00:08A storm is coming.
00:35Corey, I want to start things off by asking you if Jay Cargill has the psychological advantage
00:42that he did in this matchup tonight, because in its 24-hour period just last weekend, Friday
00:47night's SmackDown and then Saturday night's main event, Cargill was able to deliver Jayden
00:52not once but twice to Rhea Ripley and also pinned the champion in a tag team matchup.
00:57To answer your question, absolutely yes, I do think Jay Cargill has a psychological
01:03advantage, not to mention the confidence possessed by this woman.
01:08I caught up with Jayden earlier today and I asked her, what went wrong at WrestleMania
01:12and how do you stop it from happening again tonight?
01:14Jayden looked me dead in the eye.
01:16She said, Rhea Ripley didn't beat me at WrestleMania.
01:19I beat myself.
01:20I got caught up in the pump, the circumstance, and the bright lights of the biggest stage.
01:25That doesn't happen tonight.
01:26Jayden says she hits Jayden tonight and leaves Italy with the gold.
01:32Interesting comments from the former champion.
01:40Even in defeat, I think most of the world would agree.
01:43Jay Cargill put on a career-defining performance at WrestleMania, even though she came up short.
01:48If Cargill can shift her focus tonight, make a few small adjustments, we may have a new champion tonight.
02:07This right here is what Cargill needs to be careful of.
02:11Dealing with the WWE fans.
02:13We've seen on numerous occasions, Jayden take her eye off the proverbial ball and pay for it.
02:20This is what looks like, Jayden!
02:36The WWE fans.
02:38The WWE fans.
02:39The WWE fight.
02:54For the first time in her career, Rhea Ripley, in a matchup here in Italy, a country that
03:01she holds near and dear to her heart.
03:04Her grandpa and her grandma, who she was extremely close with, grew up here in northern Italy.
03:10And then they would move to Australia, of course, where Rhea Ripley was born and would
03:16go on to start her wrestling career.
03:19Rhea said very emotional for her to be a part of this here tonight.
03:23Well, it served Rhea well to keep those emotions in check tonight, unless she chooses to channel
03:29them toward her opponent, Jay Targill.
03:31Yes, we've seen, history has proven, Rhea Ripley is almost impossible to bet against when
03:37the stakes are as high as they are tonight.
03:40But Jade Targill is waiting.
03:42She is waiting for the moment to strike, to upset Rhea Ripley, and to turn the women's
03:49division upside down once again.
03:50Rhea Ripley, of course, beat Jade at WrestleMania with her first title defense since that night
03:56in Las Vegas.
03:59Targill is on a roll.
04:00We mentioned the win over Ripley in the tag match last week.
04:04Friday night on SmackDown, Jade knocked off Alexa Bliss and then delivered a jaded to Bliss
04:10to a steel chair.
04:12That was a statement making absolutely sure that Jade has all of Rhea's attention.
04:36Let's check in with Alicia Taylor.
04:40The following contest is scheduled for one fall.
04:44It is for the WWE Women's Championship.
04:52introducing first the challenger from Vero Beach, Florida, Jade Corgill.
05:09And her opponent from Adelaide, South Australia.
05:18Rhea, she is the WWE Women's Champion, Rhea Ripley.
05:33So let's talk about strategy in this matchup.
05:36First for a very confident champion in Rhea Ripley.
05:39I think Rhea Ripley needs to be very careful that she doesn't overlook or underestimate Jade
05:45Cargill.
05:46Yes, Rhea was successful on the grandest stage of them all at WrestleMania, but Jade Cargill
05:51has obsessed about that night since it took place.
05:54Jade was, to an extent, humiliated on the grandest stage of them all.
05:59This is Jade's opportunity to right the perceived wrong tonight in Italy.
06:03Corey, if you're Jade Cargill, how do you quote, right that perceived wrong tonight?
06:07Deliver the heavy artillery early and often.
06:11This could come down to the Riptide versus jaded.
06:14Which of these two women can land their finishing maneuver first?
06:25And a collar and elbow tie-up to start things off in this matchup for the WWE Women's Championship.
06:32Remember, this is still somewhat unfamiliar territory for Rhea Ripley, not having the power advantage.
06:38Rhea has always had the strength advantage, usually the size advantage over most of her opponents.
06:43That's not the case with the bigger, stronger Jade Cargill.
06:49Well, let's go, mommy champs for the over 12,000 here tonight in Italy.
06:55It was taken down by Rhea Ripley, and they're still in the collar and elbow tie-up.
07:00You know, Ripley did find a way to offset the power advantage of Jade at WrestleMania.
07:07And Rhea does have an abundance of tools at her disposal.
