00:00What's behind the Blue Origin rocket explosion?
00:03The New Glenn rocket was getting prepped in Florida for a trip that was supposed to deploy
00:08a batch of satellites for an Amazon network called Leo.
00:11Then the rocket experience with the company is called an anomaly.
00:15Jeff Bezos posted on X that all personnel are safe and accounted for.
00:19They are working to find the root cause and will rebuild whatever is needed to get back
00:24to flying.
00:24It's a major setback for Bezos and his company as it tries to compete with SpaceX, the dominant
00:30player in space launches.
00:33Blue Origin has made some progress in its drive to compete with Elon Musk's rocket company.
00:38It's playing a key role in NASA's program to send humans back to the moon, and it won
00:43a NASA contract to send land rovers to the moon.
00:46The Leo satellite network, a potential rival to SpaceX's Starlink, has also secured contracts
00:52to work with airlines like Delta.
00:54But the New Glenn is years behind schedule and has faced long waits in between flights.
00:59In April, New Glenn successfully took off for a third flight and landed its booster in a
01:04company barge at sea.
01:06However, the upper portion of the rocket failed to put the satellite it was carrying into the
01:10proper orbit.
01:11Meanwhile, Musk's SpaceX is preparing to go public in a blockbuster IPO that could raise
01:17as much as $75 billion, far more than any company in history.
