Trey Knowles’ Julius Caesar Thumbs Down is a musical allegory comedy that reimagines the assassination of Julius Caesar in a dramatic gladiator-style UFC arena outside of Caesar’s throne. The work transforms the historic betrayal into a symbolic battle between pride, power, justice, and destiny. As senators surround Caesar and seek the repeal of Publius Cimber’s banishment, the scene unfolds with intense theatrical dialogue adapted from Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. Caesar stands firm in his authority, declaring himself “constant as the northern star,” refusing every plea, bow, and petition brought before him. The senators kneel one by one, presenting humble requests, but beneath their gestures of submission lies a conspiracy that will soon change the course of history.

In Knowles’ interpretation, Caesar’s assassination becomes an apocalyptic spectacle resembling Armageddon itself. The arena erupts as the people witness the fall of a ruler whose confidence in his own permanence blinded him to the danger surrounding him. Amid the chaos, the crowd cries out that evil will never win and that the righteous will inherit the earth, turning the tragedy into a moral and spiritual lesson about the consequences of pride and the triumph of justice. Music accompanies the unfolding drama, amplifying the tension between earthly power and divine judgment. Through satire, symbolism, and historical reenactment, Julius Caesar Thumbs Down presents a thought-provoking reflection on leadership, humility, betrayal, and the ultimate victory of righteousness over corruption.

00:27UFC is coming to the White House.
00:30Now, I've seen this before in history.
00:34This is where Julius Caesar gets assassinated.
00:37This is where Julius Caesar gets assassinated.
00:45Yeah.
00:47All the senators took vengeance in their own hands.
00:52But the funny part, this is the funny part, this is the funny part.
00:56No one commits suicide.
01:00No one commits suicide.
01:02That means no one feels guilty of what they've done.
01:08No one commits suicide.
01:10No one feels guilty.
01:13And even Iran says, what a shame, what a shame, what a shame.
01:20Most high, most mighty, and most puissant Caesar.
01:30Matilda Simba falls before the throne, bowing low, speaking sweet words, hoping to change a decree already spoken.
01:42But Caesar stands unmoved.
01:44I see the crowd gathered around, some praising, some pleading, some hoping power will bend to emotion.
01:50They bow low, they kiss hands, they offer compliments, thinking authority can be purchased with flattery, thinking truth can be
01:59altered by popular demand.
02:00But Caesar said, these lowly contests may move ordinary men, but I'm not moved by sweet words, nor melted by
02:08the language of fools.
02:09Thumbs down, thumbs down.
02:14Thumbs down, thumbs down.
02:14The crowd gives a verdict.
02:16Thumbs down, thumbs down.
02:27Thumbs down, thumbs down.
02:33Brutus speaks, Cassius falls to his knees, voices rise one after another, repeal the decree.
02:39Change your mind, show favor, make an exception, but Caesar answers.
02:43If I were like you, I could be moved by prayers.
02:46If I could be persuaded by begging, then begging would persuade me.
02:50But he would not bend, not because he hated the man, not because he loved power, but because a ruler
02:57without consistency is ruled by the crown.
03:00Thumbs down, thumbs down.
03:05The masses have spoken.
03:07Thumbs down, thumbs down.
03:10Your principle remains.
03:12The crowd can cheer, the crowd can boo, but character is revealed when the pressure comes through.
03:18Thumbs down, thumbs down.
03:21Thumbs down, thumbs up, thumbs down.
03:24I am constant as the northern star, a fixed point in a restless sky.
03:29While opinions drift, while loyalties change, while kingdoms rise and fall, the northern star remains.
03:36Not because it is popular, not because it is applauded, but because it stays true to what it is.
03:48Today they bow, tomorrow they betray.
03:52Today they praise, tomorrow they condemn.
03:54The same voices that cry, long live Caesar, can become the voices that bring Caesar down.
04:01Thumbs down, thumbs down.
04:03Such is the judgment of crowds.
04:05Thumbs down, thumbs down.
04:06Such is the danger of living.
04:08Thumbs down, thumbs down.
04:10For applause.
04:11Thumbs down, thumbs down.
04:12I hear the verdict.
04:14Thumbs down, thumbs down.
04:16I hear the crowd.
04:17Thumbs down, thumbs down.
04:18But I will nay be ruled by shifting opinions.
04:21I will not surrender to temporary fall of a manodic star.
04:26Thumbs down, thumbs down.
04:29Thumbs down, thumbs down.
04:32Thumbs down, thumbs down.
04:33I stand.
04:34Thumbs down, thumbs down.
04:36Thumbs down, thumbs down.
04:37I've never spoken.
04:38Thumbs down, thumbs down.
04:42But I will no.
04:44It goes down, it goes down, it goes down
04:48And I'll remain now
