Opere di artisti afro-americani, alla National Portrait Gallery
Trascrizione
00:11As you may have guessed, I don't think there is anybody in my family who has ever had a portrait
00:17done, let alone a portrait that will be hanging in the National Gallery, at least as far as I know,
00:25mom. I know Jill's in traffic. Thank you. I'm also thinking about all of the young people,
00:32particularly girls and girls of color, who in years ahead will come to this place and they will
00:41look up and they will see an image of someone who looks like them hanging on the wall of this
00:47great American institution. Thank you all for being here. We love you. I know the kind of impact
00:55that we'll have on their lives, because I was one of those girls.
01:16How about that?
01:20That's pretty sharp. His initial impulse maybe in the work was to also elevate me and put me in these
01:28settings
01:28with, you know, partridges and scepters and thrones and shift robes and
01:41mounting me on horses.
01:47And I had to explain that I've got enough political problems without you making me look like Napoleon.
01:58We've got to bring it down just a touch.
02:02So how do you explain that a lot of that is just simply not true?
02:07But I can't believe in you.
02:07I don't know if you're an actress.
02:16You're going to get me.
02:21Grazie.
