00:03I want to do this because as I was listening to this interview you talked
00:07to when you were in this crash in in Germany I believe you were you you were
00:13t-boned and the the real concern at the time you were losing blood at an
00:20alarming rate after the accident and the gentleman's name who was there and who
00:25stopped again yeah stop the bleeding you reunited with him years and years later
00:33after the crash and it was a quite a moment in your life and his life can you
00:38tell people what that was you you were talking now with the man who saved your
00:42life well he actually happened a year and a half after the accident the medical
00:50crew those days was was captain by a doctor called Steve Olvey and and Terry
01:00Trammell was the one that actually came to the scene right after the accident he
01:06actually slid on what he thought it was like engine oil but it turned out to be
01:11my blood and so I'm sure it was very hard for him to to act like a doctor and not
01:18considered that he was kind of rescuing one of his friends so an year and a half
01:24after that happened I went to Canada to watch one of the IndyCar races and I got
01:31to see him and after a little bit I went to the medical center and I said you want
01:35to see how the situation fixed up after the time and he said sure and I took my
01:42prosthetical legs off and and he just broke down in tears and he said Alex you
01:47don't understand this but I mean to see you laughing cheating people and and being
01:53the same guy you were for me I mean he's just gonna make me sleep tonight because
01:59it's I mean I haven't slept much in the past year and a half it wasn't easy for
02:04me to overcome what had happened so in one blink of an eye I basically understood
02:10what it meant for a lot of people not just him what had happened because I mean I
02:15I was sleeping you know all the way and when I woke up I just felt so happy for
02:20having had the opportunity to carry on with my life that's the way I am you
02:25know and I'm no good no bad for that that's the way I am and luckily it is the
02:31way I am remarkable because your life changed he saved your life and now here you are in this
02:42part of your life and congratulations it's just a wonderful thing well thank you but I guess you
02:48know curiosity is all you need in life and if you are curious enough you're gonna find your
02:55passions and when you find your passions I mean it's just gonna be everything is gonna be so
03:01natural and even the results you get whether they're big or small are just the logical consequence of
03:07how much passion you put on your daily routine in building up you know you can take every day as
03:13a new
03:13opportunity to add something to your life and day after day you may end up in London winning a gold
03:19medal where if somebody would have told me a few years before I would have asked him what if you
03:25sniff you know me in the Olympic Games I'm a race car driver you know so yeah life is funny
03:31I mean I
03:32didn't know what I would have been doing October 11 2014 on January the 1st 2014 so you just have
03:42to go
03:43for it whenever it's possible without you know letting this dominate you but if the opportunities
03:51available why they why shouldn't you try and with this type of attitude I guess I came back to a
03:57fantastic
03:57type of life where all the things that I'm doing these days are more and less related to my new
04:02condition well you don't have you don't have legs but you're certainly not handicapped right that's it
04:10that's the way that works
