00:02I guess the reason I'm really thrilled about this is I'm a basic scientist.
00:09I did not get into these studies to try to cure cancer.
00:13I got into them because I wanted to know how T-cells worked.
00:17And once we showed that this molecule CTLA-4 was the first cell-intrinsic negative regulators
00:26of immune responses, it immediately occurred to me and some of the people in my lab that
00:31maybe we can use this to unleash the immune system to attack cancer cells.
00:36And so I'm lucky enough as a basic scientist to see my work actually end up 20 years later
00:44actually really helping patients.
00:47I'd like to just give a shout out to all the patients out there who are suffering from cancer
00:53to let them know that we are making progress now.
00:58We can get durable responses in a fraction of patients with many, many different kinds of cancer.