07:11Rhea, when need be, can take a high risk.
07:14She can push the pace of a matchup.
07:16That may give her the edge she needs to get past Cargill tonight.
07:19And there again, the power of Cargill as she slams Ripley in the middle of the ring.
07:25And now a bit of a...
07:27I can't agree with this.
07:29I understand this is Jade's prerogative.
07:31This is who Jade Cargill is.
07:32But she's dealing with Rhea bloody Ripley.
07:35Don't get too comfortable.
07:37Yeah, she just paid for it.
07:39Ripley begging Cargill back to her feet.
07:41Sends Jade outside the ring.
07:42Rhea looks to pick up the pace.
07:44There's that drop kick.
07:49Rhea feeding off this crowd.
07:52Oh, went for the cannonball.
07:53Jade able to intercept and then deliver a right hand.
07:56Jade just stuffed out a suicide dive attempt by Rhea Ripley.
08:02That was incredible.
08:02And now with Ripley up on her shoulders and driving her into the apron.
08:08And it is so hard to combat power.
08:16And again, a nice right on the jaw.
08:19That certainly rocked Rhea's world.
08:25Cargill's in love with herself, isn't she?
08:27That certainly seems to be the case.
08:29It's worked out fairly well for her so far.
08:32Into the ring to break the count.
08:34Cargill understands that count outs and disqualifications don't help her.
08:38She must pin her, submit the champion.
08:39And that's something of a skill in and of itself.
08:42The ability to completely disregard and tune out the WWE universe.
08:45That's what Cargill...
08:47Oh!
08:47If anything, Cargill panders to their disdain, to their boos, and feeds off of them almost in reverse of how
08:54Rhea does.
08:54Follow a slam to the champion.
08:57And Cargill now controlling Ripley.
09:03I like the pace of Cargill tonight.
09:06Taking her time.
09:07Much more deliberate.
09:09And we're used to seeing a smart strategy.
09:10Because again, as much as Jay Cargill may not personally like Rhea Ripley, Jay does have a modicum of respect
09:17for the abilities of Rhea Ripley inside the ring.
09:19You have no choice when you're defeated on the grandest stage of the mall by someone.
09:24And we have the fans here in Italy trying to whip Rhea Ripley out.
09:32And Jay talking trash.
09:39And again, to your point earlier, it's not often that we see Ripley woman-handled like she's been here tonight.
09:46There's an unfamiliar sight, and now Cargill just stomping away.
09:50Using the long legs to her advantage.
09:57Complete disdain for the official.
10:03Notice how deliberate in all of her movements Jay Cargill has been to this juncture.
10:08No wasted motion, no wasted effort.
10:11Everything counts.
10:12And Ripley into the corner with authority.
10:15What a whip by Jay.
10:18And again, just showing off here tonight.
10:20Why not?
10:21She's dominating the champion.
10:29Ripley in serious pain here.
10:31You saw her favoring her lower back.
10:36It would serve Jay Cargill well to continue focusing on that area.
10:40Cover.
10:41Snap.
10:41Suplex into the cover and a kick out by Rhea.
10:48I like this pace of Cargill tonight.
10:50It's very smart.
10:52It's very deliberate.
10:52It's very methodical.
10:54But it leaves minimal room for Jay Cargill to make mistakes.
10:59Sometimes when you get in the ring, you get rocking and rolling.
11:02You get ahead of yourself.
11:03You make unforced errors.
11:05And that's what Cargill had to avoid tonight.
11:06And she's done so thus far.
11:08And Ripley showing some fight.
11:10Big uppercut by Cargill.
11:12Cargill drops the champion again.
11:14And it's been a one-sided affair here in the early going.
11:17I'm honestly a little surprised at how one-sided it's been.
11:19Rhea Ripley has been essentially ineffective to this point.
11:24And Rhea with a kick.
11:26And now a chop.
11:28Trying to fight back into this.
11:29Another chop by the champion.
11:31Driving Cargill back toward the corner.
11:34Cargill reverses it again.
11:36Rhea Ripley back first into the turnbuckle.
11:42Jay just continuing to impose her will.
11:45Every rally that Ripley has had, Corey, has been snuffed out by Cargill.
11:51Decisively as well.
11:53Now another suplex delivered.
11:54Floats into the cover.
11:57And an air fall again.
11:58And a kick out at two by the champion.
12:00And again, perhaps an example of where Jay Cargill is making mistakes.
12:04She didn't hook the leg.
12:05It was a bit of an arrogant cover.
12:07You're not going to beat Rhea Ripley like that.
12:09I don't care who you are.
12:13This is for the WWE Women's Championship.
