51The storm's wreaked havoc,
40:53reaching speeds of over 100 miles an hour.
40:57Wow.
40:58Storm Bert.
41:00Which might not trouble a pursuit car...
41:03That's huge.
41:04But it has proved to be
41:06a high-speed tree Terminator.
41:08This could have been fatal.
41:10If this had gone over
41:13and a car had come past,
41:14I would say this could have been fatal.
41:17Mercifully, no-one was hurt.
41:19And now the mission begins
41:20to clear the road.
41:22Erm, yeah.
41:24Yeah, it could be a waiting game
41:25for this one.
41:28Cleared.
41:30It's looking like a long afternoon
41:31for JC.
41:35Until reinforcements roll in.
41:37Ask some questions
41:38and see if he wants to start
41:39pulling some stuff out of the way for us.
41:40A local logger is on hand to help.
41:43We've got that to be out now.
41:47He's got the tools
41:48and he's got the numbers.
41:50He said he's got a yard full of lads
41:52that can come down
41:53and literally sort this out.
41:55Time to release the big guns.
42:08He's not allowed to touch it
42:10unless he gets permission
42:11from highways or the county council.
42:15Stand down the big guns,
42:16roll out the red tape.
42:18He's just going to call him now.
42:21With U-turn chaos on the carriageway,
42:23everything hinges on the man
42:25from the council.
42:29Commission, run.
42:32Hello, mate?
42:33He said yes!
42:38We might not be here as long as we thought
42:39we were going to be.
42:43With chainsaws smoking,
42:46the chipper in full flow,
42:50and the crane doing its worst,
42:54it's all systems stopped.
43:00Unfortunately, due to contracting issues,
43:03they weren't able to do the full job.
43:07The council may have authorised the work,
43:09but they won't pay for it,
43:11and community spirits can only go so far.
43:15Out of goodwill,
43:17they've opened a lane for us,
43:18so we've just got to tidy up a little bit more
43:20before we can consider
43:21letting any more traffic come through.
43:25But Charity, like leaves,
43:26is thick on the ground today.
43:28And within minutes,
43:30a local car recovery team
43:31offers to muck in.
43:34Community volunteers, round two.
43:36Guys just stopped at the road
43:37and asked if he could assist
43:38with pulling it out the road.
43:41So I've taken him up on his offer
43:42and explained the situation,
43:44and he's said he's going to give it a go.
43:48With no contract issues,
43:49I hope, this time.
43:55Well, he's got part of it.
43:57It's a big ask.
43:58Go on then, watch back.
44:04Especially for trucks designed for cars,
44:07not trees.
44:08Who cares about that?
44:10But with plenty of horsepower.
44:15Gets it out of the way, doesn't it?
44:18And a bit of ingenuity.
44:19Easy, look at that.
44:21Two hours after JC arrived on scene,
44:25he's helping sweep up the last few twigs.
44:28Have a nice weekend.
44:30The coast is clear.
44:34Thanks to a truckload of community spirit
44:37and a trunk full of elbow grease.
44:40Yeah, we've certainly earned our cup of tea,
44:45definitely.
44:47Certainly earned our end-of-shift beer,
44:49I think, tonight as well.
44:51Tremendous.
44:53Yeah.
