00:03:59you're a millisecond out you give a penalty away and they're back in the game and yeah it's a tough
00:04:03one to take but you know what a journey i think this team has taken the arsenal fans on from

00:04:07they were to where they are now one of the best team in the premier league one of the best

00:04:11you know they're in a position now where they can strike that was obviously the architect
00:04:15the sporting director there with louise enrique he's done a brilliant job of recruitment but

00:08:37there for a number of years at arsenal it's his first professional role as well jack and like we
00:08:41say they'll learn a lot but you know they're going to be back yeah they'll be back they'll be back

00:08:45just talking on their defending their mentality to defend i think as much as the ball as they had i

00:08:50they had what one shot on target in the first half which is outstanding and there's a real desire to
00:08:54protect their goal and yeah you look at their back four they're a good age they're going to be back
00:08:58next year they've got a manager who is hungry he's ambitious he wants to he wants to push he wants

00:09:03demand more he said that before the game about not settling just for the premier league and they'll
00:09:07definitely be back lord they'll definitely be back they'll be hungry they'll be hurting from this
00:09:10but they'll be back next year we've said credit to luis enrique but credit as well to michael arteta
00:09:14because this game i don't think went in the way a lot of people were expecting it to go
00:09:19but i think it went the way michael wanted it and i think that's you know that's the point i

00:09:23i thought kai habits played instead of jokeres because you could play off him and that's where
00:09:28the goal came from he came short to get the ball and then spawning behind i thought michael did a
00:09:32brilliant job of doubling up making it difficult taking away the space from psg which these attacking
00:09:37players had against by munich where they exploited brilliantly i thought the game plan was there but
00:09:42jack made a good point they probably scored a little bit early because they defended so deep psg has 75
00:09:47position but you know what it's again we said the margins are so fine laura at this level and it
00:09:53penalties are just one of the worst the best and worst ways to decide again incredibly fine one kick
00:10:00yeah it's it's one of those things you know arsenal will be back bigger better stronger they'll be in
00:10:06the transfer market as i say this is the start really i think for arteta the confidence of winning
00:10:11a premier league you know you're just one penalty kick away really from becoming european champions
00:10:17so i think that's a great place to build from sometimes you've got to experience the hurt

00:10:33probably what was in arsenal's fan in the back of their heads going into going into this game is it

00:11:12have had heartbreak in the champions league and have come back and now they've done it back to back
00:11:15how much do you think the experience of winning it last year played into this year well obviously this
00:11:21season was a lot harder and that was down to arsenal you know they absolutely psg absolutely
00:11:24destroyed into last season and i thought arsenal did a brilliant job of making a really difficult
00:11:29game for psg but they showed i think that's the thing they've shown laura you look at the boss
00:11:34there in the picture it was all about the superstars and the glitz and the glamour it's not about that
00:11:38anymore it's about the team the recent rate case turned this this group of players into a team
00:11:42they work incredibly hard and again i don't think it was pretty today laura but they found a way to
00:11:47get the job done and that's what winners do and i think credit to them and the fans the fans
00:11:53as well
00:11:53guys that we've just seen there the arsenal fans that have traveled followed their team far and wide
00:11:58and they're going to be experiencing the absolute heartbreak of this champions league loss
00:12:02they've got to try and find a way though to look back at the premier league and look at that

00:12:06say this team are winners and they can go on and do so much more well i mean the club
00:12:11in europe you
00:12:13know this is another penalty shootout that they've lost that's that's the third now in the club's
00:12:17history it's not the one they're trying you know you just got to keep pushing until that door opens
00:12:23for you but these players have been absolutely magnificent to a man this season i mean the different
00:12:28permutations of the back four the number of fullbacks that have played you know looking
00:12:32at declan now declan's been immense that double engine that twin engine that he's had he goes
00:12:36off to a world cup now what a penalty as well yeah he's been first class it's credit to the
00:12:41players
00:12:41but it's also it's a big credit to michael because how he's how he's turned around this club you know
00:12:46i think we were talking before martin about what we were lacking when when i was in the team we
00:12:51were
00:12:51lacking leaders and what what were we going to become we're going to become a team that
00:12:54you know we were soft we played nice football but michael changed that because you know he he's
00:13:00taken every single part of the club you talk about josh as well josh is really brought into what michael
00:13:05is doing he's aligned everyone the the players the staff the fans and that's what i think they'll
00:13:10come back because it's not built on on sand this is a real process that has strong foundations and
00:13:15they'll come back from this they were built as the underdogs tonight and they took psg who are the
00:13:19defending champions of the champions league all the way through to penalties and i think that's
00:13:23something they could be proud of now as the remaining players get their runners-up medals

00:14:49a kiss on the way past i mean this kind of competition could throw up unlikely heroes i mean nobody

00:14:56lucas barralda would be the player to score the winning penalty in a shootout based on the fact
00:15:00he's barely seen the field in the champions league this season no immense bravery i think anyone who
00:15:04steps up to take a penalty at this level this stage of the competition a brave immense courage

00:15:23tonight but it is a team of such style a team of wonderful individuals who plays the complete team

00:22:47i'm just i've never been a big fan of the stutter step i just think it puts you under more

