00:04Today on the show the best campfire potatoes you've ever had. Braving the weather for a few
00:10Gold Coast catches. And later on footy season is back as Cam Rainer joins us for a day on the
00:18green.
00:20First what makes a campground the best hip camp in the country? Let's find out.
00:24I'm Jana and I'm Brian and we're in the beautiful area of Imbil. And we're on a hip camp called
00:32Maluka Park.
00:34In 2025 we were lucky enough to win best hip camp in Australia which absolutely you know blew us away.
00:42We were we were really honoured and quite surprised but yeah. We can't believe it but we did.
00:52Maluka Park is our family farm and we've been here for 34 years and originally started with
01:00drought master cattle and Arabian horses. We're breeding them and then we progressed to camping.
01:08105 acres and we've got a kilometre of Yabba Creek frontage and yeah it's we just love it. It's a
01:15beautiful spot.
01:19Heaps of space between all the campsites. Most people love that and the green grass. They just
01:26love the green grass and there's no bindi's. They don't like bindi's. We've got a beautiful bush walk
01:31up in there and look out on top of the hill you can see all the campsite and all the
01:35mountains around
01:37and the kayaks. And the kayaks. We select different sites as they book them in for if they've got caravan
01:43or
01:43got a motor home or they've just got tents or whatever they've got and we put the caravans in
01:49their positions and the motor homes in their positions and the tents take whatever position
01:53they want. You're not camped on top of each other you've got so much room.
01:59I think also people feel safe here. You know we're tucked away down the back. We greet everyone that
02:07comes in so we meet every single person that comes to camp and we take them to their site and
02:12we explain
02:13a little bit about the campsite and the rules and regulations and I think it's that personal touch too.
02:25You've got Lake Barumba so lots of things to do in the in the local area.
02:32So when I when we do the when we go out training the horses I was going up the roadway
02:38and in summer
02:39it's so hot and I said to Brian I am going to plant a row of trees so that when
02:43we go out riding
02:44we're in the shade especially when we come home.
02:54You do meet all sorts yeah different nationalities here a lot of times and people where they're from
03:00yeah I got another farm up the road and been up there all day and don't see anybody and something
03:05goes wrong real bad and just leave it behind and come home here and walk down there and talk to
03:11some
03:11campers and just completely forget about what I was doing and go back the next day and have
03:15another go at it that's all but that works really good for me to get out and meet people.
03:20I think I think a lot of people that have actually camped here in summer have said you know we're
03:25coming back in winter um and of course the campfire gets you know they love a campfire it's a bit
03:31hard
03:31in summer when it's 38 degrees and it's the humidity is high but.
03:35winter's just as good as the summer really but the the water's a bit colder that's the only difference.
03:45If you ask us there's not a lot that can cure campsite hunger like a good campfire cook-up.
03:51Cooking over coals just makes everything taste better. Add a camp oven into the mix and you're
03:56really cooking. The key to a good camp oven though is the cow. I'm sure there are plenty of camp
04:02ovens out
04:03there that have stood the test of time as we know if you look after your cast iron it'll look
04:08after you.
04:09After you've used your camp oven for dinner or in my case a damper there's a few things you should
04:14know before launching into cleaning it. All right first tip don't use detergent it actually eats
04:20away at all the oils inside the cast iron and absorbs into the pores so the next curry that you
04:25make is going to taste like soap. All you need to do is get some water to rinse it out
04:30and a gentle brush
04:31or some paper towel to remove any stuck on bits. Once that's nice and dry get yourself a bit of
04:36cooking oil and a paper towel and lightly coat the inside of the oven. You can also do this with
04:41spray.
04:42And that's it easy as that ready for your next trip.
04:47To get hold of your own camp oven head online or in store to BCF.
04:52Thanks Liv. Now the camp oven's ready to go. Benny's got something on the boil over the fire.
04:57Crispy camp potatoes coming up after the break.
05:06It's that time of year and the weather's cooling down and that means for me
05:11campfire cooking and I love cooking over the flames. We're going to be doing the world best
05:16crispy campfire potato. There's a little trick I'll show you in a sec.
05:25Typically you would put your potatoes in cold water and bring them to the boil in cold water and that's
05:30so you're going to even cook throughout your potato. But today we want to make the outside of our potatoes
05:35as soft as possible. So we're going to get them into boiling water. A nice pinch of salt because you
05:41want
05:41to season those potatoes really well through the whole cooking stage. Now the secret ingredient to
05:47this dish is bicarb soda. And what that does is it makes the water really alkaline and the alkaline
05:53breaks down the starch in the potato on the outside of the potato. It makes like a starch paste and
05:57that
05:57becomes really really crispy when you fry them off. Lid on 10 to 15 minutes.
