00:00Donald Trump is known for his devil-may-care attitude with regards to political rhetoric.
00:04That is to say, he pretty much says whatever he wants.
00:07However, now that Ron DeSantis, Florida governor and presidential primary candidate
00:11whose platform revolves around an anti-woke agenda, is in the race,
00:15the former and possibly future president is changing his tune somewhat,
00:19saying he's over-attacking wokeness.
00:21During a talk in Urbandale, Iowa with a conservative organization, he had this to say.
00:25It's gone sick. And I don't like the term woke because I hear woke, woke, woke.
00:29You know, it's like just a term that used half the people, can't even define it.
00:32They don't know what it is.
00:33This is a big turnaround for Donald Trump, who has used the term and condemned wokeness
00:37in countless public statements and speeches in recent years.
00:40Now, however, it seems it has been co-opted by DeSantis.
00:43In Florida, we say very clearly, we will never, ever surrender to the woke mob.
00:49Our state is where woke goes to die.
00:52So what is wokeness or a woke agenda?
00:55The problem is there's a lot of disinformation about it.
00:57And the term has been mutated by those who want to weaponize it.
01:00For instance, Florida Politics reported previously that DeSantis' own communications director
01:05said it was a slang term for progressive activism.
01:08However, wokeness or being woke is simply the idea of being aware of social injustices
01:13and discrimination.
