00:00Today we're visiting three firehouses on the Rockaway Peninsula that are in terrible disrepair.
00:05On Monday we have a hearing, a budget hearing, an executive budget hearing for the fire department
00:11and they wanted to come out with the commissioner, with her chiefs, to let her know this is what we
00:19need,
00:19this is what we're going to be asking the mayor for, the money necessary to fix these houses
00:24that have terrible physical infrastructure, that are dangerous, there's mold, and their roofs are collapsing.
00:32And I think that prior to a hearing it's always good to see it rather than just hear us tell
00:39about it.
00:40So the worst moments have been the roofs, and the roofs have then deteriorated everything else, right?
00:48Because the water comes down, and what we're seeing is that the City of New York does things backwards.
00:55So this particular firehouse is going to get new windows now, but in the out years their roof will be
01:03fixed.
01:04So the roof will continue to leak on the new windows, so by the time they get their new roof,
01:09they will need new windows again.
01:10So they're just not doing it as you and I would if we were reconstructing our home or doing any
01:16type of renovation.
01:18So that's what we want to make people aware of, is that the City needs to change its priorities
01:25and how they do things, their procedures.
01:28And the OMB can't hold City Council money and say, no, we will give you the additional money in the
01:34out years.
01:35City Council money is now money.
01:37When it's provided by a council member or by the Speaker's office, it's now money,
01:41and OMB shouldn't be holding on to it.
01:43If a roof has been funded, the money should be made available immediately.
01:47Our first piece will be the windows, which we have the funding, we already have the approved CP,
01:52and now we're just waiting on a task order registration.
01:54That could be within a month, six weeks, and that contract is ready to mobilize immediately.
02:00We are constantly working on a daily basis, a weekly basis, with OMB,
02:05and looking into accelerating the funding for the multi-component building envelope restoration
02:09to bring that forward in hopes of the window phasing right into the multi-component project.
02:15How much money will you be able to want?
02:17A second million dollars.
02:24How much money will you be able to do this?
02:26How much money will you be able to do this?
02:26How much money will you be able to do this?
02:26You