06:11You can see they've broken up a fair bit. The skin has released itself from the actual potato itself.
06:20And then we're just going to go in with the potatoes. Be careful. Now you want this quite hot and
06:26we're
06:27going to go seasoning again. So we season the water. We're going to season the actual flesh of the potatoes
06:32now. Really important part. The key to cooking your sausages on a skillet is not too hot. You can't
06:42really go too low unless there's no heat at all. But if you go too hot you're going to burn
06:46the outside.
06:47You're not going to cook on the inside. And you do not want that.
06:54Always have veggies on hand. So I've just got a few baby capsicums here. I'm just going to throw
06:58them in with the pork sausages. So with canned cooking it's not always about heat, heat, heat.
07:09You want to be able to modify and temper your heat a little bit. So that's why we've got the
07:13steak here.
07:14And what that does is it allows us to bring these up and down. We want to give those
07:17potatoes enough time to get really crispy. We don't want them to burn. You can see there now
07:23they're just going so crispy. Just before you finish cooking into the potatoes you want chopped parsley,
07:30bit of rosemary and some garlic cloves just to bring out those flavors.
07:41So they're those skins that I said to leave on. They kind of fall off and they just create these
07:45little
07:45bits of extra crispy potato which is what we want.
07:54And that there ladies and gentlemen is the world's best campfire crispy potatoes,
07:59pork sausage and a bit of veg. The perfect winter snack.
08:04Gold Coast is known for its glitz and glamour. Big, loud and fun. And that energy doesn't stop its
08:11surface paradise. Water parks, bars, pools. It's a great location across the road from Moviewell,
08:18Topgolf and Wet n' Wild. Everything's nice and clean. Get dry, washing machine, good water park,
08:25good community, good food. It's great. And there's really big slides there too so you don't have to go to
08:30the word wild. You can just have fun if you wanted to.
08:33So we got our 200 series and then our latest Trooper 236 and we bought the caravan about
08:40about a month ago just for camping and spawning around Australia and just a bit of family activity.
08:49So we have a hammock over there. We have our chairs kind of set up here. This is kind of
08:54where we eat
08:55dinner at night. We put a projector up there sometimes for movies just before bed.
09:02Yeah, we like to ride around a lot to the jumping pillow and pool and things.
09:0721 foot Kokoda caravan. We only came from Brisbane this time, not far with the ramp. We're in a camper
09:15trailer before that so it's nice to have the luxury. And then before that was a tent. Before that was
09:20a tent, yes.
09:25I got one. What's yours?
09:28Actually, I don't have one. Oh, I know what Millie's is. Loki. Loki.
09:33This little baby.
09:39Still to come, Lions Premiership player Cam Rayner is behind the wheel.
09:48And back on the Gold Coast for a stellar mixed bag.
09:52We want you. Yeah, baby. Yeah, baby.
10:05The weather may not be ideal, but when has that stopped me?
10:09My man with good mate, Bo Sawyer.
10:13So we've just left Jacob's World. We've travelled 15 minutes.
10:17Yeah, not very far, mate. Down to the flathead. Now, we're going to chase a species today that
10:20we both regard, like I reckon, it's the most targeted species. The family's probably chasing
10:26the rivers and creeks. Yeah, absolutely.
10:27And we're using soft plastics? We are, mate.
10:33We're on the flats targeting, well, flathead.
10:36So what's going to happen, as that tide goes up, all that bait fish, all those bait fish are going
10:40to
10:40push up into those mangroves. So those flathead are going to sit along these mangrove lines.
10:45Yep. And what's going to happen soon, hopefully, as that tide runs out,
10:49that bait has to move off as well. Yeah.
10:51And that's when the flathead will feed very hard along that edge,
10:54smacking all the bait that's coming over.
10:56Well, usually you want to try and match the hatch. So whatever size bait you see flicking,
10:59that's the lure you want to throw. Yeah.
11:01We've been seeing a lot of bait sort of in that size at the moment,
11:04so that's why we're using those little three-inch Z-mans.
11:06Really good consistent lure in that colour as well. So motor oil or midnight oil, really good colour.
11:16Oh, yes. That's a monster, mate.
11:23That was an 80-plus, unfortunately, mate. That was huge.
11:28Unlucky. What did we do wrong there? Nothing, mate. Sometimes they're just better than us.
11:34I guess the timing just has to be right.
11:38In southeast Queensland, you actually prefer those cooler months, mate,
11:41when that water temps a bit lower. So that June to July is an excellent time to get plenty of
11:47numbers.
11:47Yeah. And then we get a really good spawning bite around September, October,
11:51when the fish actually head out quite deep.
11:57He's well hooked, bro.
11:58There he is. Come on, little fella. Come on, into the net.