00:23:31and then i think as a he's trying to overcompensate the opposite corner he's not really setting his mind
00:23:36and he just puts like look at this he's waiting waiting little starter the keeper's like okay
00:23:40i'm going to put it to the left and he he goes that way and he tries to then to
00:23:44reverse it i think
00:23:45he's trying to whip that round and he just puts too much on it but see if the goalkeeper stands
00:23:49still on the stutter step it puts down in the attacking place doesn't it jack yeah yeah and you
00:23:52can see as i wasn't sure was he thought and you martin you made a great point you probably just
00:23:57overcooked it a bit yeah you're right it's almost like exactly what you said owen the stutter run up
00:24:03obviously trying to put the keeper off but it was almost too long like too much and then he kind
00:24:07of got in his own head jack yeah i think at some point he probably as well he put too

00:24:11but he probably made the decision of what way he was going but you're right the goalie the goalie
00:24:15stopping and waiting and waiting and waiting you've got a decision to make and yeah you could be really
00:24:19clear let's not saying right i'm going to stutter but i'm still going to go the same way but then
00:24:23there is a moment where you have a little bit of doubt and he he obviously had that thought he

00:24:27put a little bit more on it and yeah i think we should say though about the courage that it
00:24:32takes
00:24:32oh definitely step up yeah and take those penalties you you're standing there and you're like hold on
00:24:37who's going to take this so gabrielle steps up of course and then this is the next one i think
00:24:42that was a lot of courage but that's important i agree anybody that steps up hats off to you
00:24:47but i would say you know it takes courage to step up but but i think you've got to take
00:24:51a little bit of
00:24:51a doubt out of that and if you if you start a step i think you can give yourself a

00:24:56more doubt pick your corner and smash it in there do you know what i mean we talked about this

00:25:11that you felt like he might save a penalty what was this feeling martin well at that point i'm starting
00:25:16to feel it's going to turn and there's some luck and this is already way better than the penalty
00:25:20shooter i was involved in by the way many years ago um and i thought you know but this could
00:25:25turn now
00:25:25and their crowd just quietened a little bit it's a great save but then the next one i don't know

00:25:29i can't remember who it was that's a big one that's a big one because i think stevie said it
00:25:32in
00:25:33in commentary like that's a momentum swing like just because he saved it and then you have to step
00:25:37up the next one and put it away and i thought they'd done that well yeah and that was deckland's

00:25:42and and he was in in a way he's such a leader and you you almost as he stepped up

00:25:48you knew he was going to put that one away yeah i think there's no doubt with deck his technique

00:25:52mean you saw the three kicks he scored last year like when when he connects and he hits it sweet
00:25:56then no one's saving that and um yeah he he was clear with that in his mind and he he
00:26:00stepped up
00:26:01and you you didn't have any doubt he was going to miss let's have a look at gabrielle's penalty
00:26:05because boraldo stepped up he'd obviously come off the bench and his penalty was incredibly pressured
00:26:10and so was gabrielle's and this was the moment yeah again man there's another bit of stutter
00:26:16step in there i think hopefully we got another angle of it where just before he shoots he kind
00:26:21of looks up and i think even that is so jack i think technically that's such a hard thing to
00:26:26do to
00:26:27you know yeah he's looking up i would have just been focused on the ball but but again the goalkeeper
00:26:33guesses the right side and then maybe does he feel he has to put a little bit more on it
00:26:37and you lift it
00:26:37the ball just takes off in those situations yeah look you need a bit of luck in these kind of
00:26:43situations as well and and arsenal didn't win either of the tosses didn't get to take the first penalty

00:39:55obviously now they're having their time and i feel like that's going to keep happening with us you
00:39:59know we're having these small losses um but we're going to go on and keep pushing to try and achieve

00:40:08is it is it a moment to be hurt for tonight but be really proud of what you've achieved and

00:51:26to win their first champions league is that maybe something that you can take away from today they've
00:51:31had to work so hard to win their first one they've had to work so hard today to beat you

00:51:35yeah and we know the teams that they had in the past and they are superb team congratulate them
00:51:40um they are really difficult to play against that's why they are champions um two times in a row and
00:51:46um and individual quality they have the manner they are coach they are a top top team and just looking

00:53:11and he'll be so determined to go again in the transfer market to really improve the quality in
00:53:16that squad and their finances are in fantastic shape so i would say this is a season of success of
00:53:22progress nearly even greater history and they're really in good shape under michael arteta to go on
00:53:28tell us obviously winning the premier league makes a huge difference but tell us about those finances
00:53:32and and what they've done this season that's been so different well they're on track to break premier
00:53:36league records for revenue it could go up to about 770 million pounds which has never been done they're
00:53:41going to cross the 300 million pound mark um for television money which has never been done so this
00:53:47is fantastic the revenues are going through the roof at arsenal it's a period of of milk and honey if
00:53:53you if
00:53:54you like uh that wasn't always the case they they were a they were a team who was struggling post

00:54:00stadium move uh they posted uh profits but that was because they were selling a lot of their best
00:54:05players they weren't competing they went i think it was something like 15 or more years of making profits