12:18Currently held by Rhea Ripley.
12:23Of course, defending a Friday night smackdown as Ripley delivers body shots
12:28and then just ripped to the floor by Cargill.
12:36And this has been alarmingly one-sided so far.
12:40It's been pure dominance.
12:47Again, Rhea showing signs of fight.
12:50Cargill with a right hand.
12:52Stuns Ripley.
12:52And again, the power of Jay.
12:54And that can be super frustrating.
12:55Nobody hold.
12:56If you're Rhea Ripley, you're firing off the best shots you can muster.
13:00And they're having little to no effect on the challenger, Jay Cargill.
13:03Cargill missed with the attempted elbow.
13:05And that may be a mistake because Cargill went shoulder first to the post.
13:08And now the champion has an opportunity to rally.
13:17Ripley with a couple of close clotheslines.
13:22Kick caught Jay right under the chin.
13:25Face first goes Cargill.
13:29Missile drop kick to the back of the neck.
13:36And Rhea beginning to rally.
13:41Rhea Ripley.
13:43Wait.
13:43Oh!
13:44A German suplex.
13:49Ripley giving chase to the outside.
13:52And now Rhea connects.
13:54And Ripley starting to feel it.
14:04And Rhea now climbing up top.
14:10Missile drop kick.
14:13Pulls to the cover.
14:15Hooks the upside leg.
14:17Near fall.
14:20Well, it seems to me as though Rhea finally realizing she's got to show the challenger something new.
14:27Taking it high risk.
14:28Picture-perfect missile drop kick from the top turnbuckle.
14:31But not enough to put away the storm.
14:36Now it's Rhea who cannot become frustrated.
14:39You saw her once again favoring the lower back.
14:48Does Rhea have enough left in the tank to muscle up Cargill?
14:51Yes, she does.
14:53Oh, no, she doesn't.
14:55Jade Cargill turns into a back body drop.
14:57And again, psychologically, that can destroy a compelling.
15:01Ripley kicked both women down.
15:03Rhea was going for razor's edge.
15:05And Cargill was able to count him.
15:07But then a well-placed kick by Ripley.
15:09And this right here could be a turning point in this match.
15:16Rhea!
15:18Rhea!
15:21Rhea!
15:27This is, in fact, awesome.
15:34Champion and challenger face-to-face.
15:45Here we go.
15:47Both women unloading the heavy artillery in the center of the ring.
16:00And Rhea Ripley looking again in the upper hand.
16:03Jade went for that pump kick.
16:04Here it comes!
16:05And Jade now looking for jaded.
16:07Rhea Ripley able to duck underneath, went for a drop kick.
16:09Sidestep by Jade.
16:11Jade went for the running knee.
16:12Headbutt by Ripley.
16:14I think Jade might be out on her feet.
16:16And Rhea now in position for riptide, but Jade fights out of it.
16:20Credit to Cargill, who clearly did her homework.
16:23She's had multiple counters ready for just about everything Rhea has attempted tonight.
16:28Yeah, Ripley, though, delivered a kick again.
16:30And now has Cargill where she wants her.
16:31This time, will it work out in Rhea's favor?
16:33Again, bad back.
16:34And a modified razor's edge delivered that time to Cargill.
16:39And a shining wizard by Ripley.
16:42Cover now.
16:42Hook to the leg.
16:43Kick out by Cargill at two.
16:45And you've got to wonder if the bad back didn't allow Ripley to hit all of that razor's edge.
16:49Certainly not with maximum impact, which may be the only reason Cargill is still in this matchup.
16:57Rhea Ripley feeling the effects of this battle.
17:00The physical exhaustion on the face of Ripley and Cargill for the WWE Women's Championship.
17:15Cargill back to her feet.
17:16Ripley as well.
17:17Rhea now.
17:18Oh, wow.
17:19Electric chair position.
17:21Jade, though, trying to hang on to the top rope here and fight her way out of this.
17:25Uh-oh.
17:26Jade trying to pull Rhea over the top.
17:28And oh, no.
17:30And Rhea hit hard.
17:31The lower back.
17:32The lower back.
17:32Hit really hard on the apron.
17:34Ripley.
17:34Rhea Ripley doesn't allow to affect her.
17:36Face first goes Cargill.
17:38How the hell is Ripley standing?
17:40I have absolutely no earthly idea.
17:43Cover by Ripley.
17:44To retain.
17:45Kick out.
17:48I'm certain Cargill asking herself the same question.
17:52How is Rhea still in this fight?
17:55Did you see how her lower back hit the apron as she came over the top?
17:59I thought that was it for Ripley.
18:02That makes two of us.
