'48.000 nuovi nati nei campi del Bangladesh nel 2018'
Trascrizione
00:09In 2018, we're expecting more than 48,000 Rohingya babies to be born in the camps in southern Bangladesh.
00:17And these babies will immediately begin their lives at a disadvantage.
00:21They're living in really overcrowded camps.
00:24The situation is really, really grim.
00:26There's poor hygiene standards.
00:28And so, for those babies to be born into that situation is a major concern.
00:37So, one of our major concerns is the risk of an outbreak of disease.
00:41Because of the poor hygiene standards, the fact that people don't have enough nutritious food,
00:47there is a heightened risk of outbreaks of disease.
00:50Like, we've already seen diphtheria.
00:52We're also concerned about potential outbreaks of cholera or measles.
00:55And there's a lot of diarrhoea in the camps as well.
00:58And so, for a baby to be born into that kind of environment is a huge concern.
01:06The absolute number one thing that we need at the moment is more funding for the humanitarian response.
01:13The international community has been generous, but we need them to step up again and fully fund the humanitarian response
01:20plan,
01:20which is just 60 per cent funded at the moment .