12:05Oh. Okay, well, I'm going to take that.
12:11Because, yes, it's raining. I've brought the weather with us.
12:14And as you saw a little bit earlier, Bo is estimating I may have hooked one in high 80s.
12:20Yeah.
12:20That was a proper fish.
12:21Proper fish.
12:22And I haven't been able to get over it.
12:23Disappointment. So now I've got this nice little one, but I'm still happy.
12:27So I've got two very nasty spikes here on their head, so you want to keep your hand away from
12:31there.
12:32And what we do is we just, there's a little indent in there I can press on it,
12:36and that will actually subdue the fish a little bit and get that hook out.
12:42That's it. That's my little flatty.
12:45So the rough rule of thumb is you want to fish light enough that you can still get to the
12:49bottom.
12:49So we're running 1.6 here, which we'll comfortably get on the bottom because we're only fishing in
12:54about a metre's water. We could go a bit lighter, mate, but in that 1.6, especially in this wind,
12:59we want something a tiny bit heavier.
13:01And rain.
13:02I've brought the wind and rain.
13:03We're copying it all at the moment.
13:09Mate, we're outfishing me a bit here.
13:11Oh, well look, someone's swimming.
13:13Come on, come on, come on, we want you.
13:15Yeah, baby.
13:16Yeah, baby.
13:19Yes, baby.
13:22Oh, it's all been worth it, except for my poor cameraman.
13:25As you can probably see, there's a bit of water on the lens, but when you come with a good
13:30guy,
13:30we just come out at a good stage of the tide, and we've got a lovely flathead.
13:34So Bo's going to give me mid-fifties for this one, but that is a good quality flathead.
13:38Oh, this is a better one.
13:41Excuse me, I'm trying to tilt to the Creek to Coast family bar, mate.
13:45Over the top of me.
13:47Oh, he's got a nice big grunter. That'll do.
13:49Oh, he is a good grunter.
13:51He is, mate. Wow. Take that. Jeez, he took off at the start.
13:56Yeah.
13:56I mean, bycatch, obviously, when you're chasing flathead, this is one species you can get.
14:00Yeah, well, that's the great thing about chasing flathead, mate.
14:02You never know what you're going to pull up.
14:04Everything likes those three-inch plastics, so...
14:06Yeah.
14:06It's Drew, Trevally, Jacks, a bit of everything.
14:10You'll find everything you need to chase at Flathead and more at your local BCF, or on their website.
14:18Up next, footy season is here, and the Lions are ready to win again.
14:27Follow this ball all the way through.
14:32The turnover's massive. Rayner kicks the goal.
14:35AFL, it's a sport which is ingrained in every Aussie's DNA.
14:39It's where battles are fought, victories are won, and heroes are made.
14:44Here's Neil again. Off to Ashcroft. No way.
14:48The mighty Brisbane Lions are one of the most successful AFL clubs of the 21st century,
14:54now with five Premiership wins under their belt.
14:57Enjoy that, Zach Bader.
14:59Playing in last year's grand final was a dream come true for club favourite Cam Rayner.
15:05How do you describe to people, the average person on the street, the experience of grand final day?
15:09Yeah, it's crazy. I guess when you say that,
15:11they're playing in front of 100,000 people, it's pretty scary, and you run out there,
15:14you get the chills, and the crowd was unbelievable.
15:18So here come the Lions. Harris Andrews, Cam Rayner's going to have a big effect on this game.
15:22Joey Danaher in behind there.
15:24You can't hear your teammates, you can't hear yourself think, it's just chaos out there.
15:30But I guess, you know, we found a really good thing last year where we could control that and
15:35turn it into confidence and energy for us, and I guess that's what got us over the line.
15:38Cam that's got the speed, he'll kick his man.
15:41Over the line, and back-to-back Premierships.
15:45A team at the top of their game needs a training facility to match.
15:50Brighton Homes Arena is located here in Ipswich, so I'm sure you've got out and about and
15:54discovered the beautiful city.
15:56Yeah, it's awesome being out here for two years now, which is unbelievable.
15:58The facility out here is unreal. The lovely golf course across the road,
16:02which is where we spend most of our time and our day off.
16:04It is awesome as well. It's been great being out here, I love it.
16:07The layout of Brookwater Golf Course is all thanks to the great Greg Norman,
16:12and Cam knows his way around.
16:18If you want to talk about the presidential, that is your ride in the mayor's office right there.
16:22Look at that. Look at that.
16:24That is beautiful.
16:27So if you aim anywhere out here, drop in for a birdie.
16:29Okay.
16:32Oh, I didn't listen to you.
16:34That's all right. You give me the line, we'll finish it off here.
16:38Send it home.
16:39There it is.
16:40That's nice.
16:46That's nice.