18:03But Ripley able to fight through the pain.
18:06Feeding off the live crowd in Italy.
18:09Feeding off the adrenaline.
18:11And the will to defend her WWE Women's Championship.
18:15Rhea could be looking for Riptide.
18:18Here we go.
18:20And now Jade Cargill though able to counter.
18:23And Jade now looking for Jade.
18:24And Rhea Ripley able to slip underneath.
18:27Ripley now again in the Riptide position.
18:30Cargill turns it into a DDT.
18:32What a counter by the number one contender.
18:35You don't have to like her.
18:37But damn it.
18:38Put some respect on Cargill's name.
18:40And here's the cover by Cargill.
18:42We are watching the maturation process of Jade Cargill in real time tonight.
18:48We are seeing before our very eyes Jade Cargill become who she has told us she's been since she arrived.
18:56Yeah.
18:56The critics be damned.
18:58Cargill could be closing in on the WWE Championship.
19:02Jade now with Rhea.
19:03Rhea though lands on her feet.
19:05Did the back give out.
19:06Cargill into the corner.
19:07Nobody hold.
19:09Ripley now misses wildly.
19:11Jade Cargill.
19:12That's it now powerbomb for the win.
19:14Ripley's got to kick it too again.
19:16Another near fall.
19:18And his frustration starting to set in.
19:20It definitely is.
19:21And that's exactly what Cargill needs to avoid after a blue thunderbomb failed to put Ripley away.
19:28Jade needs to figure out how to keep her foot on the gas pedal.
19:31She is this close to the finish line.
19:35An incredible atmosphere here tonight in Italy.
19:39Sold out crowd.
19:41An Alpe arena.
19:42Jade Cargill could be closing in on her second reign as WWE Women's Champion.
19:50Jade to the top rope.
19:51Rhea Ripley meets her there with a chop.
19:54Questionable decision by the challenger Cargill.
19:57Yeah, Jade has still stayed well within herself, Corey, up to that point.
20:04Rhea going to meet her there.
20:08Cargill trying to find her footing.
20:10This could backfire in spectacular fashion for the challenger.
20:16Although Jade now hooking Ripley.
20:19Top rope.
20:20Superplex.
20:22Rhea Ripley trying to capitalize.
20:25Crawling.
20:26Tore to cover.
20:27Hook of the leg.
20:29Another near fall for the champion.
20:31And now Rhea has to wonder, what the hell do I have to do?
20:35Ripley's beside herself right now, Cole.
20:40I think reality is finally sinking into Rhea Ripley.
20:44This isn't the same Jade Cargill I've been at WrestleMania.
20:47Oh, no.
20:47What's your problem?
20:48B-5 and Meechon marching to the ring.
20:51And you had to wonder where Jade Cargill's backup was.
20:55And when they were going to show up tonight.
20:57Oh, Rhea.
20:57And Ripley now out.
20:58Oh!
20:59Pumpkin by Cargill.
21:01Rhea should have expected this.
21:03And off the distraction.
21:04Rhea turns it into a stop to the midsection.
21:07Ripley now.
21:10Looking for Riptide.
21:12This could do it.
21:14Riptide connects.
21:16Cover on Cargill.
21:19And Meechon able to grab the leg of Cargill and place it on the bottom rope.
21:26I think that's going to cost B-5 as well it should.
21:30She got caught red-handed.
21:35Our official understands the magnitude of the situation, the importance of the championship.
21:40That was B-Fab who put Ripley's leg, I should say Jade's leg, on the bottom rope, allowing this matchup
21:46to continue.
21:49Now's not the time, Rhea.
21:56Hey!
21:58The Queen!
21:59Charlotte Flair is here!
22:02And Jade's got a score to settle after Jade put her partner and friend Alexa Bliss through a chair Friday
22:10night.
22:11Another pump kick in the ring from Cargill.
22:14Jade's going to steal this thing.
22:15Here it comes!
22:17Looking for Jade in!
22:18Cover by Cargill!
22:21And turn him out of spare play!
22:23This time Charlotte saving Rhea's total reign!
22:36Two paths that seem to cross inevitably.
22:42Jade Cargill, Charlotte Flair.
22:45Cargill muscling up Ripley.
22:47Ripley now with a headbutt.
22:49Hooking Cargill.
22:51Rip time!
22:53Stacks are up!
22:56Ripley retains!
23:00Here is your winner, and still, the WWE Women's Champion, Rhea Ripley!
23:13Well, Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair, Corey, found a common enemy, and were able to put their animosities aside tonight.
23:24Well, ladies and gentlemen, still to come over on the ESPN app with the unlimited plan.
23:28Tribal Combat.
