Imagine being in the middle of a shallow sea, but in front of you there is a giant blue hole with a diameter of almost 600 meters!.

That is a brief description of The Middle Caicos Ocean Hole, one of the WIDEST blue holes on earth. Its location is in the Turks and Caicos Islands, an exotic Caribbean region under British territory.

It's not easy to come to this place, the area is surrounded by a super shallow sea. So if you want to go here, the best way is to use a Jet Ski or a special flat boat with a local guide who knows the safe route.

The depth of this blue hole is about 76 meters. But even though it is not as deep as other blue holes, this place has a scientific and mysterious appeal that is strong enough to attract the attention of scientists especially when looking at the water condition.

So on the surface, the water is rich in oxygen and filled with marine life. But when entering a certain depth, there is an extreme separating layer so that at the bottom, the water is completely low in oxygen (anoxyic) which makes ordinary marine animals unable to live there.

And interestingly, when the bottom of this hole was investigated, it turned out that there was an ancient ecosystem and a lot of special bacteria that produced hydrogen sulfide gas. This gas is indeed toxic. But the good news is, due to the presence of a very extreme separating layer at the depth, finally the bacteria and the ancient ecosystem are still isolated in it. Then why are scientists so interested in researching this place? Yes, in short, because there can be some "unique" things in it, it is a picture of life on earth billions of years ago. So we may be able to find some new things in that place.

What do you think, what do you think is more interesting about this place? Just let me know in the comments!