16:47That is great.
16:48I don't think I got it.
16:49I don't think I got it.
16:50That's on it.
16:51Get up.
16:51Get up.
16:53Oh!
16:53Stop it.
16:55Stop it.
16:57Stop it.
16:57That is great.
17:00And if there was anything I learned from watching Happy Gilmore, it was just to tap it in.
17:06Tap, tap, tap-a-roo.
17:09Nailed it.
17:10Time to shift up a gear.
17:15Athletes first.
17:16Thank you, mate.
17:17Focus driver performance at Queensland Raceway is for professional drivers and wannabe Mark Webbers.
17:24All areas of elite human performance are put under the microscope here.
17:29This is like a beautiful line.
17:33But the real test is how well you do behind the wheel.
17:37In this car, we can expect to see speeds of around about 250 kilometres an hour.
17:41We want to be braking as late as we can, as hard as we can,
17:44and let's see who's fastest at the end of it.
17:47Shake it back, baby.
17:48We're going.
17:49We're going.
17:50Oh, dear.
17:52Oh, first corner.
17:53First corner.
17:54Get it back.
17:58Oh, no.
18:02Spinning around.
18:04Oh, that's a good corner.
18:06That's a good corner.
18:08He's got the hang of this.
18:10There's my skin, guys.
18:13Fit stop.
18:14Fit stop.
18:15Great work.
18:16That was a 1 minute 43.
18:1730 seconds off this.
18:19What do you reckon, Lee?
18:20I don't know.
18:21I don't know.
18:21You've got some good corners there.
18:22Let's give it a go.
18:23About 360, I reckon.
18:24Is the way to go.
18:27Okay, so build up to it nice and slowly.
18:29There we go.
18:31Local knowledge.
18:32And onto the brakes.
18:33Onto the brakes.
18:34Onto the brakes.
18:35Onto the brakes.
18:35Onto the brakes.
18:35Onto the brakes.
18:37That's really bad.
18:39Really.
18:39You've got to reverse to this.
18:41It's all gone.
18:42It's all gone.
18:44It's all gone.
18:47So this will make you feel very, very poorly.
18:52It's going so well.
18:54So we want to go low.
18:55I'm sweating.
18:56There you go.
18:57We're back on.
18:57Slowly.
18:58I'm not back on.
18:59What is happening?
19:01It's not even a competition anymore.
19:03It's more of a safety check.
19:04I'm sweating.
19:05I'm sweating.
19:06I'm sweating.
19:07I'm absolutely dripping.
19:09So that was good.
19:10So we've got a 4 minute 24.
19:12And we've got a 1 minute 43.
19:15Just a little.
19:16Just a little bit of improvement to be needed, I think.
19:18Yeah.
19:19We don't have to go wrong.
19:20I think the biggest issue was getting onto the power a bit too eagerly.
19:24Breaking a little bit too.
19:25I mean the list is as long as my arm.
19:27We've got a 10 minute 43.
19:30We've got a 10 minute 43.
19:33Cam's right foot will be put to better use in this year's AFL season as the Lions try to equal
19:39their record run of three consecutive premierships.
19:43Catch it all live and free on the screens of seven.
19:47And there are plenty of other awesome activities to do in the city of Ipswich.
19:52For a cardio kick, there's mountain biking at Spices Hiddenvale.
19:57And if you'd like to keep your heart rate up, then tackle a hike at Flinders Peak.
20:03Head to Discover Ipswich to find out more.
20:11Let's keep Lee away from the racetrack.
20:14Me, however, I can't stay away from the water.
20:17Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
20:18Come here.
20:20Oh, he's a nice flattered boy.
20:21Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
20:22This way, this way.
20:24In you go, buddy.
20:25Yes.
20:25Nice job, mate.
20:27Well done.
20:28And on that note, I'm going to say goodbye to Creek Coast for today.
20:31That rain has continued the whole time.
20:34Hasn't, mate?
20:34But it hasn't dampened our spirits.
20:35We've got a couple of really nice flathead.
20:37Hopefully you have enjoyed the show and hopefully you've picked up a couple of tips for yourself
20:40so you can head out and do exactly what Bo and I have done.
20:43Be sure to follow us Facebook and Instagram at Seven Plus.
20:45It's where you can catch up on any episode you may have missed.

20:50Bob State.
20:50Beautiful.
20:51Next week, bucket list species in one of the country's most remote fishing locations.
20:56The cameraman.
20:57And he goes.
20:58What I do is I come back, go onto the cab.
21:01That's Creek to Coast, 5.30 next Saturday, right here on Seven.

21:28Onto the brakes, onto the brakes, onto the brakes.
21:31Oh, that's really bad.
21:33It's not even a competition anymore, it's more of a sighting check.
